Everything you Wanted to Know about Enchantments

During the patch downtime I did a some quick tests on PTS to answer some questions about Enchantments/Poisons I've seen regularly asked. If you have further questions or have noticed something that contradicts my test results just let me know!

Base Enchantments:
  • Damage enchantments have a cooldown of 5 seconds
  • Buff/Debuff enchantments have a cooldown of around 10 seconds (closer to 9.2 seconds in my tests)
  • Enchantments on the main/off-hand when Dual Wielding have a random chance of proccing from Light/Heavy attacks if both are not cooling down.
  • Enchantments do proc when using weapon skills. Dual Wield skills seem to have a preferred hand to proc (Twin Slashes procs the off-hand, other skills proc the main-hand).

Infused Enchantments:
  • The reduced 40% cooldown doesn't appear to work for damage enchantments (still have a 5.0 second cooldown)
  • With buff/debuff enchantments cooldown is reduced to around 6 seconds (5.9 secs in my tests) as expected.
  • Does *not* work with poisons.

Torug's Pact + Enchantments:
  • Reduces cooldown of all enchantments by around 1 second as expected (around 4 seconds for damage, 9 seconds for buff/debuff).
  • Does work with poisons.

Torug's Pact + Infused Enchantments:
  • Infused seems to have no effect on damage enchantments again (still a 4 second cooldown).
  • Buff/debuff enchantment cooldown reduces to just under 5 seconds. Since the effect duration is 5 seconds this means you can keep the buff/debuff up near 100% of the time if you LA/HA attack quickly enough.
  • Effect magnitude is multiplicative from both effects, i.e., Final = Base * 1.2 * 1.3

Poisons:
  • 20% chance to apply your equipped poison whenever you make a Light/Heavy Attack or use a weapon skill.
  • 10 second base cooldown for all(?) poisons.
  • Poison duration depends on the particular effect(s) on the poison.
  • Do *not* work with Infused weapons (no effect noticed).
  • Do work with Torug's Pact (increases damage and decreases the cooldown according to the tooltip).

Can you comment on the method you are using to test enchantment cooldowns?

Sure...for damage enchantments it is simply looking at the combat log using Recount and seeing when the enchantment fires using a single sword with an enchantment. For buff/debuff enchantments I use a custom addon that monitors my character's weapon/spell damage and outputs a line along with timestamp in the chat when it changes.

For both enchantment types I simply Light Attack as quickly as possible on the Giants/Mammoths in Wrothgar. Usually I attack until I have around 10 cooldown periods and then average the times. Over all the tests the cooldowns seems to be within +/- 0.5 seconds so hopefully that method gives accurate enough results. I'm also assuming that all enchantments of both types use the same cooldown since I've only tested one type of each (Unresistable Damage and Weapon/Spell Damage glyphs).
