The most awesome PvP weapon in the game…

Okay, so yeah imagine playing this game in somewhat of a vacuum for the first 10 months or so and it’s easy to see how different folks might come up with different solutions on gameplay right? (yes, I’m hedging a bit on my comments)…

My weapon of choice (primarily for PvP) is the good old lightening staff…what a marvel it is...
1. It reaches out for like forever – so you’re running someone down and there’s a few folks ahead of you getting ready to send an enemy player somewhere else on the map, no worries, real easy to reach out and touch someone from a long way away
2. It doesn’t care about your silly dodge roll move – once it hits it sticks
3. Enchant it with a nice dose of disease or poison and it’s the gift that keeps on giving
4. It stays attached through rocks and trees – go ahead and try to hide
5. It’s fast – so, your inside defending a tower along with about 10 other people (whom you’re not grouped with) waiting for folks to come in the door, no worries about getting in on the kill – cuz your handy dandy lightening staff gets to folks real quick like
6. Cut down your heavy attack time and you can thump folks with a little lick of lightning over and over again. What a joy to stand on top a keep or outpost and zap someone below who thinks that silly lightening stuff won’t do nothing…oooops you’re dead

Alright, stat folks – I understand there’s probably a million different reasons why some other weapon is more effective (someone mentioned “scalable instances” in a recent discussion and my head started spinning – seriously wtf - is that even real :s )…

I hate math…nothing made me happier in school then when I took my last math class in my junior year (as luck would have it – fast forward to the next year and I found myself in another academic environment where math was essential, for you old field artillery folks – that’s charts and darts baby, charts and darts all day long :'( )

So tell me – how is the lightening staff not the most awesome weapon in tamriel (at least cyrodiil and IC)…except for those stupid good vma weapons – which I may never see in my own inventory (rotten bind on pickup rule)...

Lightning Staff, IMO, is underrated. Sorcerers get a percentage damage bonus with it, and in PVE, several dungeon bosses have 0 shock resistance, while they take reduced damage from fire or frost.

Often times though, it isn't used because it's nearly impossible to medium weave with a lightning staff, and flame staff has really good passives. Lightning staff simply gets outclassed.

Healing Staff does this, plus gives health and magicka, as well as healing me while blocking, with a bonus to the effectiveness of my nightblade healing skills. And it is real fast to finish the heavy attacks, eliminating the need of a light attack.

Still, the lightning staff synergizes well with a sorcerer!

I just love this, someone who plays what they like and enjoy and not what everyone else says is better.

Kudos brother I'm not much of magic player but if like the trusty tree branch of lightening in your hand lightening it up.

I play DW because I like it even though 2H is the stam pvp meta for like the last year plus, I get rekt but I like the weapon set.

Howdy @acw37162 ...to be honest - when I'm reading other folks posts here and they're getting in to some of the minutia of weapon and ability mechanics, I'm kinda jealous and envious - I just understand I'm not there yet...

It took me a while to figure it out, but, my real big goal in the game now is to figure out how to 1vX with some of my characters...definitely not there yet...

I use the lightening staff with my templars, DK and mage...I use a bow for the NB's ranged attack...

and yeah, after a long day of work - it does bring me some joy to zap folks >:)

just finally started learning some of the proc effect mechanics with DW...it just looks bad ass (a la Sparticus) to have two weapons in your hand...

Yeah, lightning staff is the bees knees for a heavy attack build right now because you can fry those monkey rollers.

I want to try a lightning heavy attack build with Altmer passives + Sorcerer passives + Bound Armaments + CP into staves + Elegant set + ??.

I'm thinking you could reap a mighty AP harvest if you smack them with Curse > Endless Fury > Shock Clench > heavy attack. I'm pretty sure that's 3/4 undodgeable.

@Solariken ...thanks man, I needed that...I know folks at work must be looking in the office thinking I lost my mind cuz I'm laughing like crazy...

I can't wait now to get home so I can go fry some of them monkey rollers...

I honestly don't know how I'd play my sorcerer without a lightning staff. Lightning Heavies + Curse is how I counter wing spamming DKs. Plus the sorc shock passive, and it looks pretty badass

I love lightning staves too, I just don't equip them for normal situations very often because they are super clunky for weaving between skills and they often bug out and force my character into a full heavy attack when I only tapped a light attack, which usually results in my death.

@geonsocal Sorry, not sorry. A few paperwork typos will be a small price to pay for the joy you will feel if you try a build like I wrote above. It'll be like shooting fish in a barrel. :P

Edit: now I'm laughing too, thinking of those monkeytards flopping around violently while you you're shoving sparks up their ***.

Of course not, it's lightning. (At least one thing the designer was thinking about)

It's also worth mentioning that mDKs get the most punch from Lightning staves thanks to Igneous Weapons, since you get the 40% damage boost on EVERY tick. Fully buffed, I've hit every enemy in PVP for 5k per ticks. Best weapon hands down for Magicka builds in large-scale battles. Inferno wins out for 1vX and boss fights, though.

@Solariken ...hope your gaming day is going well...sorry for the noobish question, but, when you mentioned "weaving your attacks" - is that a reference to animation cancelling?

now that I've started paying a little more attention to what's really happening while I'm playing - I noticed that a couple times while dying, I never noticed my health meter decrease or saw more than two moves executed against me, but, when I checked my death recap sure enough there were six or so attacks that took place in a really short period of time...

I thought animation canceling was mostly a pc thing...

I'm on ps4, not sure if it's that or "lag"...finally noticed the effect of lag on my stamina recovery...

I was just referring to adding a fast light attack between skill casts (which does involve minor animation cancelling).

You can animation cancel almost as well on console as on PC. Lag can easily be a factor also.

I remember my overlord build in oblivion, with sanguine rose, the staff of worms and a bow with control humanoid. Funny runs through the Deadlands
