Now that really p****** me off!
Get home from work at 6pm in the evening weary and wanting some down time so ready to play a bit of ESO...that I have paid $14 a month for for the last 2 years.
Play for one minute .....AND IT GOES OFF LINE for a ANOTHER bloody patch!!!....NOT HAPPY
Take note ESO people : 6pm is prime time in Australia! use your brains and at least let us play when we get home from work
I refer you to the following: https://www.zenimax.com/legal_terms_us
In particular, Section 6: Availability of Services and Content; Game Maintenance, Patches, Updates; Termination of Services
Paragraph1, Sentence 1:ZeniMax does not guarantee that any Services will be available at all times, in all countries and/or all geographic locations, at any given time, or that ZeniMax will continue to offer any particular Services for any particular length of time.
As well as, same Section, Paragraph 2, Sentence 1:ZeniMax may patch, update, or modify a Service at any time with or without notice to You.
You installed the game.
You accepted the TOS/EULA.
You can't cry foul and play the "paying customer" card when things don't go your way.
No indeed, but when the EU and NA servers have been maintained at different times for two years with the EU server having downtime in the middle of the night in Europe and then it's suddenly changed so both servers are maintained at the same time with the EU server having downtime in the day then you are perfectly entitled to complain about it and ask for the original arrangements to be reinstated. That's a perfectly reasonably request especially as there are no apparent performance or other benefits to the new arrangements.
Actually there's a post in the German section of the forums where @ZOS_KaiSchober says simultaneous maintenance will allow us in the future to use only 1 game client to play either NA or EU. Why nobody else from ZOS will say this every time the issue of EU maintenance comes up, I have no idea. ZOS works in mysterious ways...
I understand the complaint, I really do. I'm home at the moment, and would like to play. I don't like it, but it is what it is.
However, ZeniMax is a business. Their function is to make money, and bringing server maintenance together at a single time saves money, and possibly increases staff happiness (admins don't have to work overtime to do exactly the same update process they did several hours before). Additionally, it means ZeniMax can shut down, deploy, start up, test and fix all at the same time which makes sense from a deployment perspective.
BS! Two servers at 2 diff locations. Same amount of work when its on diff time tables. I bet its even less work cause the *** happend on 1 server can be prefented on the next....
Have you ever worked on multi-locational server upgrades?
Didn't think so.
I didn't say it wasn't the same amount of work, I said it saves time, money and increases staff happiness and productivity during deployment.
To explain it further: If it takes 5 hours to update US server, and 5 hours to update EU server, that's 10 hours of work. If you do the updates simultaneously, then you are saving 5 hours. You are saving 5 hours of overtime pay. You have increased staff happiness (because they're sleeping, instead of working) and you've increased the productivity of the company.

Still BS! Servers are update automatically, hit the button and wait. I really do not know where you get the idee from a whole team is need and doing 5 hours of labour. You cleary do not have a clue how thinks work in the digitally world....

I used to work for our country's energy supplier; in order to update the servers for the customer care system (just the customer care system mind you), it took a team of 16 people, working through an entire weekend, and that's excluding the people working at the various regions (several people in each state). Just one portion of that system took three people to shut it down, because each individual had a particular task to perform that one person couldn't perform alone.
Updating a server, is not like updating your home entertainment system, or your Playstation, or your desktop. Some servers, yes, are easy to update. Large servers on the hand, are completely different.
Please get some real world experience before talking about something you clearly have zero experience in dealing with.
In this case, EU means the continent of Europe, not the European Union. Notice how NA also stands for a geographical, not political term.

Its well know energy supliers still run windows 3....
Also, does an American company care about staff hapiness? I doubt that. Patch started at 10 gmt+1, what time zone is that in the US? Its 4AM in NYC and 00.00 in LA area (if I am not wrong). So your hapiness story is BS. Its not about money at all.
You make up all sort off BS up, like I said before, the reason is ONE CLIENT for both NA and EU server.

Thanks for that info, it makes sense and would make the arrangements worthwhile. Goodness only knows why they haven't told all of us.
I live in the European Union, you don't need to tell me what it is... I'd normally read EU like you do (everyone probably does), but it isn't consistent here. Check the launcher settings: the two servers are named "North America" and "Europe", so logically, that's what the abbreviations stand for.In this case, EU means the continent of Europe, not the European Union. Notice how NA also stands for a geographical, not political term.
Its nice you make your own defenition of EU:
DEFINITION of 'European Union - EU'
The European Union (EU) is a group of 27 countries that operates as a cohesive economic and political block. Nineteen of the countries use the euro as their official currency. The EU grew out of a desire to form a single European political entity to end the centuries of warfare among European countries that culminated with World War II, which decimated much of the continent. The European Single Market was established by 12 countries in 1993 to ensure the so-called four freedoms: the movement of goods, services, people and money.
