Templar or NB for Sucky Player?

Hey folks,

I suck at TESO. I haven't played it much, but I've played enough to know that I have trouble in solo PvE. I'm old and slow. I need a character that has a simple rotation and doesn't have to dodge much...Maybe block instead?

Anyway, people have suggested that I try a Templar and NB. Honestly, NB sounds more interesting if I can pull it off, especially with the new rogue content. What do you guys think? Is there a simple, easy, stationary NB build I can play? Or should I just go Templar?

Thanks for any opinions!

    Don't have a rotation.

Switch skills and tactics based on circumstance.

-What weapon or weapons do you prefer?
-with those weapons, do you plan to use weapon skills?

    -what armor do you prefer?

-Are you willing to use weapon swap for melee range and swap to be ranged based on circumstance?

-How do you prefer to stay alive? Healing plans?

I don't have enough experience to pick a weapon type, I guess. Whatever allows me to block, if you can do that as a NB.

    Any armor is fine.

I don't want to have to swap weapons constantly, I guess, but some swapping is OK.

    I don't know how I'd heal.

I'm pretty much a noob who wants to give the game another chance because I love TES series!

    Ok
-any weapon can block. The effectiveness of blocking changes based on different weapon types so obviously a shield is best but there as also shields as in spells.

NB can block or shield but a DK has the most class shields

If u don't want to weapon swap....which is fine, you'll want to figure out how to play with 5 skills and 1 ultimate.
U can also use two different weapons that are the same

Then ull have an option to swap between 10 skills at the press of one button

So....Id say just go play and don't rush, just enjoy the game, the scenery and experiences until you figure out what you don't like....build around that

OK, thanks a bunch! Can a NB even block with dual daggers? Can they use a 2H sword? I'm just thinking of making them as much like a traditional rogue as possible. How can they heal?

I'm mediocre at best, but am very happy with my Templar. Every so often I'll roll out of the way of something...now, what's this about "block"?

On a more serious note, you could always use a resto staff as a backup weapon - that would offer a few healing options. I believe (but don't know for sure...haven't done anything with my NB), there are heal over time options.

That's part of the problem, I'm absolutely terrible at dodging. I can't get away with just blocking?

Red circles unfortunately can't be blocked, and if you stand in one your options are take severe damage/death or dodge roll out of the way.

In PVE non dungeons you wont have to worry about this as much.

Have you thought of like a highly tanky jacked up on HP Dragon Knight with sword and shield???

That would make you pretty sturdy and able to take damage/hits well without having to move around too much.

Or a tanky Templar if you must. Go Orc or another Health boosting race to aid you in staying alive without moving.

You basically should aim at becoming a mountain of resolve that ain't nothing gonna strike down.

Magicka Templar, easiest solo PvE class to play. Only class with a skill line dedicated to healing and multiple damage abilities that heal you.

You can get through a large majority of content using just 5 skills and 1 ultimate: Puncturing Sweep, Ritual of Retribution, Honor the Dead, Channeled Focus, Radiant Glory, and Crescent Sweep.

Chuck on a Valkyn Skoria monster set for extra DPS.

Ideally you want more than that, but for simplicity all those skills and ultimate should do the trick.

Agree with this ^^^^. I have a NB that can do awesome damage, but very squishy. Takes a lot more work to stay alive against multiple mobs. My templar, on the other hand, does good damage and has much more survivability. It certainly is my easiest character to play. Can you say "Jesus beam"? ;)

I'd be tempted to go with a heavy armour templar build- 5heavy 2 light, sword and shield and dual wield
5 Kagrenacs Hope/ 5 julianos with either 4 transmutation or seducer or something similar, make a couple of bits sturdy, and put 27 points in shadow ward champion point, some in blessed and some in quick recovery. Use the Atronach mundus, and a combination or spell damage and regen glyphs on jewellery.
Keep your rune focus down and use punturing sweeps for main dps, spear shards to cc and interupt ranged adds and do a bit of extra aoe damage, breath of life/ honor the dead for oh crap moments, reflective light for a nice dot and snaring ranged attack, and stick radiant glory on your back bar dual swords for a good finisher for tough adds/bosses that heals you while channeling, also get Repentance on at least one bar for the regens and free stamina and heal from corpses.
Wont be the highest dps but you'll be really tanky, can just jabjabjab away while moving out of the red, (if you even need too) try to block big telegraphed hits like uppercuts but it's no biggie if you don't you'll survive being cc'd in heavy.

Templar is IMO the easiest class to level and play in solo PvE (and is flexible enough to be specced at higher levels for PvP and high end PvE dungeon/trials content).

Benefits of playing a templar include a class-based self-heal - which is an utterly invaluable panic button whilst you learn to play the game. Also the class is effective with some early acquired skills that you don't have to wait to unlock - the first active skill in each class skill line will serve you well whilst leveling, and sweeps/jabs will still be one of your go-to damage spam skills even when you are at max level.

For what it's worth @Gromgok I feel your pain.

ESO was and is my first MMO. I've been at it for over 2 years, and I'm still learning every day.

    So to my advice...

Give them both a try and see which one works best for you. I have to say that I learned the most about how to be more successful in ESO from playing my first NB. They pack one helluva punch, but I learned quickly that mobility is your friend. This lesson alone made my life much easier with all of the characters I play. My play-style is mostly "bull in a china closet", so it took me a while to learn to avoid unnecessary hits.

As for Templars, well my main is a Stamplar and by far my favorite. As others have said, they have a really nice mix of skills that you can unlock early, and that will serve you well even at end game.

Just give them both a try and see which one works best for you.
    But most importantly...have fun ;)
