hi,

I was levelling up a new char yesterday and got an this email,

From: ZenimaxOnlineEU

Subject: Congratulations!

Message: Congratulations warrior for ZenimaxOnline would like to reward you with these rare items at -75% RP for your time spent adventuring across tamriel. ZenimaxOnlineEU

Attachments: 3x Citrine

C.O.D Fee: 14,000

now this is clearly the citrine scam but I'm wondering if there is actually any point in reporting them or will it be like the exploiters/cheaters and just be ignored?, I mean I've been playing a while so new about this scam but new people could be fooled as its sounds some what official.

Report it. Used to be, citrine looked like tempers, and players could legitimately scam the careless that way. Either way, trying to pass yourself off as ZOS, or an official ZOS rep is bannable.

I see report it. Better to be safe than sorry. We do need any sticking gold farmers in ESO. As a player based, we need to do battle them as well by reporting them and let ZOS with their big guns blast them to Oblivion and beyond!

I heard a rumor that the citrin icon was going to change to prevent this scam. Is this true?

No, the icon for Tempers was changed, give me a second to get screenshot of the new icon.

Yes, report it. As others have said, passing one off as being Zos is probably against ToS. The citrine itself is not since that is something that people should beware of regardless.

Maybe I'm missing something, but if the whole reason for the icon change was to prevent scammers from abusing it, wouldn't it have made far more sense to have changed the icon for Citrine instead?

By changing the Tempering alloy icon, it only helps people that KNOW it changed. Anyone who didn't read patch (or notice the change) could still mistake Citrine for Alloy. Whereas if they had changed Citrine instead, it would have immediately caused all scam emails to be obviously scams.

You know, that makes a frightening amount of sense. Are you sure you're on the right boards? :p

Report them. They may not ban for scamming, but I'd bet they'll be all over banning for impersonating a ZoS employee.

Yeah, I suspect you are missing something. I think the icon was changed because they used the same icon, not just because people were abusing it. The Alloy that was using the wrong icon. Citrine looks like citrine. It makes sense to change the Alloy.

Exactly what I was thinking. I'm only ever going to remember the icon for tempers because it was that way for so long. So seeing something that resembles what I know is going to make me believe I'm seeing tempers, not citrine.

Okay, yeah, that makes sense. I suppose eventually we'll just have to get used to the new status quo.

Definitely report them. Not only are they scamming you, they are impersonating ZOS, which is an even bigger infraction.
