Returning Player with Champion point System confusion

I was playing this game from beta phase, when game released my 1st character was Sorc[EP], then I made a DK[EP] (Templar and a Nightblade in DC faction).
Past year I heard VR are going to remove soon. Then I made new Templar in EP faction (Lvl up to VR2) and stop using this character untill VR removal. I played this game till Imperial City, bought DLC and felt disappointed. I felt cheated by that DLC and bit angry, so decided little break, spoke to my guild mate and stop playing. Till break my game time was around 3.3k+ hours. Time by time I come to game to see what changes and discuss to old in-game friends.

Last night I finally decided to come back in game, updated everything and jump into game.
Found my skill points are reset and I rewarded champion points.
*** Actual confusion start here
My every character rewarded with 300 CP (100CP in each category), My VR2 Templar also got same CP what my Sorc have.
What happened to my Sorc XP's? My Sorc xp's are 10-15 times more than my baby Templar.
Is that intended by devs to give 300CP to all or some error?
I saw my other mate sitting on 501CP and lagging behind avg CP players in game.
Shall I start grinding for CP or say bye to game again cause I hate grinding?

Can someone explain this CP reward system?

If u are pvp player, I would say u need around 400 + to be competitive vs caped 501 players. For pve purposes it will be just a bit harder for u, but definitly u shouldn't rush, take it esy, enjoy the game.

    The Farron family team (EU)
    sorcerer - Rubeus Farron AR31
    templar - Selene Farron AR27
    nightblade - Ryuho Farron AR25
    stamplar - Nura Farron AR10
stamsorcerer - Kitty Farron AR14 (adopted member)
    DK - Ryu Farron AR17

Exactly this, I came back after 6 months plus away and have around 350CP (started with 300 due to Vet16), seeing people running around with 501 is just like seeing people of a higher level in any MMO system.
If you have played other games that use Alternative Advancement just treat it as though L50 is the top level and these extra points are just improving your ability's.
Don't panic just keep questing/pvpering or what ever you do and slowly they go up.

    Be safe

I was confused too first, but it is pretty easy, before there were two things Veteran Rank and Champion points, that determined how experienced the player was.

Now it is only Champion points, once you hit CP160, you can wear all armors and weapons (even if your character was still not VR16.

Yes CP's count in min-maxing and pvp, they definitely make you more powerful but for normal gameplay they are NOT a game breaker.
Of course you will see people demanding min 300cp or 400cp to join their groups but just join the right guild or do same content with friends and you will complete those dungeons without sweat and stress. The mentality of mmo crowd nowadays is 'go go go' so people want to group with high cp ones to steam- roll and ignore mechanics.
If for pvp low cp can really hurt you so I'd advise to stay in non-cp campaign until you are cp400 or so.
And don't worry just take time and enjoy this beautiful game at your pace, you do not need to grind nor rush, cp's will be flowing, especially when daily burning your enlightenment.
I also have returned from long hiatus couple of months ago, had about 80cp at that time, now with very casual playing I'm sitting on 317.
    Just have fun

If you were off the game you should have a lot of enlightment so you will reach 400 CP in 2 weeks mid grind ( killing whatever you encounter) and simply by playing 501 in a month after.
IC is quite better now that it has district capture and there is small scale pvp in there now, also mobs in IC grant a lot of xp.

Except Enlightenment caps at 12 days :(

Mate IC is the best DLC there is, I have spent more hours there than in the entire game combined.

So different strokes for different folks?

I assume the Champion point system was already in effect before you left?

If so didn't you notice that it's account wide?

Meaning no, your sorcerer is not higher level anymore because vet levels got removed...

There is nothing to be confused about if you search for the patch note about the removal mate

but in short you gained 10 CP for every 1VET level your highest character had up till CP 160 ( being max level ) if you had 160CP and all your other chars were at least Vet 1 all your chars will now be max level and only have to be geared up for it.

All your non level 50 chars have access to the CP as well ( it's a reward be grateful, however if you don't like it don't use it ) there are NON CP PvP campaigns for people who dislike the system.

Who said you need to be MAX cp? Why do you want to have max CP for no work? Why do you feel entitled to also gain 501 CP when your friend probably played for months on end when you weren't?

There is already a catch up mechanic in place that makes you gain CP at a boosted rate.

You are ALREADY max level, just not at CP cap so you just don't have boosted stats (it's not that important). What's important is being at CP 160 which you are already double that.

No reason to cry over spilt milk.

You sound very negative about the game already mate, but remember we can't make you like the game, make you decide to play it or make you enjoy it.

    Only you can do that.

Your name has elite in it I suggest proving us you live up to your name I challenge you to play the game and enjoy it. Do Thieves Guild, Dark Brotherhood. You might actually gain 50-100CP just by doing those 2 ...

    1. Sir I think you mis-understood me. Scroll up and read my post again "Where I am crying?" There is simple confusion and question regarding CP reward.
    2. I am raising question cause in one episode of ESO Live, where combat designer Eric promised, All player will be rewarded according to their experience points.
    3. You started game so late so you dont know what was the issue with Imperial City DLC who bought 1st day and that was the time when people start quitting ESO.
    4. How my post is negative?

I'm in the same situation as OP.
I left when CP path came, back on ESO after 1 year break and now I have to grind 300 CP+. I already did DLCs (except IC). I hate grinding...
