a question for the pc master race folks

i am a console player -- and have never played anything other than word whomp on a pc -- my question(s) -

1 -- being an ignorant noob, how much should i expect to pay for a gaming pc ?

2 - while i can type rather quickly, i do not believe i have the dexterity needed for pc gaming -- would i need to use a keyboard or do they make controllers that would work with it ?

please forgive my ignorance. any answers greatly appreciated.

You can get some xbox controller simulator that I hear works well.

A good PC, well, your answers are going to be all over the place. I have a $300 walmart computer that has nothing it came with except the motherboard, been kind of dabbling and upgrading as I choose. As far as a rig out of the box, others might help - but expect answers to go over 1K.

PC gaming has it's advantages, I could not imagine playing skyrim without addons, it is a completely different game, but then you can have weird issues come up as well, like add-ons not being updated, that mess with your experience (especially after major patches).

A good example is I have an add-on for ESO that told the lvl range of items in my inventory window (V1-V2, etc). With DB, I had to disable it because it is flat out confused by the new CP system. Consoles have a lot more consistency in this regard, but I cannot imagine playing an MMO with no chat, I mean EQOA had a chat window like 12 years ago for the PS2 and it worked great, so it is not like they have to figure out anything new here.

I put my PC together myself. Cost of the parts was about 1200. It'll def be cheaper than buying a prebuilt. As far as controller support goes, most games support it, ESO is on of them.

You can spend $600 to $1000 or more for a good gaming rig. You don't need the bleeding edge. In fact, last years parts that are one down from top of the line are much cheaper and give you 90% of the performance that current state of the art stuff does, and 50% or less of the price.

Its not so much that you need to type to use a keyboard to play a game, in fact, you will get better at using a keyboard and typing playing a game with a keyboard. You really only use about 10/12 keys for 99% of what you do, so it's easy to learn the muscle memory for that. Plus, all the keys you use all the time are in a tight group on the left side of the keyboard. But, there is a way to use an Xbox controller on the PC if you want that.

I bought my Lenovo Y700 gaming laptop for $1000, and it works fine for ESO and a few other high-end graphic games I play. If you can go to places like Best Buy and look for their discounted floor models, you can get one for $700- $900.
