Easeof gameplay, in 1vX having heals across bars makes defence very awkward
I find having a shield/heal on each bar to be convenient when 1vXing on my max magicka setup. Weaving Dampens between attacks keeps both offense and defense up simultaneously, which mageblade excels at. Play style difference perhaps. If your Dampens are not large enough to stave off burst alone, though, having it with Healing Ward would be best. I'm very curious to see how this setup plays out compared to a comparable destro resto setup.
Chori sums it up perfectly
So you play as a resto main bar and only use dw to fire assassin's wills? I still don't see how that is more efficient than a destro resto setup, but hey, you do you. I look forward to the videos.
You can't run 5 necrop, 5 alchemist and 3 willpower unless you have duel wield. He would loose 189 spell power from willpower if he went destro on top of the loss from not have duel swords.
He would gain destro weaves. It's a lot of additional sustained damage and comparable burst if you land a heavy, and the burst is still good without the heavy attack. I've hit 25k+ assassin's wills with a destro setup, and Necropotence would increase that further.
It isn't possible to hit 25k assassin's will on a player with destro currently in this patch, only dw has enough spell damage/magicka currently
My max magicka build has slightly over 61k max magicka on its destro bar, and another of my builds has about 44k max magicka and 4450 spell damage, which would rise if I subbed in alchemist. A dedicated damage build can definitely hit over 25k assassin's wills on improperly geared opponents, like those featured in 1vX videos. Careful with your assumptions.
Can you make a vid on how to get over 61k max magicka on a NB?
I prefer not to publicize refined builds, but here are my open world stats. All buffs are visible -- no warhorn or green food or other gimmicks are used. I'd be glad to help you improve your mageblade via pms though.
I use Siphon Attacks, a Maelstrom resto, and the occasional heavy attack for sustain. I've always run with next to no regen, so it's comfortable. I use dots and high burst for damage, and over 16.6k Dampen shields for defense in place of impen and hots. Utility and buff spells are on the back bar.
To give you a benchmark to compare its damage output to a spell damage setup, here is my Swallow Soul tooltip. I can push it over 12k with a less practical bar setup, but I don't like doing that open world.
Apologies for the screenshots in your thread @Blobsky. I do anticipate your play style videos. I've never seen nor thought to use a dw buff bar for burst executes before.

Done that for duels in TG patch combined with deto, its good and quite fun to play but not efficient very long agaisnt top opponents. Basically you usually cant insta kill sb stam dk, magicka templars, magicka dks (wings) and good stam builds will learn to dodge/block AW really quickly. However prolly the easiest way to kill most magicka sorcs in TG patch (when they had 20 secs shield) Overall I've felt destro was better in duel agaisnt the listed opponents thanks to WoE and medium attacks. Openworld I've never felt confortable with ranged builds, but I know blobs is expert at ranged mnb so I have no doubt it will work well in 1vX fir him.

The build has under 1k Magicka Recovery... As a person who ran siphoning attacks since 1.0 (It was a toggle until 1.5) I am probably the most viable to say, it won't sustain when you have to play defensive too much. It also has 600 stam regen with 10k stamina - if you are vs a class dodging your skills to sustain stamina with siphoning attacks, 2 cc breaks is game over.
In my opinion I prefer my current build by a significant mile, my merciless hits the same, and merciless is the killer, whilst I have another 800 magicka regen. I'll be making a destro build in future, but am certain I will keep DW as mainbuild... atm I am just waiting on a DSA loot
PS: The sets are 5x Necropotence, 1x Master staff, 3 ancient grace, mage mundus, 2x Magnus or Kagrenac (I was considering the same but decided having sustain is more important in a real situation)
The only real 'damage' that matters is the burst, and this build offers near-identical burst with twice the sustain I'd be glad to help you improve your mageblade via pms though.

Could you advise me on a siphon magicka nightblade build? Like based around absorbing health and blood fountain
