An idea about language packs

U just had this idea that it would be AWESOME if ZOS implemented support for multpile languages in interface.

I, like most of, have learned english through playing games. Why not step up the game? Imagine the possibilities if we were able to use both english and german/french subtitles in conversations with NPCs or item describtions.

Wait. You can't play the game in your select language? That's wrong! The audio is understandable but the rest is simple

You seem to happy about it. I guess English is enjoyable but still I would expect a UI in my own language if I bought a game inside my own country

Ofcourse, I jsut finished downloading the french language pack. The idea is that without knowing the basics, it would be much easier to relate the text to a language that you already understand (for example english).

It would not just be a "cosmetic" change. It would improve overall gaming experience for all those that have trouble socializing with english speaking players. I often come across players with only basic understaing of the language.

Hm alright, the language barrier has always been a trouble in Europe for successful competitive play. Like I'm going to mention WoW.
At one point in the game they changed it so my server would fight against the German servers. And we would get dominated. Not because Germans are better at computer games but because they were better at communication.

I loved having Swedish, Dutch and all other kinds of players on my servers but we were slower in communication compared to servers which had most people using it as their main language

For a while I was convinced that Germans were better than English people at the game. Then I realised it was like 50% UK people anyway

Thats exactly what I'm talking about. That could have long term, positive effect on the entire community. Thats why I would love to hear what ZOS has to say about it. Doesnt seem like much of an efforrt would be needed to acomplish this.

I am against more localization - because it is supporting separation and not integration. The good thing about an international game is that we can learn and get better in speaking a common language - esperanto failed, but history and the ease of learning the basics of the english language made english to be the language of choice now in science, business and worldwide travel and it should be that in games too. We need more integration, not more separation.

Dude, you just don't get it, do you. It would be an option. You would not be forced to use multiple languages while playing. If you chose not to learn other languages, have fun playing the game only in english. Meanwhile those who actually want to learn something useful not only when integrating with others in game, but also in real life, should be allowed to develop their skills.

Actually I am german - english is not my native language, I live in a country with 11-12 official languages (if you count south africa english as a separate one, it is 12), I understand as well afrikaans, but I do not speak it. With it I understand as well dutch to the most part - so do not tell me that I would be too lazy to learn other languages. But it is important for people to speak a common language, because if they don't do that well enough, their chances on the job market will be rather low in future. A game like this is a good opportunity to learn it - so this was the reasoning behind it.

And I am not a dude - Lysette is a female french name (even I think they spell it Lisette) - but I am neither french nor do I speak it.

Btw: you will not learn another language by just reading it from subtitles - you have to listen to native speakers to get it - it is not a good suggestion to just get it in readable form, it is too likely then, that you memorize it in the wrong way - it is counter-productive this way.

Just think about how many people pronounce Worcestershire sauce in the wrong way, because they just read it - it sounds like "wouster-sher sauce" - how many of you would have pronounced it wrongly?

On topic, playing on NA, the vernacular is English, and rarely you find someone who uses French or Spanish.

I remember when I played The Last Remnant, I beat the game in English and then started it play it in Japanese.

Haha, you are daring - I did that with Metro 2033 on my second play through - using russian, for immersion, even I do not speak a word of russian, I cannot even read it. Well, if you do not count Vodka and Nastrovje that is - lol.

What does the volume integral of a function with 3 input parameters have to do with it?

Edit: Ah well, I get it - it is about "we need more integration" - haha, good one.

Actually, that's a probability distribution function for quantum mechanics. Looks a ton like a volume integral, but note how there are infinite bounds (a true spherical integration would have different bounds). Because you have no idea where particle X is for sure going to be at one point in time, if you look everywhere in space, you are guaranteed to find it.

So the integral's value should be 1. But, I don't like the notation of said integral. Notation should be Psi * Psi, because you use complex conjugates for quantum mechanics. Also, the nlm subscript makes me suspect that I might have to use the Dirac Delta function, so value could actually be 0.

Oh, and I played through The Last Remnant with Japanese dialogue. I wouldn't have been able to maneuver through the game in only Japanese. All of the UI was English still.

Germans and their clownish tendency to be productive....

Yet again you prove you completely misunderstand the idea. Let me break it down for ya.

    EXAMPLE
You mouse over an item -> the description window pops up -> in one part of the window you have it witten in english, in the other - french.

It will not make you learn the language stright away, but overtime you get used to it. It does not serve as online course.
    BUT
Given that you actually study it using other sources (native speaking friends etc.) it will have a huge impact on your overall skill with it. That is how I, and many others have learned, and perfected english. Acutally this is the terminology I expect you to understand - you PERFECT your wiritng skills. Not learn it from the basics (however there are plenty of people capable of learning from basics this way).
