Who else is picking the game back up because of One Tamriel?

I pre-ordered the game back when it first came out, but quit before even reaching level 8 because it just wasn't an Elder Scrolls game. It had a few cool quirks, like being able to enter houses and use any weapon with any class, but at the end of the day it was just another boring mmo.

I rejoined for about two days to try Tamriel Unlimited, but left again because it still felt like a WoW clone. After reading about One Tamriel, however, I am back into the game, because it feels like Zenimax is finally doing what needs to be done in order to turn this into a proper Elder Scrolls mmo. I even subscribed to show my support, but I'm sticking mostly to the leveled dlc areas until One Tamriel is released.

I've seen some players complaining, but for me personally this update is the only reason I'm playing.

A WoW clone? You played only for a few hours and then claim it's a WoW clone? And did you even play WoW?

I attempted to play WoW. Ended up quitting after about a day for the same reasons I quit ESO. Tamriel Unlimited was certainly a step in the right direction, but the game still lacked the exploration that is a staple in the Elder Scrolls.

Then you dont know anything about WoW or TESO. Best you play with offline games because you will be disappointed again!

For me, One Tamriel is a mixed blessing.

We should have been able to freely travel Tamriel, in the Elder Scrolls fashion, from day one, with no Cadwell required. That much is abundantly clear, and I am firmly in favor of the system that allows that.

But, and this is the killer "but" for me, this is a game that follows the Oblivion model rather than the Skyrim model, and Oblivion was very poor in terms of open world simply because the world always scaled to me, all the time. It never mattered what level I was at in Oblivion because I was always the right level. For this reason, I usually just played at Level 5, or something like that. Levels never mattered, at least in the big picture. While they fixed that in Skyrim, I expect One Tamriel to be much the same as Oblivion, which will be endless hours of boredom for me. There is a reason why I never really re-played Oblivion as much as Morrowind and Skyrim, and this is why.

ZOS has a lot of talented developers, but in the end, the studio is lazy and always takes the path of least expense. They could make a One Tamriel where the world still presents challenges and gives the feeling of mastery, but this will take more effort, more time, and more developers. I don't expect them to do it. Not for something that will probably be free to anyone that owns the game. "Good Enough" is the ZOS motto, in just about everything they do. (See the mail system, the guild bank, guild store search, the new barbershop, communication with players, and customer support if you want to know what I mean by "good enough". In each of those cases, they could go the extra distance and be excellent, but that costs more and is a path not traveled.)

The second "but" is the scaled resource nodes that I expect to find in One Tamriel. In Skyrim, resource nodes stayed the same. We could farm iron ore long after we needed it, which was a waste since there was little to do with that iron but sell it to merchants for a pittance. In ESO, there is actually something we can do with materials that are below our character level, and a reason for farming that material. They can benefit other players who do not want to farm, or need equipment at that level that they cannot make. They can be processed to discover tempers without "wasting" current level mats. Sadly, ESO is trending towards normalizing the world to our specific character/player needs and selling us anything beyond that. I am sure a lot of players will find that perfectly acceptable. Sadly, I will not.

I'm actually enjoying the Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild dlc. Once I can go where I want without grinding my way there first(or waiting for my friends to grind there) I'm sure I'll enjoy the rest of Tamriel too.

Before this, though, I was doing exactly that.

is every MMO that's ever released nowadays a WoW clone just because it's an MMO?

I played wow for years. I can say that eso isn't a clone. I would say level 1-10 isn't even enough to judge the game.

All I could stand of WoW was to level 20, and I know that I still don't have a full understanding of it. However it was enough time to get a full cup of the worst MMO community I have ever experienced. But in most MMO games you can get to level 10 within half a day and it really isn't enough to get a picture of what the rest of the content will be like. I knew about ESO alliance factions going in, so I knew what to expect. It's still better than most.

Mixed blessing for me as well as was said above. But I think I'm for it now.

I hated Oblivion for that scaling, but I did get get into Skyrim much more. I've always enjoyed struggling and being scared of every little thing at the beginning...and then coming back and taking my revenge when stronger. But end game has ended up being pretty easy so I can see the other side of the coin.

At first I was totally against for ESO, but I'm starting to come around. I kinda hate/fear that everything will always feel that same and I won't get that feeling of being stronger as I go. Means if I go back to a zone I completed but forgot a couple of delves they are going to feel the same as they would if I would have gotten them the first time around.

But then again, I can do every delve and every side quest without having to over-level everything which really irritates me in this game. It never did in WoW, because I hated questing in that game.

I could also do dungeons while leveling without worrying about it. Even though I want to hit up a random while leveling I hate the it just turns my quests green/gray. And I'm OCD and can't do gray quests.

Also now when leveling, I'm constantly looking online to make sure I only try to do the quests with skill points and a minimum of side quests to make sure my level stays relevant to the content I'm doing.

And one more, the cake buff would have been so much nicer with scaled content. I was leveling so fast, my quests were turning grey quick and I would be getting no XP for mob kills.

So with scaling, some of my irritants will be gone. Assuming I'm understanding how it will work of course.

I will agree that oblivion had terrible scaling. I never touch that game anymore without a mod that changes it. If I have to choose between no scaling and oblivion scaling, though, I'd still go with the scaling.

I'm not sure what exactly the difference between scaling is in Oblivion and Skyrim is, but at least we won't suddenly have bandits wearing daedric armor in ESO. It also helps that we can reset skills, so we don't have to worry about being weaker than everything.

Hopefully they do make it closer to Skyrim's, but either way I'm really happy about this change.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to One Tamriel, though I'm curious how they will get it to work and how level scaling will also work in the game going forward with One Tamriel. I didn't come back for OT, though. I came back for the improvements made to the game that we'd been asking (begging) for since beta: Thieves Guild, Dark Brotherhood, new zones, nameplates, damage indicators, loot history, and better storage (Craft Bag). Hopefully, we get a minimap soon, too! :)

All of those were more than enough reason for me to finally come back and be active again, but I think One Tamriel will finally solidify me in that regard and make a lot of us early supporters come back and get invested in the game all over again. :)

Hopefully, it's the last we see of this kind of update to the game for a while longer so they can focus on adding new PvE solo/group zones, dungeons, raids, and PvP content to the game. That being said, it's not anywhere near as bad as the first year was in terms of getting new content (we only had Dyes, a few Veteran Dungeons, Craglorn, Trials, and DSA added in...eep). I'm glad things have turned around the past year with the inclusion of Imperial City, Orsinium, Hew's Bane, and the Gold Coast on the zone front.

Haven't been to either of them yet, and I'm looking forward to taking the ferry to the Gold Coast and Hew's Bane later when I get to Daggerfall to start getting my Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild stuff going on for my rogue. owo)b
