will it ever be possible? maybe through a sum of gold? the heart of elder scrolls is making any character and having it have it's own destiny. if i'm a wood elf that feels that i should help the covenant win the war why shouldn't i be allowed to do that?

Then you create a Wood Elf character that's in the Covenant.

....you don't have the Any Race/Any Alliance edition of the game, huh.

I would love this, although I doubt an in-game feature would be enough to persuade them, it'd need to be a crowns purchase - one I'd happily make.

And I in fact DO have the 'any race, any alliance' feature, I simply do not want to start from scratch - levelling, gathering achievements, researching traits etc when all I really need is to move my Imperial from one faction to another. After all if I've done Silver and Gold, I've adventured through them and saved them all anyway, so where's the harm?

the harm is ZoS is trying to find ways to make money off our inconvenience.

Not so much 'harm' as a refusal to pay for something that's usually a paid-for service in other mmos too. Personally I'd rather we were still sub-only and all services were included in that, but the masses weren't prepared to outlay small and regular amounts of cash, hence the new system. The playerbase only has itself to blame there, same with the current trend towards micro-transactions in most new mmos.

Besides, when I asked 'where's the harm?' I meant in the mechanic itself being introduced rather than the payment method. But whatever, I'm happy for it to be in-game gold, but I can't see that being an incentive.

It could have some kind of PvP implications I can't think of cause I'm tired. But the option would need to be restricted to once in a long while as to keep the Alliance War balanced. There are a lot of rich players out there now and if you could do this simply with gold it'd be pretty sucky to have people switching sides over and over again.

But honestly this is just yet another check box on the "I Want" list people have for this game, and the list only ever gets bigger.

i would price it at an exuberant amount of gold, only allow it once per month per character, and add a quest to it to prove your loyalty to whatever faction you're joining to keep it lore friendly.

this is much less just an "i want" thing for the game, (it is that a little though), and much more of how ES in general has always been about player choices and every character/race being an individual with their own stories and aspirations regardless of race, and there should be no restrictions for any race. having restrictions like this just doesn't feel right in an elder scrolls game.

Personally I'd say that's all the more reason to put it in the crown store - to stop regular abuse. I'd happily lay down £10 or £20 to do it once.
