Don't get me wrong, I am old and will freely admit I thought the LOL button was there to tell folks you thought their posts were funny, so you can imagine how I felt when I found out all those people who posted funny things thought I was disagreeing with them... or trolling them... yes, I also thought trolling was a way of fishing...
Personally I really much care for folks that insult you under their breath as they walk away, I want to hear the insult so I can laugh at it too. Posting a reply to a discussion thread, even one you disagree with vehemently, is the equivalent of standing up and telling folks their ideas are good, bad or down right ugly... to just hit the disagree button and move on without a reply is the same as that worthless putz that mumbles something about your momma as he slinks off to what ever hole he crawled out of...
To put it another way, I tend to agree with your idea, but you are saying it in such a way as to weaken the idea...
As anything can be abused, using abuse to allow or disallow an option is not a well reasoned argument, nor are feelings for that matter... For a discussion to be worthwhile, people need to discuss and support their ideas, others need to voice their supporting or dissenting opinions. Hashing the points back and forth, pros and cons, will bring consensus, acceptance or at least the understanding of a differing opinion.
A disagree button (or for that matter an agree button) adds nothing to the discussion while the insightful, awesome and perhaps a few others can be helpful in giving credit for comments that make good and salient points... antonyms of those words seem to have a rather negative connotation...

I still have a lot of classes about political theory indeed. But I'm already in my masters and my main field of study is quality of democracy and social movements in latin america, I like it because its very nice mix of political theory and empirical analysis. But deep in my heart I'm still in love with history of political theory

Yes, that is true. However, we use a forum that REQUIRES us be CONSTRUCTIVE. Therefore, if we simply say "we disagree" and do not say "why" we are not being constructive. One could say the same about agreeing, thus turning this into a vicious cycle, but as I said what you agree with is already mentioned and does not need re-mentioning whereas if you DISagree it does no good to say so unless you say why. This is why an Agree button is fine but a Disagree button is not.
