Hey everyone, I was wondering what your opinion was on a mage being a part of the dark brotherhood? Have you seen it? Is it realistic considering many of the attacks seem to come from sneak? (however, a kill is a kill I suppose)
I dont think I've ever seen one and if thats the case then I would have to play DB on a different character that fits its RP.
a mage attack takes them completely out of stealth and removes the whole "sneak and kill" aspect of the DB I suppose?
So you're saying a mage has lost the use of his hands and cannot use the blade of woe to get a 1-shot kill from stealth, same as any other class. Roger that. I'll make sure my Sorc gets the memo, but it might come a bit late considering he's already got all but 3 of the DB achievements.
Dark Brotherhood Assassins are not all stealthy, big face punchy Nords and Werewolves don't steal up. The brotherhood kills quite or loud as long as the soul goes to Sithis how it gets there is not important.

As others have stated the dark brotherhood is not 100% sneaky "slit their throats while they sleep" types. Ever since you were able to join them in an ES game (I believe it was Oblivion, I KNOW Morrowind had mages in their too, but you could not actually BE dark brotherhood) there has always been a full spectrum of assassins.
Oblivion had an Orc that flat out stated he doesn't mind losing bonuses because he likes to say something "scary" to his target before he slays them (much hilarity ensues), as well as a khajit that sold a bunch of really nice spells.
As stated Skyrim had a cranky old mage who talked of his explosive exploits as well as two werewolves and a small girl.
I personally think of the dark brotherhood as a guild of murders then straight up assassins although as it is a "less than legal" enterprise many clients prefer fewer questions asked and this the cliche assassin build is preferred/viewed, but other times the clients often want to make a point in which case the berserker would probably be a wonderful addition to the roster.

Nord: You my mark?
Target: Um... what?
Nord: *smashes his face in*
Target: x.x
Nord: Done. Where's my pay?

No problem at all! Glad you liked it! Always loved the elder scrolls series since I started it back in Morrowind (looking the previous ones as well) and have played through them all ever since, and particularly like when they include "outliers" in their guilds as they are often the most characterful in my eyes, and a major reason I enjoy the series (more shades than just mage vs fighter).
Heck I am an Orc sorcerer tank with the Pact, so I'm all for not falling in a single mold, so good for you for sticking it out!
Nightblades may have an big advantage for all the sneaky stuff. Even the sneak and backstab stuff. But that's all there is to it - an advantage, nothing more... any other class can get there too with a bit of effort (and in a pinch, with a big stack of invisibility potions).
So if you want to be a sorcerous assassin, go ahead!
(Sadly, there is no ranged "curse of woe" though... )
