What you expect from your group members as tank ?

I saw some "what you expect from" threads lately . This is a thread tanks sharing what they want from their group . Also a thread for sharing opinions between tanks about this topic .

Don't drop ultimates until tank makes boss stand still . Tank will kick you from group if you pull before he does or if you die because you stand in front of boss . Tank doesn't care about your DPS race between each other . Tank wants you to survive . Listen to tank . TANK SEES ALL THE MISTAKES YOU DO . Don't *** tank off .

I've tanked on my main char since I joined the game, 90% of the time with PuGs from zone chat and grouping tool. So I have a lot of experience about healer and DDs should, and most importantly, shouldn't do.
    - don't die to avoidable, predictable mechanics (running into each other and overlapping red circles at Ash Titan in vet City of Ash); staying on the red and not blocking boss attacks that don't take aggro into account (ex. Vorenor Winterbourne in vet Spindleclutch)
    - don't face tank that boss, don't stand in it's cone/circle attack - you don't have the HP, armor and blocking passive to survive it and it's my job anyway
    - don't use pets beacause kite trash and/or block off the boss. I've been hit by heavy attack from bosses a number of times because the DDs were sorcs and had 1-2 pets summoned or they were using Maw the Infernal set, and the Daedroth/Twilight stood in front of the boss and couldn't see him charging.
    - don't kite the trash at the end of the dungeon, far from tank and healer that's what kills you.
    - don't drop ults on trash right before the boss, especially if I didn't have to group, root and debuff it; it's a waste
    - specific Templar healers - use repentance on dead trash, it's free. Also throw shards from time to time. Don't abuse BoL, it wastes magicka - better use some HoT and healing wards from restoration staff.
    - do some decent DPS. There's no excuse for those 5 minutes long fights and wipes at the Pelingares and their bats if you have CP 300+; I can and I did execute most bosses in dungeons because the others wiped and I couldn't res with full aggro but that's not my job and takes a lot of time.
    - pay some attention about buffs and debuffs the others in the group run, especially the tank. It frees up your slots and allow for more DPS/Heal skills (ex. molten armaments lasts for almost 40s).
    - pay attention to those ults especially the Warhorn - I always run it on my tank - when it sounds, nuke and don't sound your own.
    - don't ever use flare or its morphs in Planar Inhibitor fight - it looks a lot like the portals when the screen turns grey; don't use Engine Guardian in Lord Warden fight - it gets sucked in portal and one of the group dies when he blows up.

This is something i have never understood. I know as dps we get jumpy at times. But if you give a decent tank a couple of second to pull crap together they can cut the length of a ton of fights in half if not more.

Well, my char has 64 points stamina. If I see the DDs are not burning everything fast enough (I expect 10-20 minutes run times on most) and the dungeon is really easy (normal or vet non DLC dungeon) I just push that button (i have alpha gear addon), swap to medium 5xHunding's Rage+3xAgility+3xNight Mother's with 2H (sharpened maul) on back bar, taunt, talon, cleave, FDB. With 38.5K stamina (thanks Zeni for buffing the Nords), 4K WD and 85 points in mighty the trash just melts like butter :)

Actually Velidreth is one of the few bosses that needs a full time, experienced tank. I find it extremely annoying and I have been one-shotted a number of times despite being warded, shielded, standing on circle of protection and blocking. The only way to survive there is to constantly roll from statue AoE, and pop magma shell as soon as ultimate is full (if it doesn't eat it). I've found it very hard to find groups that can do the bosses in the new dungeons on hard mode - i did them both with an experienced group in the first couple of days after the DLC release but I couldn't find others since and had to settle for one gold key :(

Just to know your role and behave accordingly.

    no stupid bravery
    no standing on red areas
    be in a movement
    be ready to block
    be ready to rolldodge
    no spamming light attacks (bow)
learn how to manage your resources
    invest into proper gears (set)
mind that it's the tank who starts the fight, not you
unlock early and use aoe abilities
    stay away from boss
    prefer range healing
don't place your storm atronach directly on the boss or tank - he hardly see when to block.

What a tank should expect of others:
    1. Doing DPS
    2. Keeping the tank alive
    3. Avoiding red and knowing mechanics
    4. Clearing out adds
    5. Good positioning

    What I expect of tanks:
    1. Keep aggro. It's not cool if anyone dies from boss changing targets (unless he breaks taunt)
    2. Know mechanics very well. As the tank, you're up and close to the boss, so you need to have everything down.
    3. Don't die to stupid stuff.
    4. Coordinate with healer for buffs for the DPS (IE: Warhorn)
    5. Contribute DPS if possible.

If I'm tanking (or healing or as one of the 8 dps) I expect all my other dps to stand frelling still unless they absolutely MUST move (for reds, for priority targeting). Way too many players feel the need to dance during trials and harder dungeons causing mechanics or adds to gravitate towards them or the people they went near.

One more thing from me - if some player dies, and tank taunt the boss away from this place, don't run after tank blindly but instead try to revive that player. Work as a team, so take care about others, especially fallen. Soulgem costs only 30g :p.

*Exception - you see a noob dying every time you revive him - after the 3-rd try leave him, waste of time and soulgems ;).
Sometimes you realize the fallen noob just went to the kitchen to make a cup of tea after he died first time, so he is instantly killed after you revive him no matter of times :D .

This thread started to fill with info for healers and DDs . Each role needs to see their performance from another angle . Thanks for your constructive posts !

Here is another one . When something bad happens , like half the group is dead , immediately stop DPS , calm down and start ressing your teammates . Also , learn to stay still . Sometimes , there will be mechanics that you will have some AOE spawning under your feet . If you move all the time , you will make the AOE hit your teammates which is not good . (ex. first boss in mol and mage in AA)

Well, the thread title is "What you expect from your group members as tank ?". I understood that I'm the tank and I have to say what I expect the other members in my group to do. If it were about the role of the tank I would have asked something like "What do you expect from the tank in your group ?". For this question the answer is:

    - get and keep aggro on bosses and the more dangerous mobs from trash group
    - point boss and more dangerous mobs away from the other group members, interrupt or at least block his attacks when they are not interruptible
    - don't die doing it, by stacking resistance from both gear and skills major/minor resolve/ward (spiked armor, immovable, rune focus), block mitigation (defensive stance) minor/major protection (cricle of protection, restoring focus), shields (blazing/ingenous/bone) and avoiding/blocking attacks and other mechanics
    - pull together and CC mobs that are susceptible to such effects for the DDs to AoE - some can't be CCd and pulled with chains but the damage debuff from choking talons morph still applies; bosses and mobs that can't be chained still get a short duration aggro if they are hit.
    - if they can't be completely rooted because tank is neither DK nor sorc it's still helpful to slow them down with caltrops
    - apply damage debuff minor maim (ex. heroic slash) and resistance debuff major/minor fracture/breach (ex. pierce armor, noxious breath), poison/glyphs that reduce resistance on weapon
    - self sustain to a degree all 4 resource pools (ultimate is a resource pool too, especially important for DK) trough gear, passives and CPs that help regeneration (ex. Atronach or Serpent mundus stones, CPs invested in Tower and Lover, Seducer/Tava's/Willows crafted sets, endurance/amberplasm/Bloodspawn/Malubeth dropped sets etc.)
    - buff group damage (ingenous weapons, aggressive warhorn) and protection (ingenous shield, magma shell, barrier, bone shield)
    - keep DoTs on mobs and bosses for more reliable aggro and some DPS
    - be able to switch to full DD for some fights where a normal tank is useless or even a drag (Planar Inhibitor, Engine Guardian) or have a DD bar for most trash fights
    - resurrect fallen group members - I'm not sure about this, but in PuGs I end up doing 60%+ resurrects

Know the flippin mechanics. I can't do everything as a tank. No, I cannot help you with the storm atro on Molag kena. You have to burst him down. I cannot help you stay out of red. I cannot help you get to 17k health so you don't die to one shots (I refuse to run ebon and gimp my build because you don't know how to build a proper DPS). I cannot help if you don't follow my instructions (BLOCK on vet crypt of hearts boss means BLOCK!).
