Lets Make Our Own Battlegrounds

I, like many people, am anxiously awaiting battlegrounds. There is a distinct lack of true, structured, competition where there are defined winners and losers. When that is introduced, this game will truly go to the next level. Until that time comes, we have two options. We can continue doing what we've been doing for 2+ years, or we can make an attempt as a community to facilitate the instanced contests that many of us are anxiously awaiting.

So what I'd like to explore today, is the possibility of setting up such competitions using the toys we already have to work with. What I had in mind was pretty simple, but would require the support and cooperation of the community. Basically, lets set up battles for a town. 6v6 first team to flip all three flags wins. Town starts off owned by the faction thats observing the match. 100k buy in per team with a standard single elimination bracket. Winner take all.

Obviously there would be more rules and concerns that need to be worked out. But we are a resourceful and thoughtful bunch working with a sandbox, and I really do think theres a lot of untapped potential for the fun we can have together with proper organization. So thoughts? With enough support for this, I'm sure we can get some guilds involved to sponsor the event in no time.

I think you have a good idea and I'm sure it would be fun. The only concern would be using the captuarable towns. Because of the ability to blood port to them when a faction owns a town is an advantage, it would be hard to convince people that one is off limits for a period of time. You would get arguments over why one town was selected over another and how that is an advantage for the opposing factions.

Thats a good point. Can you blood port if the town is flagged? If not then we can start matches with flagged towns. But ya, something like this would be contingent on ambassadors from every faction being able to inform and get compliance from uninvolved parties.

It's a fun idea, but it seems like IC would offer better options for war games. Those Cyro towns are too much of a horse ride and more prone to interference from random players.

IC offers flag flipping games, arena battle royal, 4v4v4vMolag Bal, etc.

Either way it sounds like a good time.

Yeah, if you try this on TF during primetime you're just going to get run over.

No you can't if it is flagged, so that would be a fair way to do it. Just have all three towns flagged.

The Arena district usually simulates what you're looking to do. Red and Blue bases are like 30 feet apart and often resemble "Call of Duty: Tamriel". Yellow requires a 30 second jog through duelers though.

You don't have the technology or steady hands to pull off a procedure like that!

Trolled by a guildmate lol. Only issue might be the 100k buy-in, that's more gold than most PVPers have.

I've seen this talked about before. Before, ideas more or less devolved into GvGs in various locations to make use of interesting terrain due to lack of in game infrastructure. Now that we have towns with flags, we have some more to use. No reason not to.

Except maybe others don't want to deal with GvG truces in PvP towns?

GvGs and player-made battlegrounds occur in secluded places. If you end up there, either you came looking for the event, or it's a highly unlikely coincidence, in which case you're the only hostile present. Feel free to attack.

No one would host an organized event where there might be hostile traffic.

I'll add that the simple fact that there are areas anywhere on the map where there is next to zero PvP traffic indicates a massive design flaw on ZOS' part.

But there's always the possibility of hostile traffic in a PvP town. That's what they were designed for.

If the intent of your battleground is to avoid places were there might be the possibility of hostile traffic, why do it in a PvP town?

By all means do it in a place with no traffic, but that's not in a town, which is where this thread wants to put them.
