So if for some reason, this not 100% surething system fails, you might end up broadcasting to the whole zone that a honest player is cheating?Potential solution to memory hacking:
Create a java program that you would run alongside eso.exe similar to ohgma infinium that checks for known memory hacks. When you zone into pvp, check for hacks and then broadcast to zone if memory is altered by a third party hook.
It's not foolproof, but it would keep the honest thieves honest.
Would you all use something like this? Would you run something that proved you were not using a cheat engine?
Do you like pina coladas? and getting caught in the rain?
no its a recursive check that needs to be 100% positive.
and its more for saying I am not cheating than to catch a cheater.
Basically its a crowdfunded policing software that simply checks known variables for cheaters and broadcasts that they are known to NOT be cheating

That word you are using; I do not think it means what you think it does.

- The 3rd party app can be easily duped. The app has to compare memory values against a list of know good memory values. The attack angle would be simple, change what the 3rd party app believes to be "known to be good".
- A lot of the hacks change number in memory offsets that change on a regular basis anyways. So simply looking for a change won't work.
- Java is probably the worst possible language to use, you can use an off the shelf java decompiler to get the source code back, making it stupidly easy to hack.
This is a circular argument. You're simply moving the client side validation from one app to another. Adding one more step does nothing to make this more secure.
The *only* way to get rid of the client side cheating is to eliminate all and any client side trust.
But I'm not just trusting the client, this will check for processes running and then check for an expected response verified by the server.
I am not trying to stop the cheating from being possible here, just giving the community the ability to at least potentially identify those who are.
Which also happens to be against the ToS for the game.
Just saying.
Naming and shaming on properties they control is against their terms of service. They can't stop me from creating my own list of players that are known cheaters and broadcasting that to the planet, as long as I'm not infringing on their IP.
Great.

The argument against your idea is not so much that it's impossible. You are venturing into a very sophisticated and fast-moving area of technology. Writing a tamper-proof piece of software that you plan on handing to you adversaries and letting them run on their own hardware is one of the most difficult tasks in software engineering. Apple has billions of dollars in motivation and world class engineers and they can't even shut down the iPhone jailbreaks.
Alas, I have to try. Fail or not, I'm going to *** do SOMETHING.
As far as I can tell, it's more than what ZOS is doing.
Doesn't matter.@uriel_nocturne you are very correct sir, that slander and libel are very real and that is why this system is a video upload/sharing system that allows for voting and discussion of a person thought to cheat, none of which is allowed here.
It's not a witch hunt where you can simply accuse someone of cheating and then thats that they are a cheater.
Are you opposed to the concept of a self policed community until the cheating can be fixed?
I mean I am not trying to present this as a solution to the overall problem, I hope you see that. I am simply trying to keep honest thieves honest by putting their b.s. on blast.

Keeping honest people honest doesn't change anything either. Any real fix can only come from Zos.

A Slander or Libel suit could easily destroy you, the people who post this stuff on your site, and any other associated sites.
Besides, the supposed "cheaters" have an easy defense:
How exactly do you intend to prove that the person was actually sitting behind their computer? All tehy have to say is that their account was hacked that day, and they successfully sue you because you can't prove beyond doubt that it was them behind that computer screen.
Think on that.

Well they could sue me, but the language of the service dictates that I am not accusing anyone of cheating, simply providing a service for people to discuss, see ripoffreport.com

Just a note: getting a libel or slander lawsuit to stick in the US is incredibly difficult. You must not only show that the defendant circulated false information about you, but that they knew the information was false and shared it with malicious intent to damage your reputation. Getting a judgement against someone hosting a site that links to videos from an MMO would be next to impossible unless @yodased started doxxing players and making wild accusations about their RL actions.

Look I get it, you either don't like me or my idea, but the idea that someone is going to even take a lawsuit on that says someone else accused me of cheating in a video game on a website is absurd.

The very name of the site implies that the people listed are cheaters.

Right, because someone smart enough to alter the game client in-memory probably couldn't do the same to a 3rd party app.

Nice trolling.....
Google Cheat Engine ESO and you can easily find posts and the software being available 2 years ago. Z0$ incompetence banned what 50 people?, just to un-ban some (That i know of). How do these numbers make any sense to anyone?. Before it was brought to light by endless meteors in Cyro, by a player, not by ESO staff, how many peoples gaming experiences were ruined?
Plenty of people were running CE and some still are. You think banning 50 people and letting them back, was in anyway a deterrent for cheating?. The kids working in ESO making these choices are making them with greed in the forefront of there mind, no doubt.
Also blatantly leaving racial passive exploit in game, from being documented and reported on the PTS coupled with a crown sale is shameful.
@yodased - Fair play for doing something man, i have no doubt the amount of work you have already put in for anti-cheating is more than Z0$ ever will.
EDIT: I checked out the website, i like this idea a lot. Since Z0$ is suspending players and closing topics through shameful tactics on these forums in the hope of damage limitation through censorship, more and more players i know are using 3rd party sites where the information is much more accurate and truthful.
Video content of exploiting and cheating is there for all too see, rather than spending the time to fill out a ticket, send all information away, never to be heard of again. Someone posts a video of cheating, i think 100 people should send in a ticket and spam Z0$ in the hopes they take cheating seriously one day.
I fully believe it should be name and shame policy for breaking the TOS, why spend energy in protecting a players username identity when they blatantly circumvent the rules that are they to give a fair playing field. If you get caught for a crime, your name is in the local newspaper, society does this for many reasons and i think the game should emulate this.
