I'm too afraid to do dungeons

I hear so many "horror stories" about people being kicked, nasty players etc. Plus I don't know how well I'd do in any dungeon. I think I'm probably comparatively bad. But I'm missing out :(

Same for me. I only do it with a buddy, but most of the time it's only silver, which also can be done solo. :/

You should just do it. Toxic players are few and far between most of my experinces have been good. The worst that will hapeen is you get kicked.

But you don't hear the positive stories though, nobody posts those. The external views you are basing your fear on are biased.
Rarely do people go on the forum and say "my pug today was amazing we did vWGT in under 30min", but it happens quite a bit.

Just go do dungeons with people, unless you are absolutely terrible nothing will be said to you.

Don't be afraid. If you ever need a dungeon buddy ( if you are a PC player that is) feel free to contact me.

My biggest pleasures in playing this game is for the dungeon experience.

My experience is that for every 1 person who kicks/moans etc you get 100 which are fun to play with. Give dungeons at go, they can be great fun 99% of the time. The best groups are those which treat it as a bit of fun - if someone dies then it is 'oops' rather than 'xxxx'. Without knowing people's builds, I would suggest trying first dungeon as a DPS. That is def the least stressful role in the group. I primarily do dungeons as a DPS and have fun, I am trying to learn to be a healer too but since I know I am very much a beginner on that I only enter with much lower level people.

I would suggest that you don't use the Group Finder for the first dungeons as the battle levelling can make them very hard at times. What I would do is go find the lowest level dungeon on the map and wait outside it. In many cases you will see several other people hanging around there too. Most often they are in the same boat as you - trying to find a group. Send one a message about grouping up and you will have a group. Use the zone chat to fill in the other roles 'low-level healer/tank needed for x' type thing. If you have fun doing the dungeon with those people, add them to your friend's list and do more. You can all learn together

When I am running my healer class I will often go heal for level 10-15 doing their first dungeon. I am level 40 so gain no xp for most of the kills, however, I gain experience of learning to heal. People of a low level don't mind if they die a few times during the run. There can be as much satisfaction in helping lower level people complete a dungeon as doing it for the first time yourself. Too many high level (not that i'm very high) are snobbish about who they will group with so that can make it extra hard for people to get their first runs done.

Im the same OP, I have been playing for a long time but I have still never taken the plunge and gone to do a dungeon.

Eventually I am sure I will find a nice group to show one the ropes.

I use anyone for dungeons personally doesn't bother me if you're CP 30 or CP 501. Aslong as 2 out of the 4 know what they're doing it should be easy enough to complete, may have to give some guidance on certain mechanics but how will anyone learn if no one wants to teach them?

Specifically ask in zones for a guild that recruits inexperienced players. Im in 2 guilds that will take new and inexperienced players and in one of those guilds its also a tradition to craft some good gear and food for new players and they get advise on what skills they could use if they want. Unfortunately youre on PS4 and NA so cant inv you on my server:(

Half the time no one even talks in group. If the vet dungeons are too much, stick with the normal
You could hang out in the undaunted area and group up with randoms.....never know what you're gonna get there. I've been fortunate enough to get a few super groups that melt everything....and some not so hot ones too.

You basically need good gear sets( crafted gear, all purple/gold) and you need to know your class.
Also, for veteran the minimum CP points you should have is 350.
Watch YouTube guide for veteran dungeons.
    Edit:
I don't understand, why others are saying you don't need good gear ( all purple) but for veteran you need purple gear.
    Do first normal, its easy!
For veteran stay out of vWGT and vICP, they are very difficult and you need good experience players or very good status.
Lastly OP, remember its a game. So, those pro players are/ maybe just enfants , who rage at others but its your responsibility to improve and ask questions.

For those, who laugh at my recommendation. I say to you all "Good for you !!".

Grab 3 friends and go do them. I'm quite surprised one of the forums most active member is afraid to do dungeon runs. I'm not trying to sound like a jerk here, but what have you been doing this whole time when you're playing? PVP only?
PVP is much scarier than any dungeon. That's coming from a player who mostly PVPs. Generally, vet players have their Undaunted Mettle. Which means they have completed enough dungeons to get what they needed out of them.

So if you're starting dungeons now, you should feel better going in because you're no longer a noobie and no longer have bad gear. Once you reach a certain threshold pertaining to gear, literally every dungeon(except WGT and IC) is a cake walk, even with little to no experience. CP160 purple gear is more than enough to finish Vet Dungeons.

Avoid AOES, stick with your group, focus on the task(and your role) and you're good to go.

If I may also add, dungeons add another feeling of depth to the game. The sounds, the different NPCs, the loot, the environment in general add a new level of content to this game. Dungeons are usually a very enjoyable aspect of the game for the first few run throughs. When I'm over PVPing or questing for the time being, dungeons add more flavor to the game to keep ESO feeling fresh.

    You got this Cazzy.

The only way to get kicked out is when people start to voluntarily drops out, and you're no longer in a group. Usually only happens with very low ranking or newer players. I got queued into a group a few times where the other 3 were from level 10-40 (not CP at all). Even meeting the first boss and getting killed left and right, each one of that group began leaving. So, since I was the only one left, I was voluntarily removed from that dungeon. Same with another instance when we made it to the last boss, but at that time, we were having a bit of trouble taking out that final boss. It was also my first run-in with that boss. The other 3 left one by one, so I was automatically removed from that dungeon.

It was not all bad. I just been doing normal dungeons so far. Overall, I had some good runs and with good people. Actually, after these last couple of patches, the normal dungeons do seem to be much easier lately than a few weeks ago. I don't know if it's because I have more CPs or just been with good group of players. We've been breezing through the baddies and bosses in each dungeons (normal). Anyways, no complains yet of anybody dropping out from this recent couple of weeks' run. It's been enjoyable that I've running 2-3 each time I'm online.

So, just pick up that light saber and get the feel of the first swing, young Jedi.. you'll be all right. Just get the break-the-ice experience, and you'll get the hang of the dungeons.

to add to my former post; add all people you meet and like to your friendslist. In eso 3 things matter much: 1-your gear sets, 2-your skills (both the skills on your bars and your skill in knowing your class) and 3-friends. Number 3 will automatically help you with number 1 and 2

I agree on this: level of cp doesnt matter if 2 of 4 know what to do almost all dungeons are easy for any group and most of my friends, like i do, enjoy helping new players. There are enough patient players with knowledge out there although not every random group will have some of those. Go for it, take the leap of faith, and find friends;)

I disagree. Being a DPS in a dungeon is quite stressful considering the fact that when things don't go as plan, and when the boss don't die in a certain amount of time frame that you're easily to blame for being “too weak”. I've allowed these kind of players doubt my skill and strength up until now.

Everyone has to start somewhere. For most people, when it comes to dungeons, you start alone, having no clue what you are doing. There will always be nasty people, but if you start out with the low level dungeons, and work your way through them, then you are less likely to encounter these people than if you start immediately at veteran pledges.

Personally I would recommend doing it with friends you have made in the game, or if you haven't made any friends yet, finding a levelling / social guild in order to meet people and have someone your own level (skill and character wise) join you for dungeons.

The thing about these "horror stories" you may hear, is that they stand out. They are memorable to people because they rarely happen. You won't often encounter these situations, and it should definitely not be a reason to miss out on a huge part of the game.

Make the extra effort to research what you need to do in each dungeon ahead of time. If you're prepared,
then you're no longer scared or nervous. I had 1 or 2 bad experiences early on, had to play with 1 or 2 jerks,
and even got kicked once, but if I'd looked into what was expected of me and looked into how I needed
to prepare my character, it could have gone better. Doesn't mean they weren't jerks, because we've all

    @Cazzy Hmm.... that's unfortunate. :(

There are plenty of players like that. Getting kicked can happen even if you don't do anything wrong. People are sometimes selfish and mean in groups and will kick players on the final boss to invite friends for monster helm drops. It isn't always a horror story though!

If you ever need someone to run through group dungeons with you, I'll help out. I know you are a PS4 player as well!

I'm PS4 NA. If you are EU, good luck finding some nice people to regularly run with.

Also, the forums have always been a great place to get advice for your class/gear/skills. Don't be afraid to ask for help!

Yes, agree that some people in game can take it far too seriously. Was in a group of 4 and one person keep ranting all the way through. The other three of us became increasingly amused by how angry he was getting. He quit half way through. Probably to save his blood pressure :)

True, DPS isn't super easy, however, in my opinion, compared with Tanking and Healing there is far less pressure on your role. If you don't heal properly then the group can keep dying easily. If you don't tank properly then the group can die easily. However, for DPS as there are two of you it gives more room for you to learn what you are doing. There can be more scope of others to 'carry you' as you get the hang of things. In Vet mode (which I still have not done, despite owning the game since release on PC!!) everyone needs to be at the top of their game. In low level normal dungeons the need to do as much damage is much lower. It is good going in with a group when no one has done it before. You all get to learn together. If you die because you stand in the red too much then you should (one would hope) learn after a couple of deaths that standing in red is a bad thing to do.

I've not had a run in with nasty people in any of my dungeon runs yet, and I use the group finder several times in a day. once in a while the group has split up but there has never been any bad words.

At only cp197 yesterday I used the group finder for vet for the first time, only having just started running vet with my guild. First dungeon was vet fungal grotto and had a successful run, after I left I had a message complimenting my healing :)
It made me very very happy lol :D

So don't worry, just go for it!

You are not alone. I have been in the game for 2 years and have never done a PUG dungeon. I don't do enough dungeons with friends to feel confident in a PUG.

Part of my problem is that I don't really play to be "competitive" in this game. I don't try to maximize DPS with the "proper" build. I don't try to have a "perfect run" with well time animation canceling to achieve optimal DPS. I don't farm and attempt to maximize my Champion Points per Hour number. In combat, I am usually just satisfied if I have fun and they die before I die.

Horror stories or not, I don't want to group with some perfectionist that has tuned his game so that his DPS is consistent to within 1% and is running PUGs in desperation looking for some drop. It is not fair to him, and too stressful for me.

One of my first dungeon stories, way back in April '14:

Pick up my DK, which I thought might do well as a tank. Full heavy armour of course, but by then I only had access to dropped pieces around level 10. Wielding my mighty 2-handed sword. No bar swap back then, so I'm good to go. I ask in zone and find a group for Spindleclutch. In we go!

As a tank, I knew I wanted to grab the baddies' attention and take it away from my group members, so there I am bashing away with my two-hander, trying to make them hit me and not anyone else. Needless to say, that didn't go so well. I had no idea what a taunt was, nor that the only taunt available before leveling undaunted is sitting nicely in the sword & board skill line. I didn't even HAVE a 1-handed weapon and a shield on me. I ask my team if I'm doing something wrong and we have a short conversation about what gear and skills I'm using. I'm given a sword and a shield and advised to slot puncture (fortunately I had a free skill point, which wasn't the case for most of the time when leveling such low-level characters).

From then on it was a breeze. I spammed my taunt, blocked the baddies' attacks and we proceeded through the dungeon with not a single wipe. Happy days.

For vet dungeons you do need to know your role a bit better than what I've described. As a DD, try to maximize your output and avoid one-shot kills (usually standing in stupid for too long, or not avoiding a charged/special attack from a boss); as a healer, you're aiming not only for keeping your mates alive but also to buff them as much as possible (most of the time you'll be over-healing anyway); as a tank, you want to round up the trash groups neatly so DD can mow them down faster (chains and talons work wonders here, sadly they're specific to DKs), take aggro from everything you can, turn bosses away from the group if they have special frontal attacks that might kill a non-tanky team mate, etc.

But most of all, it helps if you play with people you know. Build a friends list out of players with whom you've had good experiences, join a guild and organize your runs from there. Guildies/buddies are much more likely to spend a few minutes teaching you the ropes if you're not very experienced than strangers you pick up in zone chat or through the LFG tool.

You can get vote kicked from group finder or manually kicked from premades at any time.

Know how to not get kicked? Say "hey guys I haven't done this before. Looks really fun though. Can you give me tips on how to do it better as we go along? Also I'm really nervous so please be nice. Thanks. :)"

And then do what they say.

Literally no one will kick you unless you straight up are not trying, or they're jerks, but the jerks are few and far between. No getting away from it. Gotta grow a backbone and dive right in! Only way to get gud is to start at the bottom and get help.

This is a bit exaggerated. Gear helps, but skill and mechanics matter more than raw dps in pledge dungeons. It's a matter of practice.

You just need to dive right in, be pleasant company, and get your group to help you learn and not die. >.<

Being "that story" where someone goes back to their guild and says "wow I just had the noobest pug for the pledge. They'd never done it before, did zero dps, and died a few times, but we eventually got it" is completely fine. That's part of the learning process and a victory on your part.
