There's nothing lore-breaking behind character re-customization. The player's character was "forged in soulfire" by Molag Bal. Your soul was ripped from your body and replaced with an animus from Oblivion. That's literally the lore - not enterpreted, just written as plain text in-game. Who's to say that Molag Bal doesn't have some "Soul Forge" somewhere in Coldharbour? Being able to recraft your character completely is fine.

The entire "flavor" argument falls flat on its backside when you realize that people already roll the best setup every patch. This "re-customize option" would be aimed at those who have amassed many achievements on one character and don't have time to play many characters. Being able to try other races/classes while retaining your progression (especially after unwanted ZoS patches added months or even over a year after you made your character) is perfectly reasonable. If your character's soul can be remade by a Daedric Prince, surely you realize that in Tamriel that no decision is truly permanent?

Baby steps - even if ZOS would have wanted to add a class change, there is no reason to provide it along with the race change. The thing is that class change is probably a lot more tricky than race change from a technical perspective. One is changing 4 racial passives and/or appearance, the other is changing 3 skill lines with 6 active and 4 passive skills each.

There are several problems regarding class change. Say I'm a Templar, with fully leveled Templar skill lines and skills. Then I change my class to Nightblade. Should my skill lines and skills be leveled? I'm guessing not. Ok, I then I level Nightblade skills, then decide to change back to Templar. Do my Templar skills come back leveled? Am I actually allowed several class changes? Also, what happens if my character was on some leaderboard as a Templar, but suddenly he is a Nightblade?
And this is just what I can come up with right now, and only from a player's perspective. There might be a lot of programming stuff I just don't know about, that could make this difficult to implement.

Actually, as a programmer I would simplify a lot of those possible issues by simply doing the following with Class Change:
    - When used, implements a skill reset.
    - Each time it is used, class skill lines are reset 1.
    - Leaderboards are disabled for that character during the appropriate week/month. Any AP campaign progression is lost for that campaign.
    - Class change can be done any number of times, but the penalty for weekly/campaign rewards and leaderboards will apply. In additon, skill lines are ALWAYS reset to 1, regardless of previous class choice.

You are right that it is trickier to code than simply Race Change, but if you eliminate some variables like I did above, the process becomes much simpler. Hopefully, ZoS will implement something close to this in the future to reduce bugs/exploits with this feature.

Yes! I agree on those options. Race change is not enough to change my actual toons and perform better on their roles (some DPS other are tanks)

Honestly with removal of vet ranks leveling to 50 takes one day max. I already have all four classes 50 as magicka races and a redguard night blade at 50 and 3 others around 30-40.

I just dont understand how class or race change is a relavant topic anymore.

Now appearence change id pay for that.

Problem is, what about your progress on silver and gold zones? What if you have maxed your horse and bag space and spent lots of gold in the process? Will you give up your character that easily?

Why does everyone want race change? Every race is viable to succeed in pve and in pvp every way. And if you at the beginning made some race cause of appearance then seems like beeing best is not most important for you.

If they add race change then they should also bring class change! It would be equal then cause some people may regret that they made argonian or nord but some might also regret that they made sorc or templar.

More choice is good, less choice is bad and really what difference does it make to you?

Race change should be through the Crown Store and they should change the race passives every week so that min/maxers will have to buy more crowns 4X a month.

As for classes, we could do without them. Everyone picks any 3 "class" skill lines. Whatever you want. No more whining about how this or that class is OP since we all have the same choices available.

I can understand you anger about race change. But really its not a big thing in my book. All my champ/vet whatever they are now toons I made at launch of this game. I had no clue what the hidden messages meant and didn't want to reroll toons until I could figure it all out. Besides they haven't changed anything with race as of yet that I know of, might have been talk about removing argorian master swimming passive thing but I don't think that happened. But its a time issue, pretty sure ZoS is not catering to any of the long term players or hard core players. So your casual gamer, who plays the DLC and then doesn't play any more until the next DLC, this would be the most awesome thing since sliced bread. If you worried everyone is going to just change their race to what is op or the flavor of the month stuff then I suggest that you never respect you champion points or attribute points. Changing your race does change your actually appearance, but in all reality it is just a repec of the toon. Instead of forcing people to grind out a toon in a couple of weeks, as well rework on all the acheesements and who know what other things they had built up with their toon, why not change their race? Kind of silly to think people are going to be op by respec'n their race passives. You either know how to play your toon or you don't or you cheat (sorry that's another thread.)
Given that ZoS is catering to causal players, what is the big deal is about changing even the class? For when ZoS nerfs people's Sorc abilities and give Templars love or how ever they wish to fix/mess up a class. Wouldn't it be nice to change your toon to the op class of the month(s) and not have to roll another whole toon. Keep the skill points and aps and not have to be in a time suck grinding another toon up? The Big deal is there is no money in this. There wouldn't be a need to have more then 1 toon ever. Especially with the new DLC where people will be able to pve where ever they want. There wont be a reason for any of the pve'rs to ever worry about which fraction their from. Well, I reckon that if you do pvp you might need a total of 3 toons maybe for each fraction.. I don't know I have never been a casual player would they go to these lengths? Do causual players pvp? I don't know but anyways that's another subject. I do know however so far if ZoS says it will not do something, they will probably not do it. If they say they are going to do something like put posions in the game, they will do it, eventually.. sometime.. just keep waiting.. it will be here.. soonish.. maybe.. yeah.I need to stop now, I am getting way off topic.

    Summary argument:
Race change = a different type of respect
Class change = never gonna happen roll another toon.

After completely messing up the MMO part by not addressing the issue of rampant cheats and exploits, ZOS is now attacking the RPG part by allowing race changes - on top of the easier rerolls thanks to CPs.

What's going to be left of the game - not an MMORPG, but some sort of adventure game where players connect every 3 months after each new DLC and complete their little PVE zone quests, changing races as their mood fancies: "oh today I'm going to kill innocents as an Altmer, tomorrow as a Breton".

    This Orc smirks disapprovingly.

If people don't like race changes don't use it, No ones pointing a gun at your head to force you, Just ignore it.

Don't like seeing in the game still like its the plague? Then Quit the game and find another MMO like Perfect World, No Class or Race Changes there.

I did not pay the full imperial edition for nothing and if we get less options and not more options I cannot ask Value to refund my money on steam beacuse its far to late.

Would you be happy to destroy a maxed out lvl character with top gear beacuse you want to change its race or gender? You would not, In Guild Wars 2 I had a character who was like my main but asa different class (Mesmer) and I did not want to kill the lvl 20 character so I got a Idenity Repair Kit to fix both the name and character's looks and Gender. She now is her own character rather than a direct copy of my Main Male Charr.

I screwed up a lot of my characters in Perfect World Game and that was like vary far back, I have to go through deleting characters and wait 7 days for it to be deleted to re-do them properly that I could of done better like I had gotten better at orginizing my characters and making them perfect in GW2.

I have one max level character with a max horse that I would like to change the race on.

I spent real money on that character to upgrade bags and 6 months to max the horse.

Nay sayers are just being selfish.
Youll never know which characters had their race changed ever.
It doesnt effect you in the slightest so why do you care?
Arguements about balance are stupid. It will not imbalance the game in the slightest.
Let people play what they want to play.

Yes Yes YES to race change option.

No offence but it sounds like you're only annoyed because they are bringing the change that you don't want. Would you be complaining if it was class change instead of race change? somehow I doubt it and no doubt someone else would pick up the slack and complain if they are bringing class change why not race change.

more on topic; They probably will bring class change at some point. As for why? well frankly they're changing up racial passives all the time (maybe a bit of an exaggeration) so while all racial passives are viable for almost any build, other races will prosper far more in tanking, DPS (DPS being a wider angle due to DPS being dealt in multiple ways, i.e more damage to daedra, more fire damage. etc) and healing. So people may want to change to still be at the top of their game.

Others for example may want to role play and so at some point they may get bored of playing an argonian or a breton so they may change to a nord or khajit . Its not realistic sure and may break immersion for some. But for many this will be a sigh of relief even if it is a crown store item (which is most likely).
