Elitism in PvP?

This isn't elitism. With any serious PvP guild when running a raid - you always follow the crown and you do what the crown tells you to do. It is as simple as that. You do not go off on your own - you "STAY WITH THE CROWN".

You said it yourself - your new to PvP here - let me tell you rule No. 1 in a group - "STAY WITH THE CROWN"

It has always been this way, nothing new or elitist here and if they mailed you about it - you did something wrong.

Edit Added: And just a note: if they mailed you about it - they were being nice! They could have called you out in TS or chat in front of everyone.

In PVP I knew I was improving when I started to get "Hate" whispers!!

PVP chat is some of the most umm..... errr........ how should I phrase this?

"Unusual" will do, I have ever experienced and that's from people on the SAME side!! :o
    When people say to me........
"You're going to regret that in the morning"
I sleep until midday cos I'm a problem solver!

I really enjoy being part of a group with good leadership. There have been a few times you could tell the Crown just wanted to start a group, not necessarily lead it, which is pointless IMO xD Other times I've been in massively awesome groups with a leader who not only has a plan but waits for his team and looks out for them. Those are my favourite :3

No, this isn't elitism. This is a basic fundamental in most groups. Even with groups in which players do not 'stack' on crown per se, you are expected to be within proximity of heals and contribute damage to the same targets. In most groups, members are expected to be where the leader is and following his/her instructions.

The purpose of grouping is to organize and work as one unit. If you are not where the leaders expect you to be, you become a burden.

Furthermore, you are not doing your guild or group a favor or being nice by showing up. That is part of what you agree to do when you join a guild. Every guild has expectations about when and how often players should play. You should talk to the leaders in your guild to better understand what is expected from members.

Also take into consideration his message may have been short and to the point because he was still in pvp and in an unsafe location when he sent it.

Top players play solo (except healers ofc) or have the crown.
As others said here, zerging is not skill-intensive but sadly is highly rewarded by ZOS PVP team.

Solo will get you obliterated if unskilled.

@danielpatrickkeaneub17_ESO there is more to it though, OP here feels he is new in the guild, and joined the raid to help out. The CALL TO ARMS message he got may have been a regular weekly or daily guild mail, and the officers or raidleader was not aware that OP was new to their playstyle..

Not all guilds give introductions, and people who recruit for guilds don't give introductions either.

@failkiwib16_ESO, you're right for certain points. Again, this is just a game, and there is really no way to build a solid teamwork unless you log on to PvP with that same group and guild as often as you can, so as to know how they work and operate. Yes, being a newbie to this PvP guild and actually going in there (the first time) during an active event/siege attack, is surely not the best time for an officer or another member to tutor on how they work and operate. Ha ha.

I am quite versed in working as team and am a team player, however. Yes, when your keep is actively being attacked by a massive group, you would need all hands to defend and repel. I actually only left to join in the chase after we decimated the enemy pact groups and siege weapons. I also recalled someone (probably an officer of the guild or group) directing for some to go check on the nearby lumberyard and outpost. I'm sure the call-out to come to crown's aid was when some crazy enemy pact stragglers decided to return to re-engage on the keep and during when we were engaging the enemy to take back the lumberyard and outpost.

Also looking at the map, there were handful of group member icons in and around crown. I don't know.. I'm pretty sure it could be a certain individual who may not be so much up to speed on people skills. Even in real life, any leader, officer or those in a leadership position must have good people skills as well as knowing how to effectively communication. Without these, even an well-oiled group can fall apart quite rapidly. I'm surely not going to lose or have lost any sleep over it.

I tried out a pvp guild that was pretty much the exact way you describe OP. It was cool and all and I hope I did a decent job following orders but I like solo or a two man/girl? group with my boyfriend. It's a lot more fun and relaxed and we usually get the job done without a zerg.

In a zerg I feel like I'm not doing a damn thing and I'm just a brainless zombie following the horde. No fun there for me.

its not eliteism, its group play, any serious group uses some form of talk communication and you are expected to play with the group and not run around soloing while in a group. its reasonable to say when your in group, stay on crown and be a group, if your not in the mood then dont join the group just solo around helping where you think its needed.

Can we just PLEASEstop using the words "Elitism" or "Elitist" to somehow magically explain everything that happens to us when interacting with rude people somewhere. Elitist or Elitism is just so very limited in its power to explain that which is happening.

    Thank You in advance.

    kind regards

ps. And in my view there is no reason here for this episode to get you down at all. Just hang on to your belifs and brush experiences like this off, laugh and move on. Do you Think people will think about what happend the day after? Nobody will remember anything.

You can however be sure that things will get said when things are heated in MMO's due to various reasons one of them being addiction and lack of sleep just to name two. And I would estimate that atleast around 5-10% of the people playing have some kind of developmental disturbance, which also effects them emotionally, like we find in the rest of the population. Some of those are psychopaths. So dont you Worry :)

I think the reason many people view the rudeness they encounter in this game as elitism is because the game reinforces gang beating mentality and hierarchical social groupings, often represented by a smaller group of figureheads who herd sheep players. A lot of those players view the pvp environment as strictly AvA and because the game gives AvA all the power, other play styles are treated as lesser and players who subscribe to them are targeted or treated in an ostracizing manner. I mean, Ive seen regular instances of group bullying occur against players by larger groups, nevermind the *** who run around in IC going 10v1 on players, as if IC is a place where you need to actually do that (which, as a separate note, come on people, you want to AvA go to cyrodiil, theres no excuse for ruining real pvp because you want to go into the elven gardens to have a circle jerk)

    Honestly every guild is different.

In ours, youre expected to follow a certain standard of play, which involves following instructions. We dont exactly stack on crown anymore, thats a bad idea due to many factors, but to be near the lead is considered required.

    Force multiplication and the like.

But unlike some guilds we explain this right out the door. After 14 days you either make the cut or you dont, most dont. Is it elitist? Yes, but its because we want LIKE MINDED folks in our ranks. We have under 90 members, over 400 have applied or been a tryout since we started back in January.

So 25 percent retention rate to our playstyle (excluding people who have full on quit the game i guess), because what we do is normally outnumbered organized away from the front lines fighting. Self sufficiency and adaptability are vital traits.

Elitism isnt the word id use, selective is.

There are always people who think being crown or guild leader/officer gives them the authority to tell others how to build their toons. Often the loudest person in the guild/group has no authority to tell anybody anything. There are good PvP guilds that help others without telling them its 'their way or the highway". Your best bet to find them is to join different 'pugs' in PvP and shop around.

In our guild all we care about it is that whatever build youre running fits your role, and youre not doing something extremely bad (like using a resto staff of agility, etc)

Some guilds go a step further and apply approved builds or guild-only builds. Me and mine? Ill check your stuff, but most things work out. A tweak here and there to be sure for most people (it astounds me sometimes how few people actually know how character builds really synergize, but i digress)

When I am crown it is my way or the highway though, and when someone else is crown i follow.

Builds though, as long as you heal well as a healer, do damage as a damage dealer, or whatever you tell me you are (have purge, rapids, caltrops whatever) usually cant be bothered complaining about equipment, unless like I said its a grievous problem like complete mismatch or using non-set green drops or something.

To be fair, some group leaders are *** who expect every single member of their group to be right behind them at all times, despite either making completely random movements that the group can't possibly keep up with, or running off while flat-out ignoring the fact that group members are still clearly in combat. I remember being a group once where the leader was yelling at people for being literally 20-30 feet away from him; the guy was insane.

However, whoever sent that messaged could have just been pissed off and stressed out and came across harder than intended.

Again, this is a game.. and members of the guilds and groups within ESO are made up of people and players of all different types and background. Similar to this forum, you have those that appear to be quite professional in their messages and wordages, whereas you also have total juvenile conducts or mannerism. We can't expect the guilds or groups in this game to operate or work exactly like any real-world businesses or even a well-oiled military unit. We also can't expect players who are in officer roles in their respective guilds to be as professional or have effective leadership and communication know-how as a non-commissioned or commissioned officers in real-world military units.

However, with the right people in the officer and leadership roles, I believe you can develop a guild or group into an effective fighting force in PvP; using similar tactics and doctrine or policy from a real-world military unit. With that said, @Rylana, I agree with you that everybody in the group stacking on crown is not the best tactic, unless that group of 20 are designated as crown's protective detachment, and there are other groups/teams designated with their own function; like an assault group and support group. Again yes, you wouldn't need 20 players by crown's side at all times.

Also, if your guild has been in operation for some time, those officers and other veteran members should be able to recognize any new member or members of the group. Such in my case, I joined this guild (Don't take me in the wrong way. I am not slamming this guild or leadership as a whole; more of suggestion for improvement to this guild or others) just a day ago and came to their aid the very first time. I didn't ping any of them for an invite into the group; rather, I was pinged to be included in the group. So, as an officer in that group or any senior member (particularly crown), you should recognize that someone coming into your group is new. Therefore, in a heat of battle or not, you should still be able to quickly and easy say.. "Hey you (name such) say with crown side, unless otherwise directed," or "We need you at (such and such) wall, and defend there until further direction (or guidance)," or "Go link up with (such and such named player).

Actual commo during that siege attempts were more as, "We need people to go the north wall. We people at the south wall. We need people to take out the siege machines. We need people to go check on the lumberyard and some to go to the outpost", etc.. Technically, for more effective communication and management, it should be more of (even if there are not actual teams designated).. "Hey (names such and such), I need you guys at the (such and such side) wall. You guys (names such and such), aid in attacking those siege machines," or "You guys (names such and such) go check out or recon the lumberyard or outpost," and even, "All come back to the keep or stack on crown immediately when directed or called upon."

I am not directly criticizing how communication and operation were managed during that siege event, because I understand we are just normal people coming together and playing a game, and not everyone have been trained and oiled well as a military unit (most, at least.. ha ha). However, you don't need to be military officers or business executives to learn the basic of how you treat each others. Although, written communication is the most misinterpreted and misunderstood form of communication. You still need to know to effectively communicate in writing as well as in person. Heck, sometimes, it's hard enough to communicate with certain people in person.

The guys in my Guild make fun of the people who bark "STAY ON CROWN, STACK ON CROWN, CLEAR COMMS!" all the time. They find it hilarious how dreadfully serious they take the PvP in this game. If their attitude upsets you then you shouldn't join these groups, just join battles as a random player and keep yourself that way.

I recently left a guild due to certain individuals manipulating the group to further their own agenda. I. Other words, using the group to pad their points. It was so blatantly obvious There was a particular female member who was an officer, who was quite good at doing this. We would lose castles and keeps just so she could grab exta points elsewhere.
