Back to ESO after 1 year of absence - impressions

Hi all!
I have just returned to the game after a year absence.
There were many reasons why I gave up with playing, but the most important was the lack of end-game content. The only activities I could do were: repeatable group runs and (buggy) PvP in Cyrodiil. I ended-up with several VR16 characters, and not much to keep me enjoying the game.
I am back and I would like to share with you some of my impressions, after couple of days of playing:
Positives:
  • A lot of new content - I missed Osirinium, Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood expansions and now have a lot to do :-)
  • There is single player end-game content. Don't get me wrong I like group content and challenges, but at some point, if you did it several times (like undaunted quest runs), it becomes boring: same role - same rotations. I tried to change characters and roles in group, but still the group mechanic bring no surprises at some point. Additionally if there was no group available, usually there was nothing to be done. A year ago I maxed all crafting, soloed some group dungeons, joined trading guilds, but at some point it was not enough.
  • Maelstrom arena - I checked it, love its concept, and hope ZoS will continue to develop more such challenges for single player. I plan to run all my characters through that arena :-)
  • Cyrodill - I did not notice 1-shot kills. Although all my characters (now L50, previously VR16) can die in seconds if ganked by a Templar or NB (shards or arrow).
Negatives:
  • Cyrodill - same lag spikes when more people appear/battle in the same location - making the play still very frustrating. It could be the strongest argument for playing ESO. I believe PvP in that game is pretty good thought, but technical realization of Cyrodill is much below of any other game I played in years.
Other observations:
  • Clasess - all classes seem to do pretty good (I love Templar now). Maybe only Sorc is a little bit weaker than others.
  • Lack of VR - I think this is a good move. It may help to balance the game, and allow accessing new content for more characters - without waiting to achieve certain VR level.
  • Players - maybe I was checking not popular zones, but it seems there is less palyers than a year ago.
I am currently digging more Dark Brotherhood and Maelstrom. Anything else I missed and should check right now? Or maybe I should start with something else, like Thieves Guild? Any suggestions welcome.

Given that you have not played for a year, I think ZOS will be far more interested in catering to your demands than listening to those of us who carried on playing :/

There are far less players, and that new content? You'll be done with it in less then a week, and then you are left with the same "Grind, Buggy, Pvp, PvE that made you leave to begin with.

The additions you mentioned seem like a lot, but the content is simply a hollow shell with no depth. Both the TG and DB take less then 15 hours to go through, and Orsinium, maybe a few days.

    Other then that,

Cheaters and hackers were given a total Pardon, so they are back worse then ever, Cheat Engine is still Rampant, Lag is worse then ever, and there are more bugs then ever, with no fix in site. Classes are still Locked, The game is still on Rails, and ZOE is still lieing to it's customers and price gouging them.

So people are canceling their subs in droves.

Pay 15$ Get your content finished, and go back to a better game. Or just chalk this one up as a lost cause and uninstall it.

You sound like a PC player. If so the consoles are the future and that's why with One Tamerial hopefully we can cement the casuals as the go to crowd

I am a PC player, But from what I hear the XB1 Crowed isn't pleased either because the CTD's for them have been rampant the last few weeks, and a lot of them are quiting also.

I also back on ESO after 1.5 years. A lot of stuff to do and it's pretty nice.

But too many CP to get to be competitive in PvP (I play with my guildmate, they are all 501 so they play on CP allowed campaigns) or in general. It would be better if enlightenment cap was more than 12 days for returned players.

I agree - new content takes days to finish. Any PvE content added, i have always believed, is just a step to making you better for PvP. PvP is endgame as it is repetitive but not to the extent of PvE.

PvP here has decreased into a joke. Heaps now use Cheat Engine, people getting caught because players taking time out to mass report, they perma-banned only to be allowed back. Now more use this because of Zo$ weak stance and not wanting to acknowledge it (Spent days and days silencing forum members and sweeping threads away) before making ther own thread, which isnt stickied and floats past pages 2/3+. Shows how serious they taking it.

Lag is worse each DLC, Pve and PvP affected. More skills and set items broken/being exploited as they build and release DLC on a bad foundation of code.

They do this, so people like yourself come back, give them some money to *** around and then leave again. You try some PvP get pawned and just think your not that experienced at the game and move on lol

Hearing a lot more reports on bots now resurfacing/being sold. I think this will push them to act as it impacts the casual style player more than PvP will.

PvP is great. I and many others enjoy it enormously and without cheating.

With the last update and the imporvements to tyhe 64bit client, performance issues have also improved a lot. True - they aren't perfect and could be better but they are definitely moving in the right direction.

If you are getting 'pawned' in PvP then practice until you don't. I used to get destroyed in PvP but now I'm much much better. Practicve and effort is where it's at :)

That is the first time i heard performance issues were moving in the right direction. My direct experience is its getting worse.

Practice up?. Yes i suppose everyone needs practice. Except the players flying across Cyrodill. Or the people spamming unlimited ultimate metors. Wait the blatant cheaters got banned?, but some got let back to play?. Good joke mate.

So, umm, why are you still here if you hate the game so much?

    Let's explain it this way:

Many of us are still here even though we hate the current state of the game because we desperately want the game to be better. We love the game so much, and see so much potential, that we want the game to be fixed. Because if they can fix the most glaring issues, the game will be untouchable.

It's like when you love another person, yet there are problems. You don't just dump that person at the first, second, or even umpteenth sight of trouble. You try to work through it. You hope they pull their head out of their ass and make an effort to change. Now yes, we too could change our expectations. But many of us feel certain issues need to be fixed on their end, not ours.

This is not necessary a response to you, @Baranthus , but every person who poses the same question.

We LOVE this game and don't want to just walk away. It's too good at it's core to just leave. But it's relatively unplayable at the moment.
