Anything that constitutes helping NPC'S or doing dungeons should reduce your bounty.

Their should be a redemption program to help lower your bounty without paying gold for it.

i love your suggestion of working off the bounty by doing community service ;)

i also think that bountys should decrease quicker when you are in PvP, because you are basically enlisting to fight for your alliance.... and then you go bk to PvE & the guards are like i dont care if your a war here, you stole a tomato!

    ^^Agreed on the post!

Must've been some tomato, if the bounty's still there after you fought enough to become a "war hero." :D
    Living vicariously through my characters.

    My Girls:
"If you were trapped in your house for, say, a year, how would you pass the time?"

Nephikah the Houseless, dunmer assassin: "I suppose I could use the break. I have a lot of business holdings now that need management."
Swum-Many-Waters, elderly argonian healer: "I think that I would enjoy writing a memoir."
Silh'ki, khajiit warrior-chef: "Would this one be able to go outside, to the nearby river? It's hard to fish without water!"
Peregrine Huntress, bosmer hunter: "Who is forcing me to stay inside, and where can I find them?"
Lorenyawe, altmer mechanist: "And why would I want to go outside in the first place? Too much to be done in the workshop."
Lorelai Magpie, breton master thief: "I'd go nuts. Lucky for me, I have a little experience sneaking out!"
Rasheda the Burning Heart, redguard knight: "I would continue my training to keep my skills sharp."
Hex-Eye Azabi, khajiit daedric priestess: "I suppose it would be lucky, then, that I built a shrine to Mephala in my backyard."
Yngva Stormhammer, nord bandit (reformed...ish): "I hate being inside even when I'm not forced to be. GET. ME. OUT."
Madam Argentia, vampire dunmer aristocrat: "I suppose it would be more of the same. I have a rather... contentious relationship with the sun."
Mazie gra-Bolga, orc scout: "Uh... I'd have to house train my bear..."
Felicia the Wanderer, imperial witch-for-hire: "What Lorelai said."
Calico Jaka-dra, retired khajiit pirate: "This one would like a rest from her grand adventures. Her jewel shop runs out of stock!"
Shimmerbeam, blind altmer psijic: "Provided that I am confined to Artaeum, I do not think I will want for things to occupy my time."
Shauna Blackfire, redguard necromancer: "Sounds like paradise. I hate people."
Kirniel the Undying, cursed bosmer warrior: "I would feel useless, not being able to fight."
Echoes-from-Dragons, argonian who thinks she's a dragon: "All the better to count my hoard!"

(Signature idea shamelessly stolen from Abeille.)

So like you do a quest and instead of it rewarding you with the gold it normally does, it takes that amount off your bounty?

    I like that.

But if you mean you get double rewarded over someone who doesn't have a bounty, because you will still get the quest gold, plus reduced bounty... NO why should bad behavior be rewarded?

Tye first part of reducing a bounty is not getting it in the first place. The idea of the system is to encourage players that wish to partake is stealing and killing to be wise about it. To play smart.

Second, why would doing a dungeon have anything to do with reducing a bounty. Main reason I say this is the dungeons are undaunted and that group could care less about the judicial system.

What about those leniency writ thing that you can write off and clear your bounty? I have many and you can get those by doing the repeatable with the Thieves' guild or I find loads of it in Wrothgar's thieves' troves. Heck, I even have one that would clear 100k worth of bounties, but I doubt it I would ever get to that level. Whenever I don't feel like using my leniency write-off, I just go do rounds of dolmens until I'm cleared.

Isn't it easier to just go to an outlaw's refuge or the Thieve's Guild and pay off your bounty there?

Nah. One good deed does not wipe out a previous bad deed. Redemption is one thing, but we're talking law breaking - and if you're caught, no matter how much nice stuff you've done, the only resolution of breaking a law is facing legal justice. Let players convene juries so we can sentence players instead, much more fun :p

I would think having a high enough bounty should lock you out of questing.

Oh hi! I know you are a known theif and murderer but can you go into my unguarded house get my prized family possession and take it to my father, who is deathly ill and will die without it? Dont worry he will pay you when you get there, for he has the family fortune with him....

What confuses me is that if I accidentally take a fish from a guild store kiosk in Windhelm while trying to talk to the merchant, a guard in Khenarthi's Roost is somehow able to instinctively know that I smell like ill-gotten fish. Even if I threw the fish away. Feh. I think in Skyrim if you stole a low-value item the shopkeeper would just snatch it back from you and (rightfully) act snippy. Wish something like that could be implemented.

You're fighting crime and evil. Doing something that is fight against evil should get your bounty reduced.

And for helping old ladies across the street should increase my salary. If you get a bounty, you probably did something to deserve it. Helping NPCs should make you 'feel good' like helping an old lady across the street, it shouldn't reduce a bounty which you earned by doing something you shouldn't. That's why it's there...as a deterant from breaking the law. If you want to feel like a thief with minor reprocussions, play Grand Theft Auto.
