In the E3 Matt Firor vidoe thing it said 7 Million players and growing. Does that mean 7 Million active players that are playing or just 7 Million copies sold?

Nope, just copies sold, or more likely, accounts created. It doesn't mean 7 million are playing now, but 7 million paying people have logged on on 7 million different accounts since launch, free access (beta, weekends, etc..) not included. Since they're taking into account everyone since launch, of course the figure can only be growing.

I don't know if that's a lot, or not, in the MMO world. I guess it's a lot, otherwise it wouldn't have mentioned it.

I have to say, I'm surprised it's so low!

I thought they would of sold more copies as it's across 3 platforms.

Would of been interesting to see how many actually still play!

Yeah, that's what surprised me. I thought 7 Million seemed really low, especially when you see games selling 50 Million copies in the first week and such.

Steam statistics on this game are not very relevant. I have a steam copy but dont launch it from steam so I dont have much playtime on my steam account. It doesnt even show when Im in game for some reason.

I'm surprised it's so much. With all those bugs and lags and cheats and bots haunting ESO since launch...

Funny thing is I still remember things like "ESO sells so bad, that's why they had to drop the sub model...

Over 3 platforms and since two and a quarter years 7 million players have logged into ESO having created an account and registered their game with ZoS. That is not the same as 7 million players ever having played this game at any given time.

I'm not concerned as to how this info is collated or announced: as long as it is honest but it is good to see ESO thriving. It is good for all of us, player and dev alike, and bodes well for the future.

Bots alone bought three million copies in the first six months. Two million players bought ESO when it has been on sale for $12. That leaves two million suckers, of which I am one.

Many players have 2 or more accounts. I'm one of those. So 7 million accounts sure ain't 7 million humans.

Not sure why anyone would want a 2nd account (besides more character slots, or different platforms ? ) but no matter what your reasons are, I am ready to bet that this is negligibly marginal.

Besides... for ZOS financially, it doesn't matter if accounts are owned by different people, or by the same people.
It does matter when it comes to ingame population (you can't possibly play on two systems AT ONCE) but again, I bet this is completely marginal. Not "many players".

7 mill is sad number. They havent even gotten their money back yet. If ESO cost 200mill like most people think. Triple A MMORPG are dead? This is perfect example of why I think they are dead and devs are never going to invest so much money anymore. Bye bye games like SWTOR or ESO.

Well, accounts created does not mean all would have paid for those - there was this free trial weekend last year - and I guess all those accounts count as well.

All I care is that in every zone as AD i travel to, there are lots of people running about, and from what I tell, AD is the least popular alliance so it must be even more so in the other factions.

What else they can be if not sold? There isnt trials, or even invite-friend-thing, you cant create account unless you buy the game.

WoW is sub-based and has around 5-6 million subscribing (active). Although they lost 800,000 in three months last year. Just to show how crazy MMO numbers are and how much they can change. ESO isn't sub-based so 7 million accounts created or copies sold isn't very high as far as sales go :/

I think accounts created since launch, he never said active players, plus there are other factors they never bring up, like how many players online at the same, how long you stay logged on, so we will never know how many concurrent players they have. But 7 million client sales still nice.

With all those sales and people playing, not much of that money seems to be coming back into the game, guess the CEO is enjoying a nice bonus..

7 Mil game purchases is great, however your thoughts are correct. If they do not stay with the game it does not add to continuing revenue. It would be interesting to know how many subs exist and how many DLCs have been purchased. That would provide a clearer picture of the strength of the game.

    Lmao.

    Purchasing the game
    Optional Subscribing
    Crown store cosmetic item purchases
    DLC purchases

If each copy of ESO costed $20 then the sales of the game would alone make 140mil. Baring in mind a lot of people paid a lot more than that, I'm pretty sure the remaining ways for them to get income would make up that other 60mil.

Assuming that's actually how much the game costed to make and maintain until this day which I see no figures to back it up.

We all know that isnt true, they have a team working on the game what cost money, retailers takes like 30% etc. Theres lots of expenses.

2 year later they have might to break even, thats the best I can say.

I have multiple accounts, too. I can log into more than one at the same time using two computers that are next to each other, but it is not possible for me to do anything interesting with them simultaneously. I use them simultaneously for testing addons, mine and others, and generally seeing how multiplayer parts of the game work, story oriented screen shots, and stuff like that, so it is acceptable for one to be standing there playing the lute while I do something on the other. Outside of that, they are independent accounts that are 'friends'.

I have an account that was transfered over to PS4 and I play both PC and PS4 on that account. I wonder if that counted twice.
