A relatively small percentage of players actually PvP in most MMORPGs, as many players just do not find it fun. PvP really has no place in an MMORPG, which at it's roots is about cooperation and planning between allies to overcome computer controlled enemies. PvP is very hard to incorporate into a PvE game, because it always breaks classes, trying to create "balance".
If you feel that an MMORPG should have PvP, then you should be playing an (MMO)FPS, a genre at it's core designed for PvP.

I think the thing that will make me lol will be that when I finish the main storyline, and be hailed as the savior of the world, I will walk out onto the PvP battlefield and be one-shot.

Been good is not enough you need to play 24/7 a friend of mine tried once, now he is searching a new job....
While I am not a fan of the low time to kill meta, you also cant expect to compete with players who are legendary gear and 501cps. Thats how MMOs work, I mean those who worked hard to get gear and grind CPs should have some power over new players. Play in the no CP campaign first until you learn.

I wish I could play 24/7 just to get the costume. I also wish there was an alternative to getting it but I know that wont happen.
Having a life sucks sometimes.
you know I did a bit of pvp in the beginning of my playing ESO. I attained Rapid Maneuver, but then I played lot of pve and long time no pvp. then again i did now some pvp+pve in Imperial City in a 5 people group and it was very funny. i died a lot of times because of zergs or skilled pvpers, but more times we even killed some players, usually those who were a bit left behind, few gap closers, ultis, wrecking blows and executioners and gone...
it is clearly a LearnToPlay issue, no offence, I experienced that too:)
One reason I like ESO, a huge major reason, is that skill ultimately trumps gear. Sure, better gear helps, but if you gather the materials and study a bit (so many videos out there) you can make your own top tier gear. Crafting matters in this game.
Once you have decent gear and a reasonable build, you just need to practice and get better. There will always be better pvpers out there. They will be faster (younger most likely) and have more time dedicated to pvp. Some people have leveled their characters entirely by pvp. You can't beat them if you don't have the skills from practice.
Whenever I lose in pvp, I know why. I see my mistakes and I see what the other person did that gave them the win. I don't mind this. I love this. I understand why the other person bested me. I have a rewarding and satisfying life outside of ESO, so if I don't have that many hours in the day to be the best in pvp, that's okay. I know if I spend the time I do play with some concentration and an open mind, I will get better than I am now. I love that about ESO.
I don't mind losing to a 1vX guy. Good for him. He's having fun. He practiced and worked hard to get where he is and I can learn something from the experience. I do hate getting zerged down. But that's also an issue of getting better by learning how to avoid the zergs.
