I am trying to make some light armour since I just learned anyone can do it. So I am an Altmer just trying to make anything to see how it works. So I guess I had some Altmer stone and was able to make a dagger and robe. Now I am trying something else and it says I have no stone to do it. I thought I was able to make anything Altmer, so why do I need these stones?

So how am I suppose to craft and make things. I am wearing lots of heavy armour for my sorcerer. I would like to get more light armour and make it myself since all I am is finding heavy stuff right now. Please help me out. What am I doing wrong?

Every crafting style requires a style stone, which are acquired in various ways. For Adamantite, the Altmer style stone, you can simply purchase it at a crafting vendor for 15 gold apiece. Just go to the crafting pavilions and look for Clothier, Blacksmith, etc etc.

Any crafted item needs to have a style.

You just happen to only have one style available and very few stones, as you are new.

After some time, you will have more styles and stones than you know what to do with.

I wonder if any merchants sell your racial stones cheap so you can at least monkey with crafting early on?

The stones are very cheap, find a guild trader in your town and search for some.

Thank you Emily and Semner, yes that is the name I forgot style. So how do I learn style? I thought since I was Altmer I can craft Altmer style. Why can't I do it, How do I select Altmer style?

*edit* Just read another comment here. Are you saying each time I craft something I need a style stone for it? So even though I am an Altmer I need Altmer style stones as well?

Yes, you must use a consumable crafting style stone for each item you make.

By default you know your race's style, but you can find the other base races (excluding Imperial) easily enough if you loot various containers. You'll need respective stones to make those styles as well.

There are a LARGE number of different styles in the game -- if you're curious, you can deselect "have materials" and "have knowledge" on the crafting menus and that will show you all of the different options.

This is what confuses me. I now understand I need a consumable crafting style. But if I know Altmer style by default why do I need a Adamantite (spelling) stone if I know it?

Does this mean I still need an Adamantite stone to craft? So if I want to craft 100 thingns I will need 100 stones? What if I find a stone for Agronians for instance. Do I have to research it first before I can use it?

Just puzzled on the I know by default my races style.

Just want to add that if you're going to buy style stones, don't do it from NPC vendors. It's way cheaper to buy from the trade guilds. They cost like 1g each (or less) on the guilds for the basic styles. There are more expensive styles but you don't have to worry about that right now.

Yes, each item you craft will need its own individual stone, which will disappear once you create a piece of armor or weapon using it. If you find other style material, you can hang onto them until you learn that style. You learn new styles from books you'll find in chests, nightstands, urns, etc.

Yes 1 racial stone per item crafted. They are a base material just like iron. The 2 together make high elf style item just like having nickel and iron makes imperial style providing you have learnt the motif style. They racial style stone determines they style the iron etc determines the level of the item.

As you play around with it more and progress through the game you will learn new things but never be afraid to ask here on the forums for help :)

Think of it like you want to make a rhinestone jacket, you need leather or materials, and some rhinestones :)

Having to have the stones is just one more thing that adds to the grind of ESO.

At non-vet levels I just wore looted armor and deconstructed everything to level up my crafting and get materials such as stones. The time consuming part for me was farming the material for light, med or heavy armor to create it in the first place.

Here is a guide that might help

Let's say the next racial motif book that you find is "Crafting Motifs 7: Khajiit". You read that book and now know the Khajiit style. You would then need to consume 100 moonstone style stones if you decided to make 100 pieces of weapons and armor in the Khajiit style.

As an example after that, you find "Crafting Motifs 15 - Chapter 8: Dwemer Helms" in a Dwemer dungeon. In this case, because the style is slightly more rare, you would need to find 10 Dwemer scrap in those dungeons ... and refine those into one Dwemer frame at a crafting station. The Dwemer frame is the style stone for crafting one piece of Dwemer armor. So, you would need 1,000 Dwemer scraps to make 100 Dwemer helmets.

Thanks for the link Darkstnght checking it out now. That was a big help Taleof2cities. Didn't know about the Dwemer stuff. Glad to know that as well.

Learned a lot today. Thank you all for making my ESO journey more enjoyable now. Was getting frustrated.
