One hit kills

Zambonie
Zambonie
I play a healing Templar in cloth. I usually do really well in solo content and group content. However, I am finding some elite level mobs being a bit overpowered to us. I understand some are not meant to be soloed, but being hit once and dying is a little much. This really wasn't a problem until I was around level 25+. Even mobs I am 2-3 levels higher than still can wreck me in 1 hit.

An example I see is Zymel Etitan at Pelda Tarn in Greenshade. Being heals, I can pull aggro by casting one heal spell, and he automatically turns to me and one shots me. I even passed back by when I was 3 levels higher and same thing occurred.

To note, it's not every hit that's a 1-shot, but I would say on those specific mobs, it's like a 1 in 3 chance of happening. I know they're tailored for duo/group kills, but it just feels like the RNG of their attacks is ridiculous.

I have invested some points into Health as well, so I am not 100% focused on the magic stat.
I am referring to regular attacks and not their "red" skill shots.

Guess my question really is.. does anyone else find this true? Maybe some suggestions on what to do?

Funny you should say that. I was leveling a Sorcerer and was less than impressed with his survivability. I was only L12 at the time but was thinking of dropping him al together.
Then a light went off over my head... I looked at my gear that was equipped.

I had, like, 4 pieces of level 4 gear on and it was wore down to nothing. I chalk it up to " full steam a head" style of game play.

Needless to say I keep better track of it now.

Light armor sucks under level 50 for templar, just use heavy/medium armor until you hit 50. I doubt you even have the passives yet to really make use of light armor anyways.

I use medium armor myself and have had zero survivability issues myself - that said some world bosses hit much harder than others. So if you're not getting stomped otherwise, it might just be that one boss.

Wear a mix of light and heavy armor - that's what I do on my heavy-magicka-use characters.

As a lvl 44 sorcerer now I will agree the elite mobs hit quite hard. With that being said they are far from unkillable solo. I'm in all light armor so when I get hit it hurts quite a bit, therefore I don't get hit. Using my summons i'm able to keep him kited and aggroed on them, if one dies I have a passive that gives me mana back so I can simply resummon it. If the boss turns on me I kite him out until my pets grab aggro back and I can go back to putting down the dps. This tends to be harder with multiple group elites (such as the hag's camp). Although I was still able to pull only 2 of the 3 mobs and kill them then go back and take down the third. Still think of an elite mob of the same lvl to actually be 3-5 lvls higher than you in difficulty. I enjoy a challenge so quite enjoy getting in really tough situations that i'm not sure I can make it out on top or not. I played a templar in heavy armor in beta and wasn't able to come anywhere close to soloing the same bosses I have as a Sorcerer though.

I had no idea this was an issue, since I roll around in 5/2 heavy to medium. I guess that makes me rethink going light armor on certain classes.

As a VR1 sorcerer let me just say; don't let them get close. There is a reason we have a ton of "Get away from me!" spells. Light armour really REALLY isn't that good to mitigate damage, I guess the clothing isn't that strong.

So ask yourself, does your spells require you to get up close and personal? Then go with heavy or medium armour. The more you're expected to get hit, the more armour you need.

I actually tried to solo Zymel Etitan in Greenshade yesterday. So, wearing medium armor, fully repaired, using bow, level 28.

I got killed in about 3 hits. You can't kite this one - he's immune to CC, you can't knock him back, you can't snare him, and when he gets close to you, it's 1-2-KO.

Whether this is intended or not I have no idea, but right now Zymel is not soloable unless you outlevel him massively. So if it's just him, you're not alone. ;)
As I mentioned, not all world bosses are the same. Some are pushovers, others will kill you outright, and some others will just outlast you.

P.S. I do think there might be bugs in their damage output. The kind of damage they put out would kill any tank out there fast. And then he'd proceed to murder the rest of the group. Maybe the challenge is to drop him fast, before he has the time to kill everyone. :)

Im also a Light armored Templar healer and I dont have the problem you have. What Im guessing is you have focused to much on Magicka and to little on Health. I spent my attributes 60/40 focusing on health and all health glyphs. Im vr1 and I have 2069 HP. With my spec I have been able to soloed everything that is soloable including a few Public dungeons (Village of the Lost and Lion's Den)

I am currently a level 12 2Hander Dragonknight and I wear heavy armor for chest and shoulders and medium for the other 5 slots. The only time I have died is once on Doshia, and a handful of times where I just suck get myself killed. Light armor is the problem it sounds like, atleast in the early goings.

This really isn't a problem I have run into, either, as a Cloth wearing Templar. Using Resto Staff/SnB with block mitigation passives, any hits I take from larger beasties rarely do much at all; Granted it does take some running around, weapon swapping, and reflexes to swap back and forth for mitigation/healing purposes.

The thing with this particular boss (Zymel Etitan in Greenshade), is that he kills you with 2-3 normal attacks. He's lvl 25 or so, I was 28, medium armor, health buffed by food and character points, and I went down like a log. He hits extremely hard, and there is no windup or any indicators that he's charging up for a big hit.

Please, don't complain that you're doing group content and getting owned solo. The last thing this game needs is to be made easier, I've decided to try to shoot straight up to VR content because this game is so easy...

It's feeling like it's all WoW numbers already, except since it's not about numbers unless I have a mob of 5+ that are each 2-4 lvls above me, I find it irritatingly easy to run through this game.

I've yet to be attacked by any of these "powerful" monsters that I had to use the group finding tool to "call for help." Even the Skull and Swords group areas are easily soloable.

Who is complaining? I'm just saying that certain skull-and-swords bosses hit a lot harder than some people think and that it is not always an issue of busted armor or blocking hits. You sound like one, do try to "easily solo" that Greenshade boss I mentioned. Let me know how it went. :p

Screw this boss. 8k damage backhands to the face and nothing stops him. I wasted a good five or so soul gems on reattempts using different skills to no avail. Fed up with bashing my head against walls so now its back to questing.

How about asking in zone chat if anyone wants to join for this boss or give a hand, this is MMO after all...
And believe me 2 years ago every mob in this game was hitting harder and it was suicide to tackle world bosses solo, now everything has been nerfed to the ground already so please don't complain that there's any bit of challenge left in this game yet.

    Just my 2cents worth.
I am a level 29 Sorcerer, I where 1 heavy ( chest ) / 1 medium ( feet ) / 5 light ( all the rest ). The reason I choose Chest for heavy is it had the highest armour value, feet for medium it is one of the second highest value. Also the one passive ( don't remember which one ) says if you equip 5 or more light armour, that why.
One more reason is so that I earn points in each armour line ( just in case ).
