I played my sorc in Cyrodiil for 2 hours last night and had a blast. Some of you AD fed me quite a few AP at Sej, actually.

I think maybe the problem is not that sorcs are "broken" so much as your preferred, shield-dependant builds are LESS EFFECTIVE. Harness magicka is the only shield I have on either bar now and even then, it's generally a waste of time. Magicka builds are weaker overall now, I do think. But I was STILL able to land some combos that other classes just can't time.

So sorcs aren't gods of the field anymore. But they are far from broken. For a patch that's been out for what? 48 hours --ish, it certainly shows a lack of effort to test previously "unconventional" builds.

I bet anyone a dollar that sorcs will be right back up in the yup damage dealers as soon as people figure out how to land combos quickly.

A lot of us are talking PvE, yes. Not that PvP haven't been affected by @Wrobel 's ridiculous notions on balancing.

In PvE we are the worse class in every role. We are the lowest Magicka DPS, lowest Stamina DPS, weakest tanks (serious, @Wrobel thinks we can built crit based tanks lol), worse healers (yay, so many toggles we can't actually slot all the skills a healer needs) and the worse group utility...

Sorcerer is way too overnerfed. 6 seconds hardened ward is not alright. Annulment at least received a compensation for this nerf, confured ward received nothing. It's very expensive for what it does (in my opinion) Unlike other shields, it has no secondary effect.

I think, bolt escape's penalty should be reduced to 2 seconds instead of 4 seconds, hardened ward should last 10 seconds and Conjured ward in general should buff pet damage by 25% or give some sort of bonus. Or simply reduce the cost of ward.

Empowered ward is no option. It is much smaller and doesn't even possibly last 10 seconds, neither does the decreased cost bring anything. Because you need to recast this shield even more often than hardened ward.
I like it, when ZoS attempts to make both morphs of a skill appealing. However in this case, it simply doesn't work

Check out builds by people like Nos (lol forgot his full name, been reading it as just "Nos" for so long). He's got some unconventional builds that may provide insight for interested players.

I actually checked Nos's DoT based build. It is pretty interesting specially as it uses a lightning staff which benefits from our passsives. Unfortunately that build only achieves high DPS against mobs, in a solo boss fight I believe it can only reach about 30K DPS and that is assuming the sorcerer manages to to maintain their ground targeted DoTs 100% of the time, which is not always possible.

Considering other classes can maintain sustained DPS over 40k reaching up to 50-55 k at times while bringing more group utility than sorcerers can provide with their current kit, you can't say sorcerers are competitive in PvE.

Surge is useless now, tried it on the PTS, not worth the slot to use, fury is the worst execute in the game, Overload is the most boring ultimate in the game and you get better results by slotting meteor. Hurricane is stam so can't say anything about that, but the magicka version is useless if we got to stand and hug the enemies for it to work.

And it is true that his build are predominantly pve (i think). But they got me thinking in better directions for this patch.

But, there again, I pretty much only like pvp. So...

Welcome magicka sorcs to a stam sorcs life. Funny thing is, youre still better off. And Ive been dumping on plenty of the population as a stam sorc through the worst of patches. Give it more than a day or two before signing your /quit notices perhaps.

When your all out, go setup your Sorc with a non shield dependent build. It's been a whole 2 days since the DLC came out. Every class pretty much has to reconsider one thing or another with this DLC. Get back up on your horse and get back in the battle. If not, good luck in your other game.

This thread is pretty funny. A lot of the people complaining about Sorcerers I'm assuming were only using the class to stack shields and use Overload. But, Sorcerers are far more deeper than that. And any "true" Sorcerer will tell you this. Granted the class feels overall much weaker now, and I'll probably main my Magicka Dragonknight... I still crush with my Sorcerer. Even more ironic, a pet build Sorcerer. It's hilarious to see FOTM Stamina Dragonknights and Nightblades run for their lives from a familiar and twilight, while getting merked-on via Crushing Shocks, C-Frags, and Overload light attacks.

I actually think Nos's build is great. unfortunately it relies on having at least more than one enemy to achieve high DPS. Its single target potential is pretty low...

Sorcs are at least using 2 shields in PvP, 3 if they want to. And that's chewed through by most players in a matter of seconds. One shield on it's own is like 1 attack with hardened ward sitting at 11-12k in PvP.

I have mained a Sorc since Beta. Dark Elf destro / fire build. Currently all in magicka points & gear chants. Nothing in health or stam. I don't use shields or wards or floor targeted spells, build is pure offense except degeneration to restore hp and as a dot.

Reading these posts has me very worried. Should I bench her & start levelling my NB (lvl 23) instead? I don't do group content but I don't want to get kicked out of every group if I decide to try group content at some point.

It is sad, but even in the horrible state they are in, magicka sorcerers are still better than stamina sorcerers.

Not that it matters much though, both stamina and magicka sorcerers are pretty useless... Low damage, almost no survivability, toggles, ridiculously rigid builds, near to no group utility... Yeah, class is in a great place.
