Getting Sick Of All The Murders In Town

Vulkhel Guard used to be a peaceful town. Ya, there was the occasional thief here and there. That was fine. Also there was the occasional new player who would accidentally attack an npc and cause a ruckus. But it rarely happened. It used to be a nice vibrant town to get immersed in. The whole atmosphere was peaceful. But now you can't go a minute without hearing people getting murdered all around you. I'm trying to do some crafting, some trading, organize my items at the banker, all the while people are getting murdered all around me. Corpses lying on the streets and avenues. This applies to every towns I visit.

I'm so sick of this. It's at odds with the whole ambient of the place. Ruins my immersion. If the town's were designed to be seedy dangerous places crawling with thieves and murderers, and the atmosphere build around that, I'd be fine with it. But they're not. They were designed to be peaceful lawful vibrant towns full of life. Which motivates the player to spend hours doing these quests to save the town from threats that would destroy it, and return a hero. But now you return to a town full of players murdering NPCs in plain site and you can't do anything about it. They just walk over to the next NPC and continue killing. What's the point? I guess players are doing it to get some lame achievement. But this is stupid. I can't attack them. Can't do anything about it. And it looks like its real easy for players to go on these killing sprees. How is this even fun?

Can we introduce some method of allowing players to report and sick guards on other players who kill NPCs? I'm sure the people going on these murdering sprees would appreciate the extra challenge.

Well, we recently had a bit of an influx of Black Sacraments that have been performed. So ofc we had to dispatch as many of our Brothers and Sisters as we could.

Our sincerest apologies from the Dark Brotherhood for ruining your immersion

Yes, I must admit it's all a bit silly; standing around whilst seeing others get murdered. There was one player in Wayrest the other day, they went from NPC to NPC murdering one after another in the middle of the day.

It's a perfect example of game mechanics - that might work fine in single-player games - completely missing the mark when it comes to a multiplayer platform. Something does need to be done. I see no reason why we shouldn't be able to attack these players if we see (are flagged to have seen) them murder someone.

And that's making no mention of all the corpses lying about still after the NPCs have re-spawned. It's fairly amateurish, ESO development should have done better.
If you can be anything, be kind.

Problem is that those murders are the best way to farm tainted blood, used as the style material for assassin armor.. If ZOS made it so that random villagers could not drop it, towns would go back to normal pretty fast

Sorry my so called "lame achievement" wrecked your "immersion". You know that cat...Phynaster? Why does he always stare at me when I visit Vulkhel Guard, He always wrecks my immersion.

It will die out eventually. It is the novelty of the Blade of Woe.

...Then One Tamriel will be released and it will be chaos again.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

Even back when the Justice System was outlined, some of us suggested that these types of mechanics would lead to these kinds of situations.

We got called fear-mongers and were told that our concerns were unfounded.

All I can say now is something that rhymes with: "I sold you dough"

Just a few more whacks to make sure it's not playing possum! :D

It seems to me there are players complaining that the recent rise in the Dark Brotherhood is turning once peaceful, serene towns into abattoirs & the mighty guards are powerless to stop them! Who could possible have the skill & fortitude to stop these fiends!? Lefty Lucy maybe :D

If we can't hunt players down then we should at least beable to get the guards to do it for us, maybe you can put a bounty on another player and the more gold you pay the more guards go after them meaning it is harder for them to escape.

Honestly, seeing as they've dropped the idea of player enforcers, I don't see anything wrong with giving other players the ability to call the guards in some way when they spot a crime. I was sneaking around swiping some stuff for a newly made character just the other day, and thinking how weird it was that I had to worry about NPC's seeing and reporting me, but players, for some reason, couldn't do a thing. If players could call the gaurds, it'd help drive crime to more secluded places within cities - alleyways, the interior of homes, etc. - where it makes more sense for them to be. Personally, I think it'd make being a thief/assassin more fun if I had to worry more about being seen out in the open, or in a crowded area.

I'm one of the murderers - not AD, but in EP.

I think it is too easy, though. WAY TOO EASY. Easier than stealing. Kill any potential witnesses before you steal stuff, and there is no bounty. You can even assassinate the NPC witnesses in a Bank, easy. No guards, no bounty, and then you can safely loot the lockbox nice and easy with no NPC nagging you.

It's easy money and exp, but I don't do it that much anymore because it's not very fun and not even remotely challenging. And just like the knife twirling, the novelty wore off after a day or two. But if I get the mission from the Brotherhood to kill 10 innocent people, I'll do it.

There are a lot of things fun about DB DLC, but they really should have made a policy of "What happens in the Gold Coast Stays in the Gold Coast". It's forcing people to participate in an aspect of the game they didn't agree to or want (or they would have bought it).

In so many ways, NO! that would be an abused system in 10 seconds tops

I was one of these murderers.

Because the murder contracts were the way to level the DB skill line to keep going with the quest.

Then I hit DB 12 and I stopped.

There's probably many doing the same. Once they hit DB12, what's the point of continuing?

    Oh yeah, the tainted blood.

Well people might want that too.

I really don't think that the contracts are the issue.. Try going to Anvil, and run around the back of the chapel for example.. those 4 npcs spend 95% of their time dead, and they are not on any contracts.. it's the blood
