I have subscribed since the PC beginning (with a 3 month interruption when Upper Craglorn was reseased, to state my discontent with more group-only content), but I consider myself a casual player - I do not grind, nor care to have uber stats or the best build, and I certainly do not do competitive stuff, so I'm not sure what option to pick. 1 and 4 describe my choices both.
I subscribe because it gives me the freedom to go anywhere in game at any time without having to spend crowns on a DLC I may not play in months (for example, I only take a character to IC 3/4 hours per month if there is a guild outing, and only one of my characters is an assassin; only two are thieves). The bonus crowns are nice to have but I'm not overly interested in cosmetic stuff... so far I only bought the black senche mount, the nixad pet, the grey cat pet and a blacksmith costume. Ah, and 4 more character slots to expand my Khajiiti army! I am very happy with the new subscription bonuses: crafting bag and now dyable costumes are good to have, I can see myself continuing to subscribe for a long time.
Wow, pretty nice poll, love it how you didn't colour the options to show your own personal bias and gave so many choices.
My case is exactly that I have been a subscriber since day 1 and dropped my sub recently for several reasons.
For starters I don't believe in free to play. I'm sorry, but if the game takes money to develop and maintain, then you should pay to play it.
Secondly, I hate microtransactions with a passion for the dishonest money grab that they are. They don't reflect the cost of developing and maintaining the game, but rather create a wholly artificial monopolistic market that preys on people's impulse decisions.
Thirdly, the way ZOS dealt with the whole cheating and exploiting issues, from the crafting surveys to the CE debacle, was an exercise in how not to handle this sort of issues in an online game. No real hard punishments, overturned bans for proven cheaters and non-existing communication with concerned players.
Lastly, and this was the last drop for me, I think the switch to the combined sub/microtransactions model has hurt the game, and we've seen it clearly with the last 2 DLC (puny size, zero replayability value), with the ever-increasing grind (glass motifs, anyone? Seriously, 14 pages, each of which requires 10 fragments that are tied to non-repeatable daily quests plus a 10k gold "resin", and that could still get you duplicates until the end of time?), the dominance of BoP...
I have very mixed feelings about the upcoming update. I like the idea of appearance changes and costume dyeing, though these were looong overdue. I *don't* like the idea of race changes (seems like an admission of the current imbalance of racial passives), though i can live with it. I hate the idea of a DLC consisting of dungeons without a corresponding zone to explore. I hate the idea of One Tamriel where all zones are battle leveled.
I still have time on my ESO+, so I'll play it out until the end and decide then whether to subscribe again. One thing is for sure - I will not play as a non-subscriber, so it's either I think the game is worth the monthly payment, or I don't play it at all.
Cancel because if ESO declared they were no longer subscription then lock major features/things behind a subscription that are not battle or area content then it is not buy 2 play. It is entering the slippery slope of pay to win.
Just change the model back to subscription if that's the case. A dye system should be implemented as part of a dlc expansion not a vending machine with extra perk given to subscribers.
Pay to win is not what you are insinuating. It means that you cannot access major features in a hybrid game on par with subscribers without subscribing. Yes crafting bags, appearance changes, and dye systems are convenience and cosmetic.Cancel because if ESO declared they were no longer subscription then lock major features/things behind a subscription that are not battle or area content then it is not buy 2 play. Yes I know... crafting bags and costume dying is gonna help you win every time!
Kept my 6 month sub going even when they stopped offering a 6 month sub for a bit.

I bought some of the DLC and when I'm ready for the rest I will buy it too. While I'm glad the rest of you are getting great perks for subbing I really see no reason other than to support the game, which is what I'm doing buying the DLC.
Maybe when I'm a little more financially stable I'll throw more money at the game just to do it but right now I'm really enjoying the free to play and that's all I really need.
Also there seems to be a level cap increase perk with subbing but I cant be sure. This MIGHT be a reason for me to sub when I hit max F2P level.

Everybody spent money on the box, at least. Everybody. Well, unless it was gifted to them, but then someone still paid. There are no freeloaders in ESO. Most of us actively playing non-subs also purchased some DLC and/or crown store cosmetic.
and if your one of the proud turds that proclaims "i have never spent any money and never will rawr rawr" then you don't get to comment on the game, and if you leave that's fine the game would not want you because your a d**k!
