Re: Asymetrical Pauldrons

Alright, finally, last night I got my hands on the Morihaus Pauldrons, completing my set. Really love the look of that set and can't wait for the motifs to come out so I can craft it with the bonuses I want instead of the default. But this thread isn't about that, this thread is about asymmetrical pauldrons.

The purpose of the asymmetrical pauldron is for one side to offer a greater degree of protection; protecting the shoulder, neck, and sometimes portions of the chest and back, and the other side to be more lightly armored offering from greater mobility.

Now, logic would dictate that a warrior would want that greater protection on the side which leads into the fight, the shield arm, or in the event he's using a two handed weapon and is right handed, the left side; the side most likely to be absorbing blows and taking physical abuse. Conversely the more lightly armored side would offer more flexibility and a greater range of motion for the weapon arm, making it easier to strike at your opponent or, in terms of jousting where the asymmetrical pauldron was more common, carry a lance.

The problem, here, is that you guys got it reversed. You've got the big shoulder on the weapon hand, and the small shoulder on the shield arm.
How hard would it be to get the art team to swap this? I wince a little every time I see my big bad professional warrior wearing his armor wrong. It's like, "C'mon, guy, get it together."

I believe it's also incorrect with other motifs sporting asymmetrical pauldrons.

I totally agree with this observation. I noticed it first when the Monsters Sets came out: it was nice to have a one sided pauldron, except it was on the "wrong" side. So, I just assumed that in Tamriel most creatures were left-handed: OCD crisis solved :D

Yep! Would love more accuracy in the armour.

Sidenote; the standard shoulders float. It's why I'm opting for the Assassin's League ones for the time being.

Which would be a fine conclusion to draw if every humanoid you see isn't clearly right-handed.

Oh, other note... If you guys in the art team -do- decide to swap the shoulder... Reverse the Breastplate as well, otherwise all those straps will look really silly going up to the shoulder with no armor on it.

You're right, I've never really paid attention to that but now that you mentioned it, OCD is kicking in again :p
