It's a collection of many many many servers that have to be brought up in a specific sequence most-likely.
I work with similar setups designed for processing scientific research. It can be a very delicate operation, and if it isn't done properly, you're starting over.

Guarantee you these morons won't take ownership, they'll blame something like a DDOS. The sad truth is that this is the culmination of weeks of server issues, people getting d/c'd and add on the release of content without fixing prior issues first. They just don't have the skills to resolve these problems before they have global impact.
