Did I do something wrong and break the main quest?

I got as far as accepting joining the 5 companions. I don'the seem to have moved on to the next quest.

I read that accessing other alliances is achieved by defeating Malag Ball and then Caldwell offers the Silver and Gold questlines.

For me I found as soon as I hit level 50 and had champion rank, the Wayshrines for the other alliances showed up. I traveled to both and played some of the quests. I am up to almost CP 80 but any time I visit the Harbourage the conversations are still the same after 5 champions ones as before.

I didn't think anything was wrong because the quest in the Hollow City talks about going after Molag Ball so I thought it was all part of the same quest group. Now from what I read it sounds like both are separate and the guild wars really just go after Malag Bal's top minions.

Have I broken the main quest? Not the end of the world if I have as I still have Alts who can do it.

the final stage of the harborage quest line will only trigger once you have completed the 'main' quest story line in coldharbour; you can easily go back and pick up where you left off.

silver & gold areas were made available to everyone once they hit 'champ rank' a few updates ago, it used to be that you had to complete main quest & harborage to gain access but this has changed.

in summary you havent broken anything

I am progressing slowly through Coldharbour. I have got partway through the final mission then got distracted with the new aliance areas, DLC and alt characters. I tend to spend time progressing through Coldharbour while waiting for a bounty on my head to wear off (as one of the places with a city that has no guards and ignores the bounty).

It is well worth going through the Cold Harbour storyline and doing the quests.
You will get good xp for doing it, and I enjoyed it even with 2nd and 3rd characters after a decent period in between them.

Coldharbour Quest line is worth doing it, I've been trough it with all my characters. Always talked to crazy Cadwell between quests and these dialogues put a smile on my face

I am so bad at being bad. I get caught all the time. I did the first Dark Brotherhood mission to get initiated and by the end I had about 2500 gold bounty on my head.

I have since decided I won't bother continuing the Thieves Guild or Dark Brotherhood quests with my main character.

This one has created specialist Khadjiit Thief for all the thieving and assignation needs. Albeit tried to start Dark Brotherhood with that character much too soon and the innocent NPC I tried to kill killed me with relative ease...Karma...

I can confirm I completed the main quest and all worked as stated. As soon as I had finished Coldharbour I was invited to the Harbourage straight away to complete the final quest. I did wonder if waiting would mean I was higher level and the final battle would be easier. The Molag Bal battle scales up to my character anyway so no real difference.

It is good to have finished the main quest but I was left feeling more sad and empty than anything. So many people lost. So few who survive. Even those who do many going their own ways and not sure if I will see them again. I am not sure I would consider it a happy ending.

Just stay behind the shield, how hard can it be?
