Please use the @ to tag others!

This is pretty quick. If you're responding in a thread to anyone other than the OP, please use the @ symbol to tag the person you are responding to. If you don't, the person might never know you responded to them.

So please use the @ tag (like... @Gidorick ) to tag the person who wrote the post you're responding to so the conversation can continue. Unless you're trying to sneakily have the last word in the conversation... in that case, don't use the @ tag.

General Rule: If you quote someone, tag them!

I would assume that Jessica Folsom (or someone else) is going to get forwarded Gina tags... of course you know what assuming does @WhiteCoatSyndrome ? That's right! It makes an Assu out of me!

LOL @runs... that is annoying, but not nearly as annoying as finding out pages later that someone responded to your post and you missed it.

@Runs: This is why I try to put tags in an easy-to-cut-off place. Also avoid quoting text with tags in it if you don't need to.

Please don't. I absolutely HATE it when I get a notification I've been mentioned when it's really just some guy quoting something I had been mentioned in the past Incredibly annoying.

Nope @TheUrbanWizard , the closest we have is

"Notify me when people comment on discussions I've participated in. " but then it notifies you of EVERY post in EVERY thread you've posted in.

I've never tagged anyone, I've always assumed that if they're interested in the replies to their post they'll read the topic. They certainly seem to have no problem responding to my comments! I also have my own notifications disabled, they're of no interest to me as I routinely follow the topics I'm interested in anyway. I think notifications are over-rated.

Also expanding on this point, don't just invent some short hand nickname when you use the @ link

Because one, you won't be notifying that person and two, you might be pinging a user that happens to have that name and they won't know what's goug on.

No disrespect, but this forum is a bit rubbish in some ways, and doesn't offer features that are commonplace on other message boards.

I ought to be able to:

-quickly see which threads I have posted on by looking at the icon to the left of the thread title, on most other boards the icon itself will in some way change to indicate whether you have posted on a thread

-be able to specify more precisely the sorts of things that I want to receive notifications about - such as "notify me if someone quoted my post".

If I respond to a thread, I usually go back and read all the responses throughout the day. I go back to it and find where I was quoted. It's as simple as that.

As it should be...what's the point in quoting someone if it doesn't notify them? In the official Bethsoft forums it notifies you if someone quoted you.
