After playing on what seemed to be a very promising patch for ESO, I really felt compelled to offer feedback to the director in charge of the QC process for console versions. It appears glaringly obvious that either one of two things happened with the team in charge of QC on console. Either 1., son one actually booted up the game in console and actually attempted to play it with simulated server traffic, or 2., they did, and were too scared to point out that it was virtually unplayable, instead opting to say something to the affect of "looks great boss, smooth as silk, no issues here, you are a genius!". Either of which seems to be a very serious problem in this part of the organization. It seems unfathomable that any reasonable human being could log on to this game in it's current state on console and not notice just how horribly it performs. There are random load screens from merely walking around, let alone actually engaging in combat. There are entire groups of mobs that are completely invisible and just start beating the crap out of you. Button presses are unresponsive or severely delayed. The group finder does not work. Blue screen crashes for no apparent reason. The audio is choppy or cuts out completely. There are more bugs that are more intricate, but these issues that I listed are basic core game functions.
Now, to my point, there is no way that you can look us in the digital eye and tell us that this console patch was thoroughly QCed before launch. In fact, you could not convince this community that the console patch was even basically QCed under load before launch. The reason for this is the fact that the basic functions of the game do not work. A person that is completely unfamiliar with the game can point this out. I tested it. My roommate has never played the game, but was appalled with how horribly choppy and unresponsive the game is. It is very apparent that the leadership has either failed to hold their team accountable for their job, or created a hostile work environment that discourages pointing out obvious issues in house. This was pointed out in TG, as it started then, but has not only been ignored, but has been allowed to fester, culminating into a patch that just doesn't work. You have folks that can't even complete their writs for christ sakes. How do you expect a dungeon or trial to perform? I know this is a negative post. I hate the fact that I feel that I have to write it. The patch overall looks like it could be fantastic. But until the basic game functions, your efforts on the skills, the art, and the story are completely overshadowed. I challenge you to take a step back and have a bit of introspective on how well you and your team is performing it's job. I challenge you to ask yourself how you would react if your internet service, or television service was performing this way, after you have pointed out several months ago that something was not right and it was starting to slow down and get laggy, just to come home and finding it behaving like 1996 technology. You, Sir/Ma'am, would certainly feel inclined to reach out to the folks in charge and ask them to have some introspective on their job responsibilities as well. So we don't want an excuse, or even an apology. We want you to fix the product that we have all payed for and have been actively involved in trying to help make better. So lets get some real quality control going, and get some real feedback to the development team, and get it fixed. We understand that there is a lot of noise about barbers, and houses, and naming pets (pets that certainly contribute to the problem with the performance), but let that not divert your attention from the basic gameplay mechanics like walking through town without load screening.
Thanks for your time, we hope to see some more focused efforts on quality control for console in the future.
