Should ZoS Revamp Old Zones?

 Panda_iMunch

With ZoS making more and more elaborate and detailed zones and areas, the old one's have been left to the past and really haven't been given a whole lot of love. Seeing as the game needs to have a good solid foundation to really keep it self going, it would not be a bad idea to give some love to the old zones. This could take the form of new quests, more detailed and unique environments, improved clutter, and so forth. With that, I ask: Should ZoS revamp old areas?

No need generally, but Craglorn is a separate case and should be revamped to reflect the fact that people no longer go there for grouped adventuring.

I know it's not needed per say, but I think it would really help this game live on to the future as well as give something new to do. You can't really expect a good outcome putting your old foot first. On a different note, I think they said they had something speical for Craglorn in the future.

It never hurts to keep the base game updated and ZOS has done that in the past . They changed the intro quest . Giving players a reason to go back with a new race or class is even better . I'm always for maintaining an entire game and not forgetting old areas .

I think they should revamp the old zones. Or rather they should revamp the level 50 versions of the old zones to reflect the impact of our battle with Molag Bal and allow for cross-faction play in the revamped zones (PvE only).

Just add lvl scaling feature like in DLC zones (and revamp Craglorn). No need new quest or more detailed areas (it is a ton of work , which simply do not need to deal with , so the old zone is quite interesting as they are now).

If heavy revamps were made for existing zones, I would have no issues with it as long as a new class+ one or more other Major features (spellcrafting, barbershop, etc) arrived too.

This would happen instead of a new zone arriving for one quarter.

No problem I could possibly imagine with making all of those zones more awesome!

I don't think it should require a new class or race. Some window dressing and a few changes in the landscape, maybe a new delve or dungeon opened in some of the ruins though would be good. Players do start new characters from scratch and now just fly through leveling as fast as they can; a change to encourage reacquainting themselves with the area would be a good thing. It could be gradual and maybe even unannounced beyond a hint in patch notes much like the improved animations and more detailed, better coloured clothing on NPCs. Just last night I went back to the Harborage in Vulkhel Guard and ran down the beach to the outlaw refuge and noticed that the crabs are finally running flat on the ground after forever being tilted.

Yes but only for the Cadwells gold and silver quests so that you aren't doing the same quests you'd be doing if you created characters in those factions. You'd quest in the same zones, but with different quests. I think that would help make the initial play through feel unique without limiting players to only one faction zone should they choose to play just one character.

Perhaps ZOS could consider adopting Bethesda's radiant questing for Cadwell's gold and silver thus insuring a unique experience each time.

      You know what bothers me?

They add some pretty cool new animals, but they don't add them to zones where it would make a lot of sense for them to be. Like Nixads, who could inhabit forests in other maps, or Dire Wolves, who could show up sometimes in areas where normal wolves are.

I would also like to see downscalling being introduced to the low level areas of the game, though I think I'm in the minority here. It is the one thing I miss from GW2, because then all the areas of the map kept being relevant to high level players. This way, ANet could add new stuff to older areas and high level players could enjoy it without one-shooting everything or making a new character.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

      Meet my characters:
      Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

I think the better solution is to add new content at all levels of the game, rather than just at the endgame (which is the only time it curently makes sense to do the various DLCs notwithstanding the scaling as otherwise you simply out-level the base game more than is already the case) so players have a choice of content, rather than simple revamping the original content which still leaves a single fixed line of progression per alliance.

I wish open world combat got revamped after completion. Then got extremely hard and required a friend or friends to go complete a daily quest. Many MMO's i used to play had open world like "hardcore" area's where you would have very hard enemys to kill and a big boss that would spawn after awhile when you killed there. These places were the best to grind but in the end were fun since the battle's were long and not short.

I'd like to see daily's bring me around the map of tamriel to fight difficult enemy's that are open world.

      No.

First it is working. Let us not push our luck.

Second, how long did it take them to do the tiny area of The Gold Coast? You want them spending that much time revamping the giant area of the original game?

      Third the end.

Of course they should always add more to all aspects to the game with the added benefit to allow for more choice. What I'm trying to elude to is that ZoS should work on the old zones to make them like proper end game content. As of now, the faction zones, which make up most of the content in the game as is, are a little underwhelming and easy to move beyond. So maybe they should allow for scaling of some kind in both directions as well as flush it out more to grip new and old players into the world. That can only help new players want to play the game more as well as give incentives to old players to go back.

It's revamping, which is a lot less time consuming than coming up with a new plot, land mass, quests, gear, item sets, voice acting, animations and so on. They just use what they learned to patch up old areas to the new standard they've made

I'd be fine with simply making everything battle leveled, so you can do any content regardless of level. I mean, in single player TES games it was still fun to go on the quests regardless of level. Now? Well, with power creep and level differences, it doesn't feel like enough of a challenge to offer any real satisfaction.

No I've seen this before. It sounds good but in reality:

      - it takes valuable dev time away from new content
      - it can allow devs to pronounce new development whilst actually not delivering much
      - it inevitavly introduces the easymode creep into original great content.

Keep old stuff sacred its the archive of great content.

On the other hand, end game is lacking a lot.
