Trapping Webs is an Undaunted Ability that was recently buffed from a single-target damage/slow to an AOE snare/delayed damage in the Dark Brotherhood patch. However, this change was seemingly made in a vacuum with regards to the synergy which may as well have been removed from the game entirely. Previously, the synergy could be activated just by being near a target that was being slowed/damaged: now, the requirement has changed to only being able to activate the synergy on a target that is
snared.
Synergy's cannot be activated alone, so this is a big fat 0 in solo play may as well not exist
Group PvE, where you have people around to activate synergies: let's say group Dungeons. Yet, throughout an entire dungeon I wasn't able to get a single Spawn Broodlings/Black Widows to proc: but why, the group was using syngeries all the time! I even outright asked if they could activate it and they said they were trying to do so, and even someone else was using Trapping Webs as well. So where's my spiders? Check the tooltip again...
- Hurl strands of cursed spider silk to ensnare your foes, reducing the Movement Speed of enemies in the target area by 50%. After 5 seconds the webs burst into venom, dealing [x] Poison Damage to the enemies within.
- Allies can activate the Spawn Broodlings synergy against any snared enemy, dealing [y] Poison Damage to them and summoning 2 spiders for 15 seconds.
"Any snared enemy". You know what can't be snared? Normal Dungeon bosses. Vet Dungeon bosses. Trial bosses. As such, the synergy has become impossible to activate outside of trash mobs between bosses, and even then said mobs don't stay snared long enough or it's not regisitering properly since I couldn't even get a spawn on trash either.
Put simply, this Undaunted Ability has basically been buffed for one purpose and practically had it's synergy removed in the process, since in most group PvE you can't snare the bosses to begin with. The old Trapping Webs was already super niche and weak, and that was with a synergy that was incredibly easy to activate on trash AND bosses. Now? It's a small AOE snare that does nothing to bosses and you'll never see it's synergy used again.
Zenimax if you're listening, I'm fully aware you aren't going to make bosses snare-able: but at the very least change the requirements for Spawn Broodlings/Black Widows to something that can actually be used in group PvE again! Recent Trapping Webs damage, something, anything! I used to pull this out for a bit of dungeon fun from time to time, now the ability may as well not exist for me.
