@Taisynn sounds like a waste of time if noone commented about you in the thread. I haven't used the @ with a name before but it makes sense. What if you didn't put an address a mail person to deliver to? Chances are you will not get that mail because they don't know where to deliver.
Well, one thing's for sure. Something that seems to be a REALLY simple common courtesy is apparently "too much effort" for some people.
*shakes head* Oh well, so much for that.
I do agree with @Epona222 & @Vigarr that it should be an "Notify me when someone quotes me" should be in notification preferences, just like "Notify me when someone mentions me" ( the @ notification) is.
Those who don't like to be notified when someone tags them has a notification they can turn off, those of us who don't want to wade through pages of text to see if we were possibly quoted do not have any recourse, unless we want to wade through pages of text.
So I guess that's what can be taken away from this. We need a "Notify me when I am quoted" option!

@Gidorick - it's not so much about courtesy, it's more about the fact that since most message boards actually do notify you when someone quotes your post, therefore people won't remember to tag someone also - the forum should kind of be doing that for us, and although I did it this time, I guarantee there will be plenty of times when I forget to do it - I just want to reply to a post and don't necessarily remember that I need to be doing something additional on top of that to alert the person that I have replied to them - it's a step that is not necessary across pretty much the rest of the internet, so I won't always think to do it.
Same. I tag people only when I want to call them to topic they haven't posted in, but I know they would be interested in or can offer valuable insight.I've never tagged anyone, I've always assumed that if they're interested in the replies to their post they'll read the topic. They certainly seem to have no problem responding to my comments! I also have my own notifications disabled, they're of no interest to me as I routinely follow the topics I'm interested in anyway. I think notifications are over-rated.

We wouldn't even have this problem if the forum notified us when someone quotes our posts, like every other forum in existence. But looking at Bethesda's new official forum, they clearly can't be bothered with proper forum design, so whatever.

The problem though @Rosveen , is that we doesn't have the quoted notification preference. To me, when someone replies to me specifically by quoting me, but they don't tag me... it's like they are trying to slyly have the "last word" on the topic.
It's kind of rude...

It isn't remotely that. I'm sure I've failed to tag you when replying over the last couple of years, and it isn't because of rudeness or slyness, it's because I don't see the point in using a feature that is unnecessary given that if you're interested in both the topic and any replies to your post within it then you will be following it, and if you're not interested then why should I bother you with a notification?
I'm sure I'm not the only one who disables all notifications on the basis that I decided within a week or so of joining the forum that all the notifications were fast becoming a pain and one that I could very happily do without. If some are so attention-seeking or self-important that it offends them if people refer to their posts without notifying them then tough, that's not an attitude that concerns me.

You're right that not everyone is trying to be devious... I don't think that. However, it can come across that way and if you are commenting on a topic, especially if your comment is contrary to the post you are quoting, the poster should have the courtesy to let the person know they responded.
Asking for this is not attention seeking self importance @Tandor , it's wanting to keep the conversation going. One cannot do that if they are unaware that the conversation has continued. Some threads move too fast to honestly expect people to go back to their previous post to see if anyone commented on what they had to say.
There have been many times I've commented on a thread, I go away and come back to there being 10+ pages added to the thread. I usually skim a couple of page or so after my comment but it would just be easier if people would tag. This is honestly me asking for a modicum of courtesy from the community in the absence of a quote notification feature. Don't worry though, I get the message that many of you have sent: This is too much to ask of you and you can't be bothered to extend this courtesy. Ok... got it.

Nope, it's nothing to do with courtesy. If you're interested in a topic, you'll read it. If you're only interested in your own comments and whether anyone has replied to them then you're not interested in the topic, only in yourself.
If you want to lobby ZOS to provide a notification whenever your posts are quoted then fine, but don't expect the other posters to do it just in order to save you time in not having to read posts that don't relate to your comments.
Besides, how can you seriously continue to post on a topic if the only posts you follow are your own and the replies thereto?

So if you post on a thread @Tandor , go to bed, go to work then you come home and that thread has 15 more pages, you'll read over single one of those pages?
That's unrealistic to expect someone to do. I'm sorry. Especially when typing @ and a name is so very easy.
And now I have six notifications, half of them from Tandor who wasn't even talking to me. It's spam, not courtesy.Same. This. This. This. It's annoying when we get quoted and the comment isn't directed at us.
@Gidorick I'll tag YOU because it's your preference, but if you would be more polite in your request instead of being snappy rude to people who don't want to, more people would like it.
This is pretty quick. If you're responding in a thread to anyone other than the OP, please use the @ symbol to tag the person you are responding to. If you don't, the person might never know you responded to them.
So please use the @ tag (like... @Gidorick ) to tag the person who wrote the post you're responding to so the conversation can continue. Unless you're trying to sneakily have the last word in the conversation... in that case, don't use the @ tag.
General Rule: If you quote someone, tag them!

I never said I wanted people to do this just for me. It's a general courtesy for everyone. It's a practice that can be annoying, as has been demonstrated.
