Rubber Bandits - Reportable?

Firstly, no arguments or rudeness, please. I just want a mature discussion on the subject

I'm referring to people who use rubber bands so they can continously use their weapon without being kicked. I noticed one such person in the new DLC area farming the delve boss. High level chap, much more powerful than anyone else there. Unfortunately as they are part of the dailies some people, including myself, weren't quick enough to kill him. I think we got a good 4 rounds in before me and someone achieved it. Regardless, are these reportable offenses? Is it promoting bad sportsmanship? Or is it a legit way to play? Discuss (nicely!)

Essentially it's the most basic form of automating your character doing an action over and over. You literally use a rubber band to hold down a trigger or something on your controller and just go away and leave it like that.

Edit: and I think it's reportable.

So...these people wrap a rubber band around what R2 and shoot arrows continuously at a spot where the boss spawns and go take a nap or something...? Or you mean just making sure there is no idleness and they dont get booted for inactivity while they wait for the boss to respawn? Sorry its Monday and I think im just not getting it.

They usually use Staves to constantly do Heavy Attacks while afk. Bows would not work because you have to release the trigger to fire the arrow and melee weapons would leave them vulnerable.

I would report the player for bot'ing...

If they are truly AFK then you can also use a range taunt (inner fire) to pull the boss from their target area so AFK player doesn't get to do very much damage to it...

I think its a lazy and crappy thing to do but how would you know if they were doing it with a rubberband or just holding their finger down and just really suck at mixing up play style?

Ok...also the term rubberbanding sounds like a S&M fetish or something. "doing it with a rubber band" lol

It's obvious when you see someone standing somewhere safe and just stays there constantly firing fireballs towards the spawn point.

I wonder if this person got the memo that if you kill a Boss too soon after the previous one you don't get any Boss Loot, but just normal Mob Loot. The Exp earned also goes down on subsiquent kills.

In this case, contact a GM with the Help Screen, if they are on, they will come and take care of the character. Or, at least they used to. We have not had this type of thing on PC since release month.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

    ^This.

I've seen it a couple of times on PC, but the last time I saw it was probably a year ago, and I never found it to be common. I do remember coming across a "leveling guide" online quite some time ago that recommended going to one particular spot where you could rubber-band a controller and kill mobs endlessly with flame staff heavy attacks and they couldn't get to you to kill you. Out of curiosity I went to that spot a few times, but never witnessed anyone actually doing it there.

Wow. The last time I heard of people using rubber bands to hold down controller triggers was back in the days of Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire on Game Boy Advance, when it was the standard way of getting eggs to hatch. Wrap a rubber band around the trigger, put yourself on the Mach Bike (which can't ride up hills), position character at bottom of a hill. Each attempt at riding up the hill would count as one step, but you wouldn't actually move since that bike doesn't go uphill, hence no need to worry about fights. Repeat until you have gone enough steps for the Pokemon egg to hatch.

At least, I think it was the Mach Bike which couldn't do hills and the Acro Bike which could. Might have been the other way round. We're talking 2003 here and my memory isn't that good :p.

I'm kinda amused that people are still doing this stuff in 2016, on a game where there are plenty of other real human players to troll enemies away from them.

Yup. It was humorous at first but became annoying and ruined my enjoyment. Then I left, came back and it's died down but not stopped. Could be people farming for motifs, set pieces, mats or CP. It's definitely more prolific on console.

Are they truly hurting your gameplay experience though? They still have to be at their console to actually loot the enemy anyway so they can't really be considered a bot and it is not a software so it could not be detected anyway. It is harmless especially with the loot timer that prevents the boss from dropping loot for the player for about 10 minutes.

Depends on why they're rubberbanding. Either way it's lazy and frowned upon.

Remember back in the day when NES had turbo controllers? It would rapidly press the A button for you, some games that have no click limit would go automatic fire. Why don't they do that for controllers these days, that would be awesome.
