My User Experience...

Yes, I tried to post a positive thread the other day and I sincerely meant it. There is a lot to love here. However, I am also beyond angry. Sad really. What has the potential to be an amazing experience is, instead, like this:

- i get LUA and UI errors no matter what I do
- I wait in queue to enter Cyrodiil (that's fine, i can wait my turn) but after waiting a very long time to get there, ten minutes later, during a battle, the game lags out, and bam! I am all the way out at the launcher. I reload the game only to find i have to start all over in queue again.
- I stand watch over a keep in Cyrodiil but really don't have to look around. I find it is more effective to watch my ping rate. When it goes up i know the lag squad has arrived. At some point during the ensuing battle they spam my group with meteors with the lag so bad I can't get a single skill off. When I try to rezz up the game lags out and bam! Back to launch, load, queue again.
- I watched today, stunned, as five, yes five, different people chained up into a keep during a single battle. A clear exploit that still isn't fixed.
- I know that when attacked by certain players (who shall remain nameless here) that it is pointless to fight back -- not because of their incredible skill as players but because they are somehow magically able to get off five skills in less than a second. No human has fingers that fast, especially me.
- Any attempts to contact ZOS result in a boilerplate response, usually one which bears little relation to my inquiry, a clear demonstration that no one read what I submitted...

Now, I'm fairly new to gaming, am a disabled old lady, but what I don't understand is why anyone would choose to provide such a horrid user experience. I'm also wondering what recourse a consumer has but have a feeling in this industry consumer protection is not yet a reality. Anyway, I'm just sad.

    Kind lady,

If you're worried about Cyrodiil queue times, you can also join a less populated campaign, more specifically a non-cp campain. Not only you won't have to wait to enter Cyrodiil but you'll also enjoy lag-free PVP.

About support, there is a scheme with their higly automated system: first you receive an automated answer. You need to answer it. Then you will receive a seconded automated answer based on the keyword of your response. You need to answer it aswell. Then a human being will be notified and will deal with your support ticket.

    Cheers

    Sadly that is ESO PVP.

Don't bother with support, it'll get you no where.

Those people getting skills off so quick are either using macros (the more likely) or have such a low ping they practically never lag and tell anyone who does to L2P.

ZOS doesn't care about PVP and it'll never be what it could be. If you want lag free, go to a non-cp camp (I hear the lag there is non-existent mostly). If not then there's nothing you can do, either stick to PVE (which is getting worse from a lag standpoint with each passing patch) or move on to another game.

    It's sad but true.

I might be able to help out with the LUA errors... which are usually caused by add-ons.. not the base game.

Below are the instructions, copy & pasted from here

How to increase your default LUA Memory Limit:

1.) Close completely out of the game and launcher.

NOTE: If you try changing these settings while the game is still active, it will just overwrite what you changed next time you log out and you will be back at square one.

2.) Open your computers "Documents" folder. (Usually can access this straight from the Windows button, if not, go to "Computer" then click "Documents" in the left hand pane.)

3.) Open the folder labeled: "Elder Scrolls Online".

4.) Open the folder labeled: "live"

5.) Open the file labeled: "UserSettings.txt"

6.) Locate the line in this file called: SET LuaMemoryLimitMB "64"

NOTE: To quickly find this line, press "Ctrl + F" to bring up the document search function and type in "Lua" and search. You will find the above mentioned line.

    7.) Change the "64" to either "128" or "256".

NOTE: We want to go in multiples of 2 for this entry. Changing this variable is going to increase the amount of data stored and used by your computers RAM. So if you are willing to give up 256MB, that is what I recommend you change the variable to. I use "256" while using heavy data add-ons, and have not reached the limit yet. So, I'll say "256" is ideal. Now if you don't have much RAM on your computer and can't justify giving up that much RAM, then use "128".

8.) Click "File" in the top left corner of the text document, then click "Save". Then exit out.

9.) Relaunch ESO and enjoy not seeing that error message anymore! Also, enjoy storing more data for your ESO records in game!!!

First - thank you for the kindness of your replies! I appreciate the help and good advice. Still sad about this game, especially PvP because I really do love the PvP concept of this game - just not the lag, cheaters, crashes etc. I'm still sad but love this community.

You need to realize they've been trying to fix Cyrodiil for two years, and sadly broken it even more along the way. If your whole experience is based around PVP then I don't think this game is for you at the moment. (just being realistic).

Me personally wish that they just would just scrap Cyrodiil and bring in arenas plus allow duels.

LUA Error is easy to fix, if you run a lot of addons you need to open up your UserSettings file and increase the amount of memory available for addons.

Although there are a lot of things you can blame on the game, that is not one of them.

@bugmom - I could tell you are probably a new player because you did make a positive post not so long ago. Those of us that have been around ESO for a long time have stopped thinking about the game's potential and moved on to bitterly wishing the development of ESO had been taken up by a better company.

Anyway, as others said you can go to less populate campaigns to experience PvP with less lag, but if you enjoy the PvP in ESO because of massive battles, long sieges, etc (like my self), you will likely find the less populated servers lacking. Your LUA issue is indeed likely due to Addons and you can fix it by following @dem0n1k 's instructions. As for experiencing several abilities hitting you at once, that is likely the result of lag. Your adversary is likely queuing up his abilities and shooting them in a rapid succession which should translate in you taking the damage from each ability at a time, but because of server lag, you seem to receive all the damage in one go giving you no opportunity to defend your self.

As for support, as it was mentioned before, Zenimax has one of the worse customer support in gaming. You will get at least two automated response and the first response from a human being you get will likely be a copy paste from their database, very similar to the useless information the bots passed you. It will take you at least a week of dedicate sending messages to Zenimax to actually get a human being to read your questions and concerns, but even than, I wouldn't expect a useful response. When it comes to lag, they will tell you to uninstall your Addons and blame all the poor performance on your computer. In reality, their servers simply can't handle the stress of those awesome, huge battles we were promised by the game trailers. The number of exploiters and users of cheat engines certainly does not help with this...

On a positive note, not all MMOs and companies are like that.

@grao - you are right! ESO is my first MMO. I've been playing since shortly after release but only discovered PvP about a year and a half ago. I really enjoy it but things seem to have gone from not great to.untenable of late. I had never PvP'd before this game and love the big siege battles! Well, when things are working anyway. I love running with an organized group and trying to play Cyodiil the way it was originally intended. I enjoy the unpredictable element contributed by playing other people versus programs but I have no interest in duels or arenas.

Actually, I had never video gamed before a couple of years ago so much is new to me. I tried trials a couple of times but found them to be too much work for not much fun. They seem to be more about choreography than anything else. "When this happens, everyone move left, when boss spins, everyone dodge roll, hide behind pillars, 5-6-7-8 kick and turn."

I am disabled and when I am playing ESO (and things work) I used to feel whole again. But with the lag, the rampant cheating and all the other issues not so much anymore. I tried WOW and BDO for about ten minutes each and did not care for either.

So, maybe I am now one of the ones bitterly wishing a different company had done this game. My one consolation is the many great people I've encountered here!

I also used to get LUA/UI errors frequently, but these were fixed recently by this add-on: http://www.esoui.com/downloads/info883-ShissusLUAMemory.html

If you log in very quickly, you can sometimes get back in during the window right after your character completely exits the server. However, it would certainly be nice if there were some sort of priority queue for those who are trying to get back in within a few minutes after disconnection/crash.
