Players scamming how to deal with it?

I am well aware of the alloy scam.

Today I got a random email on Xbox one with 6 citrine attached for 30k. Now if this were alloy it would be a steal, and this is why they do it this way.

Luckily I am smart enough to know how this works and I replied to the scammer that I reported him and reported his gamer tag.

Here's my point, what's the best way to get action taken on this? I know he is ripping off others and it upsets me greatly. I don't even know this person but I reported both In game and through Xbox.

I never report people. But this just rubbed me the wrong way. Anyone want to share stories of how they handled this in the past?

Thanks

As an EVE player I am used to all kind of scams - they are not forbidden there and the common reply on such a complaint we are giving is "learn to read and double-check before you accept". It is a good practice for real life - people try to scam and cheat, and it is better to learn in a game, how to deal with it, than to make expensive experiences in real life.

This is my opinion about the matter.

Edit: typical example in EVE - selling a worthless "Carbon" for a "Charon" which is about 1.3 billion isk - people often just read the description, which is player-made - so the description says "Charon" but actually sold is a "Carbon" - who is just quickly looking over the contract and not paying much attention can overlook this and accept.

Not sure if it has hit console or it was part of the new DLC and not on console yet, but they changed the Temper icon because of this.

Personally... The whole idea of being able to scam people like that imo fits into the RP experience. Other scams such as moving items out of the trade window just before the other person accepts is a different story. But ones like this where it's fully dependent on the other person being too lazy to check... Should have no penalization, IMO.

Truth in everything you guys are saying. I just know he's gonna get someone unsuspecting and it just feels wrong after the hard work I've put in to earn my gold.

I did report him in two ways. Let's hope karma catches up to him.

I'm happy the icon has been changed. Hasn't hit Xbox yet but soon :)

LOl i had the excat the same thing 2 for the 8k ... so i heard a voice in my head saying " DUDE THAT IS AWESOME" and then my paranoid voice " HANG ON!!! something is not right.... too good to be true .... " and i was in area chat and i heard people getting the same offer in the mail ect so i reported him on eso and xbox as well.

Its a shame people scamm others , few days ago i was asking for the first time if somebody can make me med armour 9 traits i will supply everything and pay 2k per item

One guy ( wish i can name and shame) told me yes he can so he followed me to the crafting station and we chat for a bit , i gave him 140 matts 2k gold divine and style .. he went towards the crafting station and then rann off and un grope and i was like really ? really ? for 140 mats ?

And after that the next day there was a guy on area chat saying he got scammed out of 100K gold by asking a person to make him lighting staff of juliano ( mats nirron paid the guy and also to upgrade as well to gold) .. so i felt bad for him and ive made one for him as i got heaps of mats its not a big deal.

as i mentioned scammers should be banned or shamed or done something about it.

OOOOOOOOOOO THIS IS WHAT WE NEED

IF the person scammed you and you report them , if he OR she is found guilty they put him in the pillory
(pillory a wooden framework with holes for the head and hands, in which offenders were formerly imprisoned and exposed to public abuse.)

And pillory are placed in major hubs for Ebonheart Pact they are in Deshan so the scammer will be in pillory and you can point and laugh at him and throw rotten food !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NOW THIS IS WHAT WE NEED PILLORY !!!!!
"By many i am seen as hero...as a savior of the Tamriel i will not stop until every Daedra every evil there is in Tamriel is vanquish by my hands..
However i do this for my own purpose to gain trust of mortals to worship me and to eliminate my competition i will not bend my knee to lead your army to serve you Molag Bal , i will simply just take it from you.."--- Forsaken Sin( Magica Sorc)

Did he say he was selling tempering alloy? If not then there's nothing to report, he's simply trying to sell some citrine to a sucker.

Lesson in life...if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is...if someone has stacks of alloys, let's face it it's always been alloys hasn't it. You should spot this a mile off. Then why do they need to dump them cheap? They'd be listed for 1g less than everyone else in thier traders. .

So simply put it's never going to be legit... plus this will go away next week for us. We will still get the "invites to trade, puts up 20 wax with no word on how much they want..I put down 10k and they walk away.." sad times.

I sure hope you are not being serious. I wish they would just start throwing permanent bans to anyone caught scamming, let's say 3 times and your out for good. Then so many people would not think it is OK to scam others. I have played mmo's for quite a while and made some pretty poor decisions in my first couple years of playing mmo's. I have no sympathy for anyone that is banned for scamming others.
While I may be very vigilant, others may not know exactly how similar those two items are. Our they may just be to trusting. But neither of these things give anyone the permission to take advantage of other players by scamming them.

IMHO all but the most egregious scams should have no consequence. The game provides enough information at all times that you shouldn't really be getting scammed in the first place, e.g. by cancelling your trade approval if an offer is changed by the other party or by expressly displaying the items attached to a CoD mail. The only aspect I think should be improved is that the sender of a CoD should be able to revoke it in case the receiver doesn't pick up the items, meaning they could be in a limbo for 30 days until the mail expires. Don't use unsafe trading methods, such as trading away materials without getting your items at the same time, unless you completely trust the other person. If they scam you, put them on your ignore list and warn your guilds/buddies about the person.

The only exceptions for me would be (1) anything that compromises account security, such as players asking for your account details for whatever reason; and (2) such repeated scamming and preying on players that it qualifies as griefing.

By the way, while we're at it, emptying a guild bank is NOT scamming. Guild masters are responsible for setting permissions, and are responsible for whatever their members do with them. If you don't trust a guildie, don't allow them to withdraw from the guild bank.

That is the stupidest thing i've read here in a while.

We don't have withdraw limits, it's either all or nothing.

That's why anything I put into a guild bank I just consider gone. At some point, someone is going to take something from a guild bank that you thought was yours, and you're gonna get pissed about it. Just don't put anything in there that you don't wanna lose.

Still missing the point though. A guild bank is there for the benefit of the whole guild, not just one individual member.
It's not about "i" and "me" and "mine".

Of course i expect the stuff i put in there to be taken and used. That's the whole point of the guild bank.
What isn't *not* the point is to have one person clean out the whole bank and then split from the guild.

Withdraw limits for ranks would help with that, which is why i and many others have requested that feature since beta.

Agreed, the system can be improved. But as it stands right now it IS all or nothing, so you need to tread carefully. Some guilds deal with this by allowing officers to withdraw from the bank and having lower ranks ask officers for the items they need. It still doesn't make clearing a guild bank a scam in my opinion. Not that it matters for me because as I said only the most egregious scams should carry consequences.
