I fell to the Dark Side

I've left my mark around the forums. Nightblade hate this, Nightblade teh OP that. I'd become such a staunch opponent to the whole class in general because of it's seemingly easymode capability in-game, particularly in PvP. Over the last year of playing I actually swore to myself I'd never make a Nightblade myself, that's how much I was spiting it.

A couple days ago I created my Khajiit Stamina Nightblade...

I now at least confirmed one thing. My spite was correct. Several abilities that do damage while also returning a steady stream of health. The major bonuses to weapon damage and weapon critical, especially from stealth. The single target burst damage in the first opening seconds is appalling pleasant. After three purely Magicka characters I've fallen to the lure of the Stamblade.

What on Nirn have I done?

Instead of rocks we can throw snowballs up in Bruma. Snowballs from wet snow do additional damage.

I'm just a lazy PvEer, but my setup is 3 Dual wield skills (the bleed, flurry, and hidden dagger), mark target, and whatever seems fun at the moment for the 5th skill. The newer flurry morph that gives health back is great when you stack it up with some of the other healing.

Also, werewolf is very fun to play with.

Edit: And yes, single target is high. Back when leveling was remotely difficult (remember the first time you ran into a group of mobs in a vet zone?), I actually got squished quite frequently till I learned to stick to single targets and take advantage of the large health return when they died. You can actually use your finisher on a marked target too...

Killer's Blade if it finishes the target off.

Swallow Soul also gives you a quarter of your damage done back in health every two seconds, plus that 8% morph boost. None of these skills in my eyes beats what Templars get to use in those "Oh ****" moments though, but they're still pretty good.

Well, Mark Target uses magicka but since debuffs are all generalized now and the health return is a percentage, it's equally useful for either. I actually like not having to pull from my stamina to set it up.

While it would be nice to mark everything in sight... I'd rather not give the angry nerf-mob legit ammunition. That would be OP. The health percent would have to come down, at which point it's just a variant of the execute for game-play purposes. I'll keep it as is. :)

It wouldn't be as bad as you think. I'll explain:

    Pros:
Piercing Mark could keep multiple players from hiding thus ruining their stealth attempts and escapes.
Could give Major resistance debuffs to multiple targets at once.
Reaper's Mark would have a bit of an easier time maintaining the Berserk buff.

    Cons:
    Too much Magicka consumption.
Can still only do one target at a time, thus you'd spend less time attacking/defending.
    Can be Purged.

Feel free to add to the list lol

PvP-wise it wouldn't be terribly OP, you are correct.

PvE-wise it would further trivialize NPC groups...for a six mob pull I'd mark three targets before the fight even starts and chew through them all before the first buff even expires. Maybe even kill all 3 at once with the new Hidden Blade morph... As is, I normally mark my intended 2nd target because the first is going to be dead so fast the heal won't help me.

My first was a magic sorc, and although he was OP as ***, I too fell to the dark side. It's the best thing I ever did. I was right about nightblades being OP as hell, even though the forums would assure me, along with every other non NB, that the class was fine. My main for pvp is now my NB and I'm loving it

1 - The morph of Reapers mark heals for 65% of your max health every time a marked target dies. You just have to be systematic and kill the thing you mark before moving to another target.
2 - The morph of the siphon ultimate returns health drained from multiple targets.

'Several abilities that do damage while also returning a steady stream of health.' Stamblades get burst heals after killing their target, not a steady stream of health. What the OP is talking about is how the class works at very low levels where you can use stam abilities and mag ablities with no difference in effectiveness. The 'steady stream of health' is from magicka abilities. As such the post can be largely disregarded with: dont comment on class balance when youre at level 10.

You guys just really tore into that remark I made didn't you? It's like I'm a Presidential candidate speaking to critics. Alright then let me rephrase myself. The class has "adequate skill abilities that provide a decently appreciated amount of health if certain combat requisites are met." Happy now?
