Real Data On Tech Issues

Disclaimer: I am not trying to undermine the anger and frustration of those experiencing game-breaking tech issues. Those affected by this stuff have every right to be angry and want results. I do wish to look at this issue though with less emotion and more facts (the way I believe ZoS is viewing it).

I am fairly certain that we will never see any actual hard-data from ZoS, but I really would love to know just how wide-spread major tech issues are in this game across different platforms based on actual data and submitted tickets. The reason I question this, is because after reading the forums yesterday afternoon, one might get the impression that the server rooms at ZoS were literally on fire with some people's descriptions of game performance. I was very worried about playing the game when I got home from work, but when I did, I found no major issues (NA PS4).

That was when I really stopped and thought about it. For the most part, I haven't had anything more than annoying bugs that cost a little time, vice of course the Sweeps/Thaum bug and vSO door bug, which were fixed with the patch yesterday. Now, I realize that this is anecdotal and I could just be extremely lucky, but then I considered the amount of players that I roll with, and none of them ever referring to any bugs beyond the normal, "It is annoying," type stuff. I am the GM of a moderate sized guild and officer in other larger ones, so I do interact regularly with a large group of players. Everyone talks annoying bugs, some load screens, occasional crashes, the "Load Screen Boss" at the entrance to SO, lag in Cyrodiil, intermittent problems with weapon attack weaving, but not the major game-breaking stuff I read about here on the forums. Again, I know that this is anecdotal. I understand that. It just makes me question though, if these issues were so widespread, wouldn't I know SOMEONE with a character stuck in Wrothgar by the writs turn-in? (just an arbitrary example) Is it then reasonable for me to assume that the hard data that ZoS has on these issues tells a different story than the one told by forum posters here?

Obviously, I cannot speak for other platforms that I do not currently play on, but I can still ask the question.

We all know that forum viewers are a small percentage of the player-base, and posters an even smaller group, so are the forums telling us the real story about performance issues in the game? I know there are some folks that will claim the ship is sinking in a puddle, but I wish that ZoS would share with us some data that may let cooler minds prevail.

    The real story? Yes. But probably not the whole story. As you say there are a great many people playing without issue. But there are enough having problems that they even mention trying to fix it in the patch notes.

    I think it is mostly human nature, or the isolated nature of computer games to think everyone out there is having the exact same experience, likes and enjoys everything you do, and wants exactly the same thing you do.

    You describe the bugs, but you personally don't consider them not game breaking.

    I define game breaking as a bug which stops you playing the game as intended. These can then be rated based on a severity.

    So these qualify;
    load screens, occasional crashes, the "Load Screen Boss" at the entrance to SO, lag in Cyrodiil, intermittent problems with weapon attack weaving.

    You have only listed some...

    How about;
    Eclipe, AOE flying mode!
    Falling through the ground.
    Health desync
    Unable to load some Characters at times.
    Crit Rush
    Wrothgar (why the Lag)
    Toppling Charge freeze
    Cloak
    Run Speed

    These are just a few I can think of, it doesn't include broken quests. I'm sure others can add to this.

    This game has more bugs than content. The problem is they have been in the game so long everyone either finds a work around or has given up with ZOS ever fixing them so use different skills.

    To think we need cooler heads, when PVP has been broken for 2 years and a new DLC is also laggy is ridiculous, what we need is new management in ZOS.

    This only really relates to PC gamers but have you never noticed in say the Steam forums, especially on bigger releases that a lot of threads are to do with the game being broken or not running correctly, low fps, lag, stutters and crashing. Meanwhile I've played through the entire game smoothly and bug free or not encountering game breaking bugs anyways.

    You know Ive kind of realised that a lot of these are from people who are trying to run the game on stuff like laptops or people who have good hardware but haven't got it set up correctly, even something like having an antivirus running in the background can cause some games to run like garbage but people are quick to blame the developers.

    Let's not forget, anyone who had the mementos glitch happen, is still unable to use their mementos. ZOS refuses to fix the issue for us, if It's not fixed by next patch you can count my payment out :)

    You raise a good point here.

    And as I noted in the disclaimer, if you are one of those folks with a non-functioning game (even if it is your own fault), you are going to be mad heck! This whole thing just makes me wonder if it is an issue with tone and message from a minority that blows something out of proportion. I don't know. I could be TOTALLY wrong here, and the stats may back up the folks that claim the whole game is broken.

    Perception is also very important. As @Cherryblossom noted, there are loads of bugs I did not mention but have experienced as well. He or she and I have different thresholds for what we consider "game-breaking," so that can lead to a difference of opinion on the matter. And @Cherryblossom is right, some of those bugs can be infuriating. I remember losing my Flawless Conqueror title on round 8 on my Templar because charge bugged and I got stuck in the animation unable to use any skills.

    Either way, Show Us the Data ZoS!

    However this doesn't relate to PC's, this also relates to consoles with the same issues with Lag and broken skills. Or is your suggestion that people are using the wrong consoles?

    You are also trolling, saying you have played the entire game smoothly and bug free!

    Read my response and understand what I'm talking about. I don't mention consoles so I don't see how you think I am suggesting people are using their consoles wrong.
    And I wasn't talking about ESO when I said I've played through bug free, I'm just talking about 99% of the games I have bought over the past couple of years since building a new PC and starting a new steam account. I don't actually own ESO on steam, I got the client when it first released.

    In regards to eso I'd estimate I've played about 300 hours, most of these in the past 6 months. The only bugs I have encountered in that time were 3 or 4 instances of being logged out of the game in the middle of dungeons and sometimes I get lag in dungeons as well. Nothing game breaking, if it happened every time I played then I'd start to worry and maybe send a ticket but it doesn't so I don't.
