Japan ESO Server for players from SE Asia, Asia and Oceania

@ZOS_JessicaFolsom , @ZOS_MattFiror ,

We've been hearing news that ESO will have a server based in Japan starting July 2016. Will this be exclusive for the Japan market only, or will players closer to that region be able to migrate as what has similarly been done on the EU servers ?

Players from Asia, SE Asia, Oceania have been wanting to experience the game with ping rate(s) closer to those experienced by our NA and EU friends. If this can happen, I'm sure many players from regions closer to Japan will return and even more will subscribe to the game. We too, dream of a day where we can enjoy the game without being at the mercy of high ping and ability delays (more than what is experienced by our NA and EU friends, due to the long distance of the servers).

Thank you and hope we can have some clarity on the topic. Wish you a pleasant week ahead and please convey our best wishes for everyone at ZOS.

I'm from Philippines and still have 240+ ping on Japan (based on DotA 2) so it would just make a very small difference would it? The delay is still there. Singapore would be good.

I believe Singapore is a bit of a long shot at the moment.

Reason I asked clarification on Japan server is because Zenimax is already working together with a Japanese company to release ESO this July 2016 (based on previous schedule for launch) with the server infrastructure based in Japan.

I need to confirm average ping for players in general from Philippines to Japan but I am getting on average 80-110 ping using Speedtest.net to Tokyo from Jakarta, Indonesia. Oceanic players (Australia and NZ) should hopefully be getting similar results. Players from Singapore and Malaysia could get slightly better results, since they have better (more modern) network infrastructure.

IMHO, even at 170 - 190 consistent ping, I believe ESO would be much more playable and responsive as opposed to current 300 or 400+ ping during PVP.

Really ? Please correct me if I am mistaken but that applies to friends based in Victoria (Melbourne) or NSW (Sydney), whereas friends from Perth may have faster connection if server was based in Japan ?

Its interesting to know that Australian players use separate undersea cables depending on which part you live.

Aussie player here currently in NA, Im more concerned about the Japan server population, as our weekday nights the zone is pretty much empty, guilds usually have 30-40/500 online (US peak times there were around 150). So will this dilute the population even further?

    why would that be?
I cannot disagree with them having a server.
Hell, each country should have one.
Except Tamriel, they are too weird, them folks.

I am currently on a year in India, and I get like 300-350 ping in general. In Japan, that should be like 120. But my issue is that, would there be a steady population?
  • TrueNord47
yeah the better ping is all well and good but im worried how populated it would be espcially on the xbone. no way im starting again as well lol.

I'm in Melbourne... I'd LOVE a server a bit closer to home. Honestly. ESPECIALLY if the maintenance times were while I'm sleeping instead of straight after dinner. -____________-

No idea what my PING is but it can't be good when the only option for internet is ADSL2+.

Cool! 80-120 is fine maybe I was just lagging that I had 240+ before. My question is the same as others, the population. Don't want to play by myself.

There is a cultural reason for a Japan-only ESO server.

By Japanese standards, mainstream western culture is considered to be very loud and impolite. IMO, the majority of Japanese gamers would prefer not to play with the rest of us. A Japanese-only server would be considered a feature there.

I base this on the opinions of my RL Japanese friends and former in-laws--two of whom worked for major Japanese game developers.

After all this time playing with >270 (at best) ping, I wouldn't know what to do with a lower one. I must admit it would be nice to be able to reliably block in time though, perhaps I could get use to it... :)

Most all of my friends are in the USA as a result of playing on their severs though, so even if there was an option for an oceanic one, I would not use it.

Melbourne here as well! maintenance wasn't really an issue for me as ill just go and do something else, and usually they happen at 10-11pm unless major updates anyway. Only issue for me is unable to find people online during weekday nights and sometimes had to spam zone chat for 5 mins just to pug a dps :(

Ping from melb to japan for most games averages around the same to west coast usa so the only real advantage you would have is if your esl and speak japanese.

10-11pm...? Nope, almost ALWAYS 8pm until 10-ish. Or like about a month ago, until after 11pm. Wouldn't be so bad if it started at 10pm.
Probably I should thank ZOS for getting me to bed early xD

The major benefit (on PS4 EU server, anyway) was that Cyrodiil was almost totally dead mid-afternoon Melbourne time, which allowed me to go do PvE quests, skyshards and dolmens in peace. \o/

I live in Perth have always found it faster to connect to the U.S than Japan which is still half a world away and we have a cable running direct to the U.S from Aust. I get 300-350 ping to the U.S but had even worse in the past with Asian connections.

Consider yourself lucky you don't live in W.A 2 hrs behind means servers are quite often not up till 1am on a big update.

In Melbourne here, on PS4 NA, but if I ping ESO from my PC it is 300+ all the time (sometimes even timing out) but less than 30 for general speed tests and other sites. I do not think the internet is the issue here so server location would probably not matter.

More suitable maintenance times on a regional server might be good, for 6 months of the year it starts at 8pm which is just when you are about right to settle in for a few hours.

To the Aussies saying the ping will be better, it won't be. Speedtest from Gold Coast to a Tokyo-based node yields 228ms latency. From the same location to a node based in Dallas, TX yields 194ms.

We've been hearing news that ESO will have a server based in Japan starting July 2016. Will this be exclusive for the Japan market only, or will players closer to that region be able to migrate as what has similarly been done on the EU servers ?

Based on the community input and from other news sources, I think for now we can safely discount the possibility of the ESO Japan server being open to the public outside Japan.

    i play from Indonesia...

but tbh...i dunno man, the better ping seems a very good offer for less lag while playing, BUT it also means that i need to say goodbye to my friends and guildies on NA server, and also japan population probably not as good as NA since its not centrilize and not many people in SEA region playing B2P MMO game (AFAIK , SEA thrive with F2P MMO)
