Costume Dyes: PERFECT ESO+ Perk

I must say, Costume Dye Stamps are PERFECT ESO+ perks. They incentivize players to join ESO+, and there are ways to get these benefits outside of ESO+. Everyone wins and no one is slighted.

Well done ZOS. Keep it up.

Now... about those crafting bags...

Coming in next update... if you're an ESO+ member you can dye at a dye station with the colors you have unlocked... not an ESO+ member, then you can buy dye packs off the Crown Store but they come in pre-determined color schemes but color unlocks are not required to use them... although rare colors will not be available. Dye pack colors will rotate in and out of the Crown Store, and they do stack, so if you find a favorite color scheme, you can buy multiples.

yea! and ZOS is letting ESO+ members do it for free and skill letting non ESO+ members to have access to an alternative.

    They FINALLY get it!

Yeah, I really don't mind this time. I wish it was a base game update, but I'm resigned to the fact that ZOS will monetize every popular longstanding request that isn't a systems update. I suppose I can live without dyed costumes, it's purely cosmetic and not a massive quality of life improvements like crafting bags (I'm still upset about the implementation of those). However, I would change one thing: crown store tokens. Let us choose our own combination of colors - either from all dyes or only our unlocked ones, I don't care either way. Predefined setups are such a subpar option, always missing the tastes of a large number of players. Enlighten me if I'm missing something, but I don't see how it could negatively impact sales?

Well let's hope not everything will be so. I can understand and even agree with some things being an ESO Plus perk, as there should be real ongoing incentive to subscribe to the game. With ESO going Buy-to-Play, there is now a significant non-subscription part of the player base that development must too acknowledge and 'look after' with future content updates. But like all things, there must be balance.

Too much ESO Plus focus and the non-subscribers will become disillusioned and walk away, vice versa and the subscribers will walk away. Either case will result in decrease in profitability of ESO.

They've sharpened it themselves; now let's hope ZoS don't fall off the knife's edge.

So having all the DLCs automatically unlocked to you as an ESO+ member, receiving crowns every month that later on you can use to buy costumes or permanent dlcs is not an enough perk? Crafting bags arent either? Now they had to include something that is purely cosmetically and included by DEFAULT in so many games another perk? Because us non subs are peasants? I spent over 100 bucks on the game and the year is not even over yet, so people like me dont even deserve the most basic thing which is the ability to dye a costume? And to the person that will come here saying "Yes but you spent money this year, us subs pay monthly bla bla bla" no you can unsub just as easy as you can stop buying crowns. (sorry Rev Rielle, I am not mad or angry at you, I agree with what you say, I am just ranting because I am angry xDDDDDDDDDD)

I've posted this in the other thread as well, but figured I might get some more feedback here:

I don't like the system, not because I don't think ESO+ warrants more perks, but simply because this is a double paywall on character customization. A lot of costumes are already quite pricey at 700 Crowns, and to have to pay additional money to change their colour scheme simply results in me not buying any costumes.

A solution could be that upon selecting any costume in the Crown Store, a selection of say 5 versions in different colour schemes are available for purchase for the standard price. I imagine another window popping up and players being able to scroll through the various colourizations of the same costume. Changing the colour scheme afterwards will still cost Crowns or a subscription fee, but it would at least build in some choice in the initial purchase.

But I doubt they will do that to be honest... :( I think ZOS doesnt actually know what they are doing... they started as a game that had subscription as a requirement to play... they saw people dont like it, they removed it a bit... now they realized they screwed up, so they are treating the non subs as the low class of the game, even though I can promise you that some of us pay just as much money or more than subs.

    Er, not really.

If you sub you can use any of your own dyes to dye costumes.

If you remain unsubbed, you can't dye costumes. You can buy Dye Stamps (which come in certain colors only) for Crowns if so inclined, but your OWN actual dyes remain unusable and meaningless.

It's not really the same at all, it's the massive spectrum of colors available now for free VS a handful of color combinations that is added to the store for real money. Don't try and spin it like they're doing some great service, it'd probably be cheaper in the end to just subscribe for 1 month and have unlimited dye potential VS pay half that and get 1 combination that'd probably terrible (IE every other game with store-bought dyes).

Unless, you know, you haven't unlocked any dyes somehow.

I'm meant to be grateful the money I paid goes towards features I'm "not entitled" enough to receive now?

There really isn't a whole lot of reason it needs to be sub only, simple as that. Imagine if Dyeing, period, was sub only...

Costume dyeing isn't sub only though. Yes subs get to make their own color combos but they are going to keep releasing more combos in the crown store.

I could see them adding a free color selection, from a limited and changing selection of dye packs, at the time the costume is purchased.

It's sub only to freely dye costumes with your actual earned dyes.

The "non sub" dyes are chosen by Zenimax and (apparently) come in set combinations... which means, yeah, there's going to be a whole lot of ugly combinations they choose. See SWTOR's dye system, constantly released new dyes... most made your eyes bleed. ESO's system of choose what you like from your earned selection is fantastic in comparison.

For non subs, your actual owned dyes don't mean a thing. If you want to dye something, say, totally light green, you better hope Zeni makes a light green dye pack that only has light green. Repeat for every colour and you can quickly seen why the likelihood goes down to about nil of getting exactly what you want "premade".

Again, you'd be kind of stupid to actually buy a Dye Stamp/Pack (SINGLE USE!!) when you could just do 1 months sub and probably dye lots more items lots of different colours.

Then why don't you sub to do that?

Because I'd rather not subscribe just to have the right to change the color of my clothing in a game? I won't even subscribe for DLC, since it's cheaper to just buy the DLC in the long run. Then if I quit in the future, I lose nothing and can come right back.

Since it looks like Zeni is set on it being sub only, I just won't use it, simple as that.

Exactly you pay less than subs for the DLC so that's why subs are now getting some cool bonuses to make up for that and make the sub more worthwhile.

I can see ESO Plus people buying Dye Packs if it contains colors that they do not have.

For example, you see a dye pack with one color you do not have that would work well with 2 colors you do have. You buy the dye pack and use it, then use your ESO Plus to replace the two other colors with something more visually pleasing. It sounds like you get to buy that color and keep using it on that costume, with any other colors you want, as long as you don't accidentally delete it.

It's a 'one time use only' dye pack... and the color combinations will be with common colors and will not include any RARE colors. You're correct in that you should be able to apply the dye pack and use your own colors to overwrite the other color(s) you don't want, however, with the dye pack you don't get to choose which colors apply to which part of the costume... that is pre-designed in the dye pack itself.

Honestly, I think this is the biggest rip off way to go about costume dying... Every other game (even the absolutely free to play games) the competes with ESO has already made it so much easier, not to mention free, to dye costumes. Or payable with in-game money, which I'd be fine with. Or at least more-fine with. Paying for the costume and then paying again for a "Dye Patch" just for appearances alone is ridiculous. I have bought a lot of things from ESO Crown Store, but this is just going to far. I won't be buying costumes and I won't be buying dyes. You buy a dye stamp with three *** colors in a pre-selected order that you can't alter (correct me if I'm wrong), and even if you can alter, are you even able to see what it looks like on the costume before you apply? Because, right now with the way the armour dying system is, you have to actually click on the dye slot to visually see how that will change the look. Not a big deal until you're paying money for pixels on a screen to be one color or another. A simple roll over feature would have worked. I understand they're trying to make money on an otherwise free game, but, subscriber or not, you've probably already spent quite a bit on the game. If you're not subscribing to the game you're not getting an allowance of Crowns, so you're probably going out and spending $20-$40 to get a Crown package.

When I found out that they want you to pay and pay again for everything other games have already given for free, I was kinda turned off from the game for like a month... And I also thought right away, "Wow, I am actually very happy with just my regular old armour with the dye I've earned on it"
