Suggestion: drop the "Snake Blood" passive, add "Dissection" to Alchemy

With the new poison updates we have new reagents and oils that absolutely suck to farm. The drop rate for some of these from mob kills or collection nodes is about 1 in 8, which takes longer than a good gather rotation for plants. On top of that, there are really no passives like keen eye to help you along.

So, rather than arbitrarily upping all the drop rates, let's replace an under used passive, like "Snake blood", and create a new passive called "Dissection". The passive could have one of two options:

1. When collecting materials form living/unliving beings, double the drop rate when successfully getting an alchemy ingredient.
2. When collecting materials form living/unliving beings, increase the chance for an alchemy ingredient to drop by 10/20/30/40% (4 points spendable)

This would make farming a lot easier on those of us who spent the time to get the skill in alchemy while not exploding the farming across the entire server. This also would change a rather under used passive into something a lot of players would be willing to invest in.

Bonus/side suggestion: also considered a passive called "recycler", which would up the chance for oils and reagents if the target had an active poison on them when they died. That would likely not be used for farming though, unless you were getting rid of trash poisons.

I agree with this. As it stands the passive is useless.

Quite frankly I'd be happy with ANY passive that replace snakeblood. :) So +1 from me!

Curious question for you alchemists out there, is there ANY potion in the new patch that could be a benefit with the snake blood passive? I sure haven't seen one.

I get a pretty decent rate of drops of the Poison Oils, but I am also not making any poisons right now so I have no usage to drive demand. I think if I was going to make poisons I might want more drops.

While I am in favor of doing anything useful with Snakeblood as it is a passive that I never invest points into, I am not sure if over all, making Oils drop like candy is good for the game. Something like this should be rare.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

They mentioned replacing it on ESO live, but didn't get around to it yet. Those are good suggestions for replacements. Anything would probably be better than the current passive.

Aside from nightshade and mudcrab bits, I haven't had too many issues gathering alchemy mats.

Just a couple of quick comments
    • Alchemy does have a Keen Eye: Reagents passive to help find the reagents.
    • To be consistent with the other professions, a likely replacement would be Hireling as ZOS could reuse the code and just update the loot table / rules.

For the amount you use them I feel oil drops might be low. Buy even if we were only increasing the reagent collection rate I think it would be useful but not game breaking. This would be for: butterfly wings, corpse fly larva (from both corpse fly clouds & zombies), mud crab chitin, beatle scuttle, scrib jelly, torch bug thorax, and spider eggs

I haven't tested it since PTS, but keen eye I don't remember seeing it help see butterfly, corpse flies, or torchbugs. And it of course wouldn't help identify monster drops. I didn't see anything with this passive helping with drop rates either, but it could be my mistake glossing over that if someone wants to correct me.

I believe what @HeroOfNone is saying is that Keen Eye doesn't help you get thoraxes and lavae and gall and such. (Though it does help with Nightshade.)

Keen Eye doesn't help with leather drops when you kill animals either, so it's consistent that it doesn't help with butterfly drops.

I have kind of liked that there is no hireling for Alchemy, even though it means I sell fewer ingredients and have to farm more. Alchemy is usually the only craft that I choose the keen eye skill. It means there is a craft I use differently, ingredients and potions are rarer and more valuable, and I have to work to make stuff instead of just being given all the parts every day.

I wouldn't mind if Snakeblood was changed to a gathering bonus that was similar to the CP gathering bonus (forget the name) and equivalent to the other crafts' decon bonus. Or possibly a decon skill so I have a use for all those white alchemy potions I collect from drops.
