Well to be honest I don't think their bones are actually there. Could be Alduin summoned them from another point in time and just happened to use those mounds as a gateway... All speculation on my part due to how iffy their history is and their relation to Akatosh.
They erupted from the ground as skeletons which gradually formed muscles and skin before flying away. The trick to killing them was to get them while they were still skeletons so yeah, I think the bones are there in the mounds just waiting for some lucky excavator to come along.Scura di Notte - Altmer Nightblade (gear)
