I am so sick and tired of people saying that they are a "DPS". And how anyone else who damages things is a DPS. NO! That is NOT what DPS means. A DPS is a damage per second. A person who applies damage per second is a "DD", or a damage dealer. I cringe daily, and every single time I hear or read someone talking about how good of a DPS they are. It sounds so ridiculous, and obnoxious. So many times I just wanna snap and be like, "No! Shut up! You're not a DPS! You're a damage dealer! DD my boy! DD!"

I guess I'm just gonna say screw it, and start calling myself a DoT or HoT. Since people want to label themselves as a DPS. :trollface:

    It's kinda like PST. People use that in games that don't even have "tells" which makes no sense either. More sense than DPS certainly, but still improper.

    I refer to a damage dealer as a DD but if they refer to themselves as a DPS I don't exactly lose sleep over it

    They are saying "Damage Provider Service".

    As a damage dealer, I choose to identify as a "Sub-Orbital ION Cannon", not DPS or DD. So if you ever need to nuke the site from orbit... you know who to contact.

    Well, I have full-fledge conversations with my polar bear pet. And have found out that he's an ex-skooma addict. I don't know. I would say pretty good.

    DD is damage dealer with no statement on the timeframe...it can be all or nothing, so this abbrevation is VERY useless.
    DPS means Damage per second....and is only a measurement that can be equally all or nothing. (damage per Season)Useless too.
    D is simple damage with no virtually included value, so its ok

    ...go on ...:)

    When selecting a role through group finder, the damage option is labeled. "DPS."

    It is hard to be mad at players when, technically, they are using the game's proper term.

    In calling themselves a DPS they are attempting to convey a message of what role they're interested in. Considering OP seems to understand the message is they will be dealing damage it seems the message has been received clearly.

    Additionally, while understand OP and he is correct, I've refered to being a damage dealer as DPS because it's the general lingo I picked up from MMOs and it seems to be widespread and generally accepted term for the damage role.

    this has been discussed several times in the past and yet most people still use DPS when they mean DD. Once people get an idea in their heads, it is hard to replace with another one. I just say damage or healer or tank. I know what they mean but I do not like that everyone uses DPS either
