Mages Guild Skill line bugged?

Hey guys wondering if anyone can help me, I have collected all lore books from all regions (including silver/golf but excluding cyrodiil) ie 10/10 auridon etc, but mages guild line is only 9&3/4, I have completed the mages guild quest line.

I've had 10 on several characters and don't remember having to get every single book in all zones, what gives, am I missing something here or is it bugged?

I've contacted support and waiting for the 'we're too busy too help' response, in the meantime thought I'd reach out to you guys.

Kinda annoying as I have a dark elf DK and really wanted meteor for this char

Same here. It's Xbox one tho and so I've given up and just play at 9/10
My three characters that were transferred over from PC are not 10/10.

Seems that whatever the bug was, it didn't go back and provide exp but I have no way of confirming I got all the books on console other than looking at websites and wondering through the game on any pre IC areas.

Having even done Orsinium, and TG, silver and gold I'd think I'd hit 10/10 prior to doing all available content.

I shoulda said I'm on Ps4, not completing this will be SO annoying for my build, gonna eat away at my already withered shrunken soul every time I play that char

You're well past it. It only takes the main faction zone and then about 3 zones in silver iirc. Just bugged out like fighters guild used to. Support didn't fix that however it was a patch release.

Yeah I was sure I didn't need that many, thanks for confirming, guess i'll have to hit cyrodiil for some,, think that'll be a real pita as they're so spread out, no decent guides that I can find (found some pics but their's no real detail, just a very rough area etc

Have you completed all collections? Try completing the last one you need and see if you get any kind of boost for doing it.

If console record it as soon as the bar flashes to show what's going on. It'll help support see if any xp was given.

I have one left to get in eastmarch, that one requires opening up a questline to get to the area, which in turn iirc requires doing preceding quests in eastmarch (maybe the whole of gold lol) so it won't be something I can get quickly, judging by how much the bar moved when completing previous zones I highly doubt it will be enough to max the line unless there is an extra amount for collecting all books as opposed to the 10/10 boost.

As for recording it for support, based on my personal previous experience and that posted by others I doubt I will get to the stage of getting into a human dialogue. My previous requests have been keyword search responses by bots or by someone who can't/doesn't actually read the content.

I appreciate you're just making a suggestion to try and help, I'll bear it in mind if I go through the hoops to get the last eastmarch one but I think cyrodiil may be a better call

If xbox is the same as Ps4 you can check which ones you have collected by journal>character>lore and clicking on each zone, mine are all full except 1 missing in eastmarch

Its all about the collections, the rare ones in Cyro and @NewBlacksmurf you can check what books you are missing in the journal. You must complete the sets for the big jumps

I'm sure it's Cyrodil then....didn't know those would be required as I've done all the PvE quests there but I'm sure there's a few books missing as I don't PvE much at all but I did try to grab them all.

I'll check the journal more thoroughly as the basic ones are all 10/10

My memory is terribad but I'm 100% certain I've got 10 mages guild without entering cyrodiil on several characters before with no problems.

That will be it for sure then. I had every book in zones 1-5 and Coldharbour and was sat on around 8.75 I also gave up. Then I collected a few in Cyro maybe 6/7 that each completed sets and that got me to ten. I may have had 1 or 2 from Cadwells silver but I still feel it's doable without Silver even BUT you must complete the sets. Not just zone sets. Each zone has around ten for the zone collection and at least that many again in other collections. There are lots of location guides online if you need them, Dulfy etc

You can check on the required numbers over at UESP. In short, you need 1380 Rep to reach Rank 10. Each book gives you 5, and each completed collection gives you 20. According to what we found at UESP, it is possible to earn 1365 Rep by collecting all Lorebooks within your home alliance territories, Coldharbour and Cyrodiil.

For example, if you've done all the Zone collections, including Silver, Gold and Coldharbour, as well as the Mages Guild storyline, you will be at (70 x 16) + 40 = 1160 Rep, putting you just into Rank 9, leaving you 220 Rep away from Rank 10. That's 32 books in 3 completed collections of 10 with 2 more books on top, or 44 books total without any completed collections.

The only collections which don't have 10 books, aside from the Mages Guild quest collection which is already counted, are Dungeon Lore, which has 17 (one in each dungeon, except Tempest Island which has two), and Dwemer, which has 16.

My understanding, and correct me if I'm wrong, is that ONLY the zone lore books rank up mages guild skill line, ie collections like biographies etc don't (although the dungeon ones do)

There was also a little leveling up from doing the mages guild quest line but not much to speak of

Hi @MuddledMuppet no that's not right ALL the purple / blue glowing books count. Standard lore doesn't but if it glows purple it counts. And you only level from getting the books.

I agree with @Enodoc those stats add up to what I did, 2 or 3 in silver but every other book in alliance, coldharbour and Cyro. People say you have to do all of silver and gold but its not true, IF you have got all the other books and sets its possible.

Yeah, that's true. All of these books count, all of these books don't. You are technically correct that you only rank up by getting the books, but the Mages Guild questline gives you four books (one complete collection) directly, so you do get some rank progress from the questline too, specifically from the Trial of Eyevea collection.

Off topic slightly but there appears to be a bugged lorebook in a small tower just east of Faregyl. Have searched inside and out and it isn't there.

Anyone else experiencing that or is it a bug in the Lorebook add on?

BTW OP I just grabbed every lorebook in stone falls, the rift and cyrodiil and jumped straight to MG L6 3/4 when I finally picked up the quest line so yeah it does sound bugged for you.
