I was in Grahtwood (AD) near the entrance to the undaunted when a hostile guard approached me (Since I have a high bounty) Just when I was about to leave the area my game (not my computer) did a hard crash. I tried to quickly sign on to no success. I then tried to completely exit the game and logged in. I realize that after I did log in (it took several mins due to long load times) that the guard had killed me and took over 5k of the money that I had.

Simple fix! When the game crashes... DISABLE hostile enemies!

When your client crashes your actually still in the game live. Since your client crashed it cannot send a message to the server that your no longer in game. It takes a bit for the timeout to kickin for what I asume is obvious reasons.

That could be abused to get out of sticky situations so no.

Unfortunately even when your game completely crashes it thinks you are still in the game for at least a minute. far as the server is concerned you are still there and everything acts like normal. Frustrating as hell but I have found virtually every MMO I have ever played has the exact same issue.

Dont feel to bad, in GW2 if you crash while in PvP or a dungeon not only do you have the exact same lag to logout causing you to die (even if you get back in 30 seconds later) but you get kicked so if you were in a PvP zone with a que, you come back and have to wait the length of the que just to get back to where you were

On consoles, people also get killed while being in rampant loading screens.
Even entire groups get wiped when the healer suddenly is in a loading screen.
ESO was so great on release - since then, it degraded into a bug mess...

What your asking for is most likely impossible. Maybe stay away from undaunted areas with such a high bounty? It's not like they spawned a guard just to screw you...

How can it be abused? What's abusive is crashing and still being attacked by NPCs without defending yourself.

People with bounties see they're noticed by guard, and either exit game or do ctrl+alt+del to crash game (setting up a one key macro to do it), thus avoiding guard.
That's how it would be abused

For example, you aggro some guards and run somewhere where the guards wouldn't normally find you, they corner you, and just before you die and/or take your stuff, you pull the plug - *crash*. If you were to immediately disappear from the game world, you wouldn't die and/or loose your stuff. And by the time you reconnected, the guards would have rubber-banded back to where they came from, allowing you to escape when you re-appeared in the game world.

What's the point of purposely pissing off a guard and then doing an intentional shut down to avoid getting your stuffs taken away? I don't see the logic behind doing that. Why would anyone do that? What benefits would you gain by doing something like that?

The point is that you didn't purposely aggro the guard - that's what they do when they see you with a high bounty. Faced with no way to escape, you purposely crash the game to avoid loosing your stuff.
