In what ES game were you able to "side with the Daedra", though? I remember few funny moments from Morrowind where the fact quest NPCs were killable resulted in some interesting choices (i.e. killing a guy you were supposed to protect yielded a higher reward). But I don't think there was anything like that in the main epic storylines...

The game is setup perfectly to be a villain! You have NO SOUL! It was stolen by a daedric loudmouth... that's some epic villain backstory if ever I saw it!

Just don't do the main quest... tell the prophet to send his tongue to where his eyes are at. Do a poop on the mage guild library floor right in front of Valaste.

Get the Blade of Woe & use it on every NPC that you can. Farm the IC for the xyvkin polymorphs. Problem solved!

Games with a dark background are pretty rare these days. Popular ones that is.

You might like Fallen Earth, it's pretty a pretty dark post-apo MMO. Thing is it's pretty old and nobody plays it anymore.

One Tamriel will most likely fix this as you'll be able to go into any alliance territory or zone freely from the very start, with content scaled to your level no matter what. Not even Skyrim had what you are talking about (unless you used mods). You were always destined to be the Dragonborn. It is your choice as the hero mentioned in the Elder Scrolls whether or not you play the hand of fate vs. free will.

The character you play in the game is the Vestige. You're destined to be the hero that saves Nirn from merging in a terrible planemeld with Coldharbour, but how you go about doing so is 'supposed' to be completely up to you. That's how all TES games have been since Morrowind. Due to the way this game is structured, unfortunately, it doesn't make sense for other races to be playable than what we have right now. I'm honestly surprised we even have the choice to be able to play as the Imperial race!

I think the problem here is we lack the amount of 'choice' that we used to have when questing (exploration issues will be fixed with One Tamriel, hopefully). There should be more choices that have actual impacts on the game world during quests and more choices that have a clear cause-and-effect that will allow you to immerse yourself within your own character and his/her own personality. In Skyrim, I would always find myself asking: "Man...what would my character do?"

Sometimes, I would even make decisions I knew I wouldn't like to see play out but that my character would instead.

It got interesting how I would approach situations. Sometimes, if I was a rogue, I would take a completely different path to finish clear a dungeon than I would have otherwise, or I would've done something similar with my approach to quests. I'd like to see more of that in The Elder Scrolls Online because the more we do see that, the better our immersion gets and feel like we're doing something and progressing somewhere in the game. A good example of this type of choice you get in the game was determined very nicely in the starter zones for the Daggerfall Covenant. There's a point where you feel like you actually had to make a huge decision that could shape everything, and you instantly see it play out right afterwards in how people treat you.

I'd argue we need more of that in this game, less focus on structural elements, and more focus on making it align with the game design present in games like The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in terms of having an open-world that uniquely changes depending on your actions.

I don't necessarily see The Vestige as a good guy.

He or she is a mercenary for hire, caught up in circumstances and at the mercy of some clouded prophecy. I don't necessarily think he or she cares about the people they're running quests for.

If you want to worship Molag Bal, go ahead. Use your imagination without being told what to do!

ESO should have some sort of fable like karma system which ranges from "0 = Evil to 100 = Good" and can alter how the world reacts to your character, the player would start at 50 and each thing you do would change it by 1 point so you would need to do 50 good deeds to reach 100 or 50 bad deeds to reach 0, being at either 0 or 100 could grant some kind of buff with 100 karma granting you "Aedric Blessing" increasing all damage you deal to Daedra, Undead and werewolves by 5% while 0 Karma would grant you "Daedric Blessing" increasing all damage you deal to those who are not Daedra, Undead or Werewolves.

Kill people and Steal things and choose "Bad" options in quests and you will become more evil, NPCs will begin to react negatively to your presence giving you 25% higher prices at vendors and more expensive armour repairs, NPCs will also have more negative comments towards you.

Do good deeds and choose the more "Good" options in quests you will become more noble, NPCs will begin to react positively to your presence giving you up to 25% lower prices at vendors and cheaper armour repairs, NPCs will also have more positive comments towards you.

Being a Vampire or Werewolf would grant a permanent -25 Karma unless you went off an cured yourself, also Negative Karma could cause some enemies to flee from you instead of fight while having 100 Karma might make it so enemies half your level up to a maximum of level 25 will not engage you in combat.

    Just an idea....

Simply put this is not something ZOS can do in any reasonable time frame. In order to make it where you can be evil the entire game, they would have to create a completely new story across the main quests and the zones, spanning into the DLC zones as well. It simply can't work with the way you are set up as the vestige. Why would you side with Molag Bal when your soul is sacrificed to him in the beginning cutscene, for example? ZOS would need to create a new story with you as someone who is not the vestige, and they would have to explain how you can come back from death like the vestige can.

Some of you may say "well that'd be perfect for making us play as a dremora!" See, playing as a dremora sounds cool, but literally every NPC will either run away from you or attack you on sight. The only NPCs who would not be hostile are other daedra or members of whatever cult you're supposed to be supporting (likely worm cult). And they'd have to make a fourth faction for the alliance war as well since no one with any sanity will allow some random daedra to fight for them when they're the main force trying to ruin the world.

My point is, it would take an insane amount of work to allow us to be pure evil, ZOS is very very unlikely to ever consider it, particularly when the single player TES games didn't even give you that amount of freedom (killing essential characters in Morrowind effectively declared your save file non-canon so I'm not counting it here).
