Strange reason for console lag and it's solution

Hi everyone,

First of all I'm on ps4 and not sure if this reason affects xbox or even PC. This works for me so why not share it with the community?

Basically, after SEVERAL tests haha I've found that having Netflix (Yes Netflix!) on and watching something on it at the same time as playing ESO causes a lag in the game.

Now the type of lag is the 1 second delay after you press a button lag and it can sometimes pile up.

My sister sometimes is watching something on Netflix. Of course not near where I play ESO but under the same connection and for some reason it creates a lag. As SOON as Netflix gets turned off the lag goes away instantly. Like I said, I've tested this several times and this is definitely the reason to why I lag.

Other than that, my connection is absolutely fine and never have any issues and ofc this issue isnt ZOS related.

So in conclusion, if you are experiencing console (ps4 in particular) lag, be wary of what else is under your connection and Netflix should be a no no if youre playing ESO. Try it or post any other suggestions/discoveries you've come across :)

Btw* The Netflix is on her ipad if that makes any difference

I believe this may be common knowledge for many but glad to hear your problem has been alleviated.

Modem location can also cause problems.
PS4: NA - AD PSN: imnotanother (Artell Lyeselle)
    Stamina NightBlade 810+ CP - PvP/Trials/Dungeon Ready

Yeah any apps or anything connected online can eat bandwidth. Not just Netflix

haha yeah i thought so but my ps4 usually wins the tug of war in that regard against any other app. But Netflix... too strong haha

Yeah I live in a home with shared Internet and can't monopolize it because thats rude. I am having problems waiting to hear ZOS's solution if any at all.

No. I play alone in the home during the afternoons and there's little to no change in the dismal performance. You're looking for logic and solutions where none can be found--on your end. It's a coding/server issue. Period.

After the latest patch on Xbox I get near no lag on an Aussie connection in pvp. Pve is still bad tho. Usually because people like to troll and sit there with their mates constantly spamming skills at way shrines.

No. I tested it like I said. Netflix on = instant lag. Netflix off = lag stops instantly.

Thats as simple as it gets for you

Quit downloading pictures of people without clothes on (the forums didn't like the P word), at the same time as playing.

FYI - There is no such thing as 'night capping' in a world wide MMO.
FYI - There was no paid Beta. When they launched the game the Beta was over, even if you don't think it was.
    FYI - It's B2P not F2P. There is a difference.
FYI - It doesn't take any player skill to mash keys or buttons in this game. The ones that stay alive longer have the better internet connection and speed.
FYI - The game is not broken, it still works. It just has 'bugs' that need to be fixed.
    Balance is a "Bad" thing.

Example: There were hundreds of Jedi and only two Sith in Star Wars. The Jedi wanted, "Balance in the Force" and they got it. Now there are only two Jedi and two Sith.

    Balance is a "Bad" thing.
Is the glass half full or half empty?
I say, "Get a smaller glass."

I had lag problems on my xbone running wireless internet. My kids' smart TVs, my wife constantly streaming vids on her phone. Went wired and my lag is almost nonexistent. I don't pvp though.
